Before you cn ccess your orgniztion, vcloud Director system dministrtor must crete the orgniztion, ssign it resources, nd provide the URL to ccess the tennt portl. Ech orgniztion includes one or more orgniztion dministrtors, who finishes setting up the orgniztion y dding memers nd setting policies nd preferences. After the orgniztion is set up, non-dministrtor users cn log in to crete, use, nd mnge virtul mchines nd vapps. Orgniztions An orgniztion is unit of dministrtion for collection of users, groups, nd computing resources. Users uthenticte t the orgniztion level, supplying credentils estlished y n orgniztion dministrtor when the user ws creted or imported. System dministrtors crete nd provision orgniztions, while orgniztion dministrtors mnge orgniztion users, groups, nd ctlogs. Users nd Groups An orgniztion cn contin n ritrry numer of users nd groups. Users cn e creted loclly y the orgniztion dministrtor or imported from directory service such s LDAP. Groups must e imported from the directory service. Virtul dtcenters provide n environment where virtul systems cn e stored, deployed, nd operted. They lso provide storge for virtul CD nd DVD medi. An orgniztion cn hve multiple virtul dtcenters. Orgniztion Virtul Dtcenter Networks An orgniztion virtul dtcenter network is contined within vcloud Director orgniztion virtul dtcenter nd is ville to ll the vapps in the orgniztion. An orgniztion virtul dtcenter network llows vapps within n orgniztion to communicte with ech other. An orgniztion virtul dtcenter network cn e connected to n externl network or isolted nd internl to the orgniztion. Only system dministrtors cn crete orgniztion virtul dtcenter networks, ut orgniztion dministrtors cn mnge orgniztion virtul dtcenter networks, including the network services they provide. vapp Networks A vapp network is contined within vapp nd llows virtul mchines in the vapp to communicte with ech other. You cn connect vapp network to n orgniztion virtul dtcenter network to llow the vapp to communicte with other vapps in the orgniztion nd outside of the orgniztion, if the orgniztion virtul dtcenter network is connected to n externl network. Ctlogs Orgniztions use ctlogs to store vapp templtes nd medi files. The memers of n orgniztion tht hve ccess to ctlog cn use the ctlog's vapp templtes nd medi files to crete their own vapps. Orgniztions dministrtors cn copy items from pulic ctlogs to their orgniztion ctlog. Access vcloud Director We Console In this relese, the tennt portl does not provide ll the fetures ville in the vcloud Director we console. The tennt portl llows you to open the we console in order to esily ccess these fetures. Fetures ville only in the vcloud Director We Console include: Ctlogs. You cn edit nd dd ctlogs from the vcloud Director We Console. Templtes. You cn edit nd dd templtes from the vcloud Director We Console. vapp Cretion. The Aility to crete vapps is not ville in the tennt portl. You cn edit properties of the vapp, ut you must use the vcloud Director We Console to dd virtul mchines. User nd Role Mngement is only ville in the vcloud Director We Console. Viewing nd modifying of Orgniztion VDCs is only ville in the vcloud Director We Console. 1 Go to Compute > Virtul Mchines, or go to Compute > vapps. 2 Click see this pge in the vcloud Director We Console. 11 Chpter 1 Getting Strted with the vcloud Director Tennt Portl Accessing Multiple Sites The vcloud Director multisite feture enles service provider or other institutionl owner of multiple, geogrphiclly-distriuted vcloud Director instlltions (server groups) to mnge nd monitor those instlltions nd their orgniztions s single entities. If your environment is configured to ccess multiple sites, you cn ccess the sites from your tennt portl environment. The tennt portl must hve een configured to ccess multiple sites. For more informtion out creting multiple site environment, see Chpter 6, Working with Multiple Sites, on pge From the upper-right menu in tennt portl, click the multisite icon ( ). Aville sites disply. 2 Select the site you wnt to ccess. You now hve ccess to the selected site. To return to the previous site, repet the steps, selecting the site you wnt to view. View Tsks From the tennt portl, you cn view recent tsks nd their sttus. The tsks view is good wy to view the sttus of tsks in your tennt portl t glnce. The view shows when the tsks were executed, nd whether they were successful. This tool cn e good first step for trouleshooting ny issues in your environment. u From the upper-right menu, select the Tsks icon ( ). Virtul mchines cn e stndlone, or they cn exist within vapp. A vapp is compound oject composed of one or more virtul mchines s well s one or more networks. The following figure shows the different options when creting virtul mchine. You cn crete stndlone virtul mchine. In this cse, the virtul mchine is directly connected the orgniztion VDC. Or, you cn crete virtul mchine within vapp. Ceting virtul mchine inside of vapp llows you to group together multiple virtul mchines nd their ssocited networks. vapps llow you to uild complex pplictions, nd sve them for future use in ctlog. The virtul mchines must hve een creted y the Administrtor. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute. 2 Select the Virtul Mchines t. 3 Choose whether you wnt to view virtul mchines in vapps or stndlone VMs. In the Look in field, select All VMs, Stndlone VMs, or VMs in vapps. The grid editor icon displys elow the list of c Select the elements you wnt to include in the grid view y clicking the checkox next to the element, such s hrdwre, version, etc. Click OK when you re stisfied. The grid displys the elements you selected for ech virtul mchine. 6 (Optionl) From the grid view, use the list r ( ) to disply the ctions you cn tke for ech virtul mchine; for exmple, you cn shut down virtul mchine. The list r displys to the left of ech virtul mchine. 7 To ccess the interfce for the virtul mchine's guest operting system, click the interfce icon in the upper right corner of the crd view: Crete New Stndlone Virtul Mchine You cn crete new stndlone virtul mchine. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the Virtul Mchines t. 3 Click Crete VM. 4 Enter the following vlues. Option Nme Virtul Dtcenter Type Power on Enter nme for the virtul mchine. Select the virtul dtcenter to ssocite with the virtul mchine. Enter meningful description. Select New or From Templte. If you select From Templte, you cn select templte for given operting system from the Ctlog. If you select New, you cn configure custom settings. The VM utomticlly powers up once it is creted. 5 If you chose to crete the virtul mchine from templte, select the pproprite templte from the Templtes ctlog. VMwre, Inc. 15

The suspend nd resume feture is useful when you wnt to sve the current stte of your virtul mchine nd continue work lter from the sme stte. A virtul mchine tht is powered on. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine you wnt to suspend. 3 From the Power menu, select Suspend. The virtul mchine is suspended, ut its stte is preserved. Shut Down Guest Operting System Powering off guest operting system is the equivlent of powering off physicl mchine. The guest operting system is powered on. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine where you wnt to shut down the guest OS. 3 From the Power menu, select Shut Down Guest OS. The guest OS is shut down. Power Off Virtul Mchine Powering off virtul mchine is the equivlent of powering off physicl mchine. A virtul mchine tht is powered on. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine you wnt to power off. 3 From the Power menu, select Power Off. 17 Chpter 2 Working with Virtul Mchines Power On Virtul Mchine Powering on virtul mchine is the equivlent of powering on physicl mchine. You cnnot power on virtul mchine tht hs guest customiztion enled unless the virtul mchine hs current version of VMwre Tools instlled. A virtul mchine is powered off. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine you wnt to strt. 3 From the Power menu, select Power On. A powered-on virtul mchine displys Powered on sttus in green. Power On nd Force Recustomiztion of Virtul Mchine You cn power on virtul mchine nd force recustomiztion t the sme time. The virtul mchine must e powered off. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine you wnt to power on nd customize. 3 From the Power menu, select Power On nd Force Recustomiztion. The virtul mchine is recustomized nd powered on. Reset Virtul Mchine Resetting virtul mchine clers stte (memory, cche, nd so on), ut the virtul mchine continue to run. Resetting virtul mchine is the equivlent of pushing the reset utton on physicl mchine. It initites hrd reset of the operting system without chnging the power stte of the virtul mchine. Your vapp is strted nd virtul mchine is powered on. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine you wnt to reset. 3 From the Power menu, select Reset. The stte clers for the virtul mchine. VMwre, Inc. 17

18 vcloud Director Tennt Portl Guide Discrd the Suspended Stte of Virtul Mchine If you hve virtul mchine in suspended stte nd you no longer need to resume use of the mchine, you cn discrd the suspended stte. Discrding the suspended stte removes the sved memory nd returns the mchines to powered off stte. A virtul mchine tht is suspended. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine for which you would like to discrd the stte. 3 Click More > Discrd suspended stte. The stte is discrded. Upgrde the Virtul Hrdwre Version for Virtul Mchine You cn upgrde the virtul hrdwre version for virtul mchine. Higher virtul hrdwre versions support more fetures. Verify tht the virtul mchine is powered off nd tht it hs the ltest version of VMwre Tools instlled. The set of virtul hrdwre versions to which you cn upgrde VM depends on the host on which the VM is deployed. See the vcloud Director Relese Notes for the list of virtul hrdwre versions supported y this relese. You cnnot downgrde the hrdwre version of virtul mchine. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine you wnt to upgrde. 3 From the More menu, select Upgrde Virtul Hrdwre Version. 4 Click OK. The virtul mchine is upgrded to the ltest version. Instll VMwre Tools in Virtul Mchine vcloud Director depends on VMwre Tools to customize the guest OS. A virtul mchine must e powered on to instll VMwre Tools. If your newly creted virtul mchine hs no guest operting system, you must instll it efore you cn instll VMwre Tools. If the version of VMwre Tools is erlier thn 7299 in virtul mchine in your vapp, you must upgrde it. Guest customiztion must e disled prior to instlling VMwre tools. 18 VMwre, Inc.

19 Chpter 2 Working with Virtul Mchines 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine where you wnt to instll VMwre tools. 3 From the More menu, select Instll VMwre Tools. VMwre tools re instlled on the trget guest operting system. If there is n error during instlltion, n error messge displys. You cn lso view the Tsks window to see when the instlltion completes. 4 Nvigte to the commnd line interfce for your operting system y going to Compute > Virtul Mchines, nd clicking the icon for the guest operting system commnd line interfce on the crd view: The interfce for the VM operting system opens. 5 Follow the instructions on the VMwre Knowledge Bse Article to configure the VMwre Tools for your prticulr operting system. VMwre tools re instlled on the guest operting system. Insert Medi You cn insert medi, such s CD/DVD imges from ctlogs to use in virtul mchine guest operting system. You cn instll operting systems, pplictions, drivers, nd so on. You hve ccess to ctlog with medi files. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine where you wnt to dd medi. 3 From the More menu, select Insert Medi. 4 From the Insert CD menu, select the medi to insert into the virtul mchine. Eject Medi After you hve finished using CD or DVD in your virtul mchine you cn eject it. You hve ccess to ctlog with medi files. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine where you wnt to dd medi. VMwre, Inc. 19

20 vcloud Director Tennt Portl Guide 3 From the More menu, select Eject Medi. The medi file is ejected. Delete Virtul Mchine You cn delete virtul mchine from your orgniztion. Your virtul mchine must e powered off. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine you wnt to delete. 3 From the More menu, select Delete. The virtul mchine is deleted. Work with Snpshots Creting Snpshot preserves the stte nd dt of virtul mchine t specific point in time. A snpshot is not intended to e used for long periods of time or in plce of cking up the virtul mchine. You might wnt to use snpshot when upgrding the operting system of virtul mchine. For exmple, efore you upgrde the virtul mchine you crete snpshot to preserve the point in time efore the upgrde. If there re no issues during the upgrde, you cn choose to remove the snpshot, which will commit the chnges you mde during the upgrde. However, if you encountered n issue, you cn revert the snpshot, which will move ck to your sved virtul mchine stte prior to the upgrde. Crete Snpshot of Virtul Mchine You cn tke snpshot of virtul mchine. After you tke the snpshot, you cn revert ll the virtul mchines to the most recent snpshot, or remove the snpshot. Verify tht the virtul mchine is not connected to n independent disk. Note Snpshots do not cpture NIC configurtions. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine for which you wnt to crete snpshot. 3 From the More menu, select Crete Snpshot. The snpshot llows you to revert ll your virtul mchines to the most recent snpshot. Revert Virtul Mchine to Snpshot You cn revert virtul mchine to the stte it ws in when the snpshot ws creted. Verify tht the virtul mchine hs snpshot. 20 VMwre, Inc.

21 Chpter 2 Working with Virtul Mchines 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > Virtul Mchines. 2 Select the virtul mchine you wnt to revert to snpshot. 3 From the More menu, select Revert to Snpshot. 4 Click Yes. When the memory limit is unlimited, the mount of memory configured for the virtul mchine when it ws creted ecomes its effective limit in most cses. In most cses, it is not necessry to specify limit. You might wste idle resources if you specify limit. The system does not llow virtul mchine to use more resources thn the limit, even when the system is underutilized nd idle resources re ville. Work with Snpshots Creting snpshot preserves the stte nd dt of the virtul mchines within vapp t specific point in time. A snpshot is not intended to e used for long periods of time or in plce of cking up the vapp. You might wnt to use snpshot when upgrding the virtul mchines in vapp. For exmple, efore you upgrde the virtul mchines, you crete snpshot to preserve the point in time efore the upgrde. To do this, you sve snpshot prior to upgrding, nd then perform the upgrde. If there re no issues during the upgrde, you cn choose to remove the snpshot, which will commit the chnges you mde during the upgrde. However, if you encountered n issue, you cn revert the snpshot, which will move ck to your sved vapp stte prior to the upgrde. Crete Snpshot of vapp You cn tke snpshot of ll the virtul mchines in vapp. After you tke the snpshots, you cn revert ll virtul mchines in the vapp to the most recent snpshot, or remove ll snpshots. vapp snpshots hve the following limittions. These settings re useful if you need to strt nd stop your virtul mchines in prticulr order. For exmple, one virtul mchine houses dtse server, nother houses n ppliction server, nd the lst houses we server. In order for the relted functions to work properly, the dtse server must strt first, the ppliction server must strt second, nd the we server must strt lst. Verify tht the vapp is powered off. 1 From the Nvigtor, select Compute > vapps. 2 Select the vapp you wnt to edit, nd click Detils nd nvigte to the vapp dvnced properties. 3 Set the following vlues for ech virtul mchine, nd click Sve. Option Strt order Strt ction Strt wit Enter the order in which you wnt the virtul mchine to strt. Enter vlue for ech mchine in the sequence. Enter the strt ction you wnt to use when strting the mchine. The defult ction is Power on. Enter the strt wit time.
