1 Data Sheet Cisc Smart Sftware Manager satellite Last Updated: May 12, 2017 Overview Cisc Smart Sftware Manager satellite is a cmpnent f Cisc Smart Licensing. It wrks in cnjunctin with Cisc Smart Sftware Manager t intelligently manage custmer prduct licenses, prviding near-real-time visibility and reprting f Cisc licenses custmers purchase and cnsume. In a typical scenari, custmers are able t view their installed base frm the clud-based Cisc Smart Sftware Manager using a highly secure Internet cnnectin, prtected by varius levels f user authrizatin and encrypted passwrds. Hwever, fr security-sensitive custmers wh d nt want t manage their installed base with a direct Internet cnnectin, Smart Licensing prvides Smart Sftware Manager satellite sftware, which resides n custmer premises. Devices r sftware prducts self-register and reprt license cnsumptin t the Smart Sftware Manager satellite as thugh it were a replicate f the Cisc Smart Sftware Manager. The satellite versin f Smart Licensing cntains a subset f Cisc Smart Sftware Manager functinality and must cmmunicate with the latter peridically t perate. Custmers need t synchrnize their lcal databases with the Cisc prtal t make sure that the mst recent purchases are reflected in their lcal cpies. This can be autmatically r manually initiated. The autmatically scheduled synchrnizatins can be daily, weekly, r mnthly, and, depending n the frequency, the data n the satellite can be as current as the prtal n a daily basis. On the ther hand, the manual synchrnizatin invlves a file transfer at least nce a mnth and represents an air gap fr high-security custmers. During nrmal peratins, the smart-enabled prducts register with Smart Sftware Manager satellite and reprt license cnsumptin. Peridic synchrnizatins with Cisc Smart Sftware Manager, enables Smart Sftware Manager satellite t reflect the mst recent license entitlement and usage. Smart Sftware Manager satellite is supprted with Chrme 32.0 and later versins, Firefx 25.0 and later versins, and Safari and later versins. Smart Licensing requires prducts t be assciated with Smart Accunts, which can be created n Cisc Sftware Central. A Smart Accunt is assciated with a unique cmpany ID and is like an nline banking accunt cntaining Cisc entitlements and devices fr that custmer. Frm the Cisc Smart Sftware Manager, subaccunts (als called virtual accunts) can be created t represent varius subdivisins r buying centers f the cmpany. 3 Smart Licensing benefits: Licenses are nt nde-lcked t devices, which can enable licenses t be n cmpatible devices withut rehsting prduct activatin keys (PAKs). Licenses can be pled within the entire cmpany, allwing them t be reused acrss rganizatinal bundaries. Mney can be saved by knwing what is being used cmpared t entitlement. Time can be saved since licenses can be transferred acrss the cmpany withut pening supprt cases, therefre simplifying the return merchandise apprval (RMA) prcess. Set up synchrnizatin schedules: After the satellite has been registered with the backend prtal, yu can synchrnize what licenses are being used via HTTPS, cmpared t what has been purchased with Smart Sftware Manager. Manage users: As an administratr, yu can create r delete users wh have access t the Smart Sftware Manager satellite.
