Answer all questions and provide the information in the tables that follow. Once completed, the questionnaire to the project lead. See Cloud Edition order information for project lead name and contact information. This chapter contains the following: VPN (Virtual Private Network) information 9 Storage area network information 12 Switch Fibre Channel information 13 Local Area Network information 15 Customer-provided host 16 EMC Secure Remote Support (ESRS) 17 Miscellaneous information 20 Customer contact information 21 Chapter 3: Questionnaire for customer site requirements 8
VPN (Virtual Private Network) information VPN questions VMAX Cloud Edition requires a VPN connection between EMC and the customer data center. Provide the following information: Does the customer have existing IPSEC VPN connectivity with EMC Managed Services data centers? If No: See "VPN parameters" on page 10. Y N (Add any relevant details.) What is the physical location (City/Country) of the VPN endpoint you will be using to terminate your end of the VPN tunnel? Will the customer be willing to configure a secondary VPN peer with EMC to support EMC disaster recovery (DR) operations? Y N (Add any relevant details.) If VPN DR is not in place, in the event of a DR scenario, provisioning will be unavailable until service at the primary site is restored and functional. Will disaster recovery VPN failover be automatic or manual? Automatic Manual (Add any relevant details.) Is there any additional information that would be helpful for EMC to know? 9 EMC Symmetrix VMAX Cloud Edition Pre-installation Customer Questionnaire
VPN parameters Figure 1: VMAX Cloud Edition network diagram Provide the customer VPN configuration parameters listed in Table 1 and Table 2. The VPN primary and disaster recovery peer IP addresses (indicated below) are determined based on the location of the client data center. If VPN disaster recovery is not in place, in the event of a VPN failover, provisioning will be unavailable until the primary site is restored and functional. 12 Storage area network information SAN questions A Fibre Channel SAN is required to physically connect the Cloud Edition Appliance servers to the EMC Symmetrix VMAX Cloud Edition array; therefore, EMC will need a dual fabric. The customer is responsible for all Fibre Channel cables. Provide the following information. How many fabrics and ports are available for the VMAX Cloud Edition solution? Be aware that 16 ports are required per VMAX engine. What types of switches do you currently use (vendor/model/firmware)? Who is the SAN administrator (in-house or third party)? Are dedicated free ports available for the customer s hosts? See "Switch Fibre Channel information" on page 13. Yes No (Add any relevant details.) Storage area network information 12
Switch Fibre Channel information Switch configuration Complete as much information as possible in the tables below. For automated collection purposes on Brocade switches, the login provided to EMC Symmetrix VMAX Cloud Edition must have the "chassis role" allocated to it. EMC Symmetrix VMAX Cloud Edition requires independent logins with administrator access to all Fiber Channel switches in the configuration. This allows VMAX Cloud Edition to perform automated zoning using its own unique username. Provide the following information for Switch 1 and Switch 2. Table 3: Switch 1 configuration information Switch 1 name/serial number Switch 1 IP address Switch 1 login (username/password) Switch 1 WWN Switch 1 active zoneset name Table 4: Switch 2 configuration information Switch 2 name/serial number Switch 2 IP address Switch 2 login (username/password) Switch 2 WWN Switch 2 active zoneset Enter any additional information that may be helpful for EMC to know below. 13 EMC Symmetrix VMAX Cloud Edition Pre-installation Customer Questionnaire
Figure 2: Ethernet and Fibre Channel map of VMAX, appliances and switches Figure 2 depicts the Fiber Channel and Ethernet connections required for VMAX Cloud Edition. The connections provide redundant paths for High Availability. The Cloud Edition Appliance requires network access to the SAN switches to perform automated zoning operations. In addition to the Fibre Channel connections shown, which are for control paths, additional Fibre Channel connections (16 per VMAX engine) are required between the array and SAN switch for data path connectivity. The Automation Engine VM and the Collector VM also require SSH access to the SAN switches. Switch Fibre Channel information 14
Local Area Network information LAN connections Network addresses EMC requires Ethernet connectivity to the EMC Symmetrix VMAX Cloud Edition array through the ESRS gateway. The VMAX Cloud Edition Automation Appliance requires VPN connectivity to the EMC Data Center, and connectivity to the Ethernet management ports of the SAN fabric. A total of five ports (two for each appliance server and one for the array) are required; the customer must supply the five Ethernet cables. In addition, eight IP addresses within the same VLAN are required. At this time, it is required that the Appliance servers Host 1 and Host 2 Ethernet connections are on the same subnet. Provide the switch port numbers for the following connections. Provide the following network information. Table 5: Network address configuration IP Range Netmask Gateway DNS Enter any additional information that may be helpful for EMC to know below. 15 EMC Symmetrix VMAX Cloud Edition Pre-installation Customer Questionnaire
Customer-provided host Host information The customer must supply one host that can be used to test and validate the storage provisioning through the portal. All other customer hosts can be added by the customer to the configuration, at a later date, through the portal. Provide the following information for the test host. Table 6: Test host information Friendly name WWNs Operating system IP addresses Provide the following IP addresses. 17 EMC Secure Remote Support (ESRS) ESRS questions ESRS connectivity is required for EMC Symmetrix VMAX Cloud Edition dial home and monitoring. Refer to for more information on the ESRS feature. You may also refer to the ESRS Deployment Guide found in the Symmetrix VMAX Cloud Edition Customer Service Procedure Generator. Tech Note has full customer-viewable information on ESRS. You may also contact your local EMC representative for additional information. Customers are required to supply a Windows or Red Hat Linux server or virtual machine for Gateway software. Existing ESRS Gateway customers must upgrade to xx, which is required for deployment and service of EMC Symmetrix VMAX Cloud Edition. Provide the following information. Is ESRS service set up within the customer data center? Yes No (Add any relevant details.) Are there any restrictions on implementing an ESRS connection? Provide the current ESRS serial number and IP addresses. Is the ESRS Gateway in a cluster? If yes, provide the cluster serial number and IP address. Is there an ESRS policy manager configured? If yes, provide the IP address. Is there any additional information that would be helpful for EMC to know? 17 EMC Symmetrix VMAX Cloud Edition Pre-installation Customer Questionnaire
