1 How to use the Wireless LAN to RS-232 Adapter to control the instrument. Louis Wu May. 29, Purpose: When a user wishes to control the products of Chroma without the Ethernet support, besides the ADAM-4571 (the Ethernet to RS-232 Adapter) provided before, the wireless EKI-1351 is also applicable for use. It means if the user s PC has wireless network, the communication can be treated as using the COM Port to control Chroma s instrument when connecting the Wireless LAN to EKI The existing Softpanel can also be used for control. The following text explains the detail of this solution. 2. Contents: Here is the introduction of Wireless LAN to RS-232 Adapter (EKI-1351 from Advantech.) It is an adapter to convert the wireless network to RS-232, which means the user can connect the PC s wireless network to EKI-1351 and then to the RS-232 port of instrument as the figure shown below. This Adapter will simulate a COM port on the PC site for the user to control. Since the control is through the network, the remote instrument can be controlled as long as the connection is within the EKI-1351 range. CHROMA ATE INC. Working On The Better Solution 1/9

Step 2: Turn on the wireless network and select WLAN for connection.

2 Step 1: First, install the Serial Device Server Configuration Utility on the CD. Power on EKI-1351 and turn the switch on the right to Diag. Step 2: Turn on the wireless network and select WLAN for connection. Since the PC is connected to EKI-1351 directly without going through to internet, an IP Address is required to give to the PC manually. Select Use the following IP Address and set the IP Address,

4 Step 3: Execute the installed Serial Device Server Configuration Utility. Click EKI-1351 and set the network setting of WLAN 1. The figure below shows the factory default. CHROMA ATE INC. Working On The Better Solution 4/9

Address. When done, click Apply to change the setting.

5 As the EKI-1351 and the PC have to be in the network domain, the setting of Subnet Mask and Default Gateway should be the same as the PC except the IP Address. Step 7: When the system mapping is done, a new COM1 (varied with the setting done previously) will appear under Virtual Com Ports as the figure shown below, which means the device is simulated as

Step 8: Since the device is already simulated as COM1 in Step 7, it can select RS-232 interface in the Chroma 62000P Softpanel startup screen. 3. Conclusion: For the requirements to control the instrument via Ethernet, regardless of supporting the Ethernet or not, as long as the instrument has RS-232-C interface, the Adapter of wireless LAN
