1 Avaya Solution & Interoperability Test Lab Application Notes for Novell Identity Manager with Avaya Aura Communication Manager - Issue 1.0 Abstract These Application Notes describe the procedures for configuring Novell Identity Manager to interoperate with Avaya Aura Communication Manager. Novell Identity Manager combines enterprise-wide identity management, meta-directory, roles-based provisioning, access control, password management and self-service functionality to deliver the most comprehensive identity management offering on the market. These capabilities help companies efficiently manage identities and resources according to policy, while simultaneously improving productivity, mitigating risk, reducing administration costs and supporting regulatory compliance efforts. Novell Identity Manager integrates directly to Communication Manager System Access Terminal (SAT) using telnet. Information in these Application Notes has been obtained through DevConnect compliance testing and additional technical discussions. Testing was conducted via the DevConnect Program at the Avaya Solution and Interoperability Test Lab. 1 of 22

2 1. Introduction These Application Notes describe the compliance tested configuration used to validate Novell Identity Manager with Avaya Aura Communication Manager. Novell Identity Manager helps organizations efficiently manage identities and resources according to business processes and policies. Through capabilities such as provisioning, synchronization, delegated administration and user self-service, Identity Manager improves efficiency, mitigates risk, reduces costs and supports regulatory compliance efforts. The Identity Manager Driver for Avaya PBX allows Identity Manager to centrally manage the extensions on Communication Manager through work orders. The driver connects to the Communication Manager System Access Terminal (SAT) via telnet at a specified interval to perform the work orders. Novell Identity Manager currently supports Avaya digital and analog telephones Interoperability Compliance Testing The interoperability compliance test included feature and serviceability testing. The feature testing evaluated the ability of Novell Identity Manager to perform work orders such as installing and removing extensions, disabling and enabling of extensions, moving of extensions, changing the Class of Restriction (COR) and user information on the extensions. In addition, the ability of Novell Identity Manager to synchronize changes to the extensions done from Communication Manager was also validated. The serviceability testing introduced failure scenarios to see if Novell Identity Manager is able to resume service after failure recovery and system reboots Support Request for technical support on Identity Manager can be obtained by visiting Novell s support website at: 2 of 22

3 2. Reference Configuration Figure 1 illustrates the test configuration used to verify Novell Identity Manager interoperability with Communication Manager. It consists of a Communication Manager system running on an Avaya S8300 Server with an Avaya G450 Media Gateway. A second Communication Manager system runs on an Avaya S8300 Server with an Avaya G700 Media Gateway. Both systems have Avaya digital and analog telephones configured for making and receiving calls. Novell Identity Manager was installed on a server running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 with Service Pack 2. All the systems are connected using an Avaya C364T-PWR Converged Stackable Switch for network connectivity. Figure 1: Test Configuration 3 of 22

5 4. Configure Communication Manager This section describes the steps needed to configure Communication Manager to interoperate with Novell Identity Manager. This includes creating a login account and assigning it with the required permissions for Identity Manager to access Communication Manager, and creating stations to be used as templates for Novell Identity Manager to install new extensions Configure Login Create a login account for Novell Identity Manager to access the Communication Manager SAT. Step Description 1. Using a web browser, enter address of Avaya Server> to connect to the Avaya Server being configured and log in using appropriate credentials. 5 of 22

6 Step Description 2. Click Administration Server (Maintenance). This will open up the Server Administration Interface that will allow the user to complete the configuration process. 6 of 22

7 Step Description 3. From the navigation panel on the left side, click Administrator Accounts. Select Add Login and Business Partner Craft Login to create a new login account. Click Submit. Note: Novell Identity Manager requires a login account with the privileges to busy-out and release stations and thus it requires either the craft, craft2 (Business Partner Craft) or dadmin account. 7 of 22

8 Step Description 4. For the field Login name, enter the login. In this configuration, the login novell is created. Configure the other parameters for the login as follows: Select type of authentication: Password [Uses a password for authentication.] Enter password or key / Re-enter password or key [Define the password] Click Submit to continue. This completes the configuration of the login Configure SAT Permissions From the Communication Manager SAT interface, designate the login account created in Section 4.1 as the Business Partner Craft Login. This is achieved by entering the enable craft2 n command, where n is the login account created in Section 4.1. Enter the save translation command to save the changes to the system after completing this section. 8 of 22

9 4.3. Enable Telnet Access to SAT Configure Communication Manager to allow telnet access to the SAT interface via port Step Description 1. From the navigation panel on the left side, click Server Access. For SAT (Telnet 5023), select Enable for both Service State and Corporate LAN Firewall and click Submit. This completes the configuration for Communication Manager. 9 of 22

10 4.4. Create Station Templates Using the SAT interface, create and configure the stations for each phone type (e.g digital telephone) and purpose (e.g. analog fax machine). When Novell Identity Manager installs a new extension, it will use these stations as templates by using the duplicate station command in Communication Manager. Step Description 1. Enter the add station n command, where n is an unused extension outside the range to be managed by Novell Identity Manager (see Section 5 Step 6). Configure the station parameters as required. The example below shows a station template for the 6408D+ digital telephone. 11 5. Configure Novell Identity Manager This section describes the configuration of Novell Identity Manager required to interoperate with Communication Manager. It is assumed that the Avaya PBX Driver has been created in Novell edirectory. For detail instructions, please refer to Chapter 4 Creating a New Driver in [3]. Configuration is done using Novell imanager, the web-based administration console for many Novell products, including Novell Identity Manager. For this test configuration, Novell imanager was installed on the same server as Novell Identity Manager. Step Description 1. Using a supported web browser such as Mozilla Firefox, browse to the Novell imanager web page IP address>:8443/nps/imanager.html. Log in using an account with administrative privileges. 11 of 22

12 Step Description 2. From the navigation frame on the left, click PBX PBX Sites. On the PBX Site Management page, click the Object Selector icon to select the PBX driver. 12 of 22

13 Step Description 3. Using the (up) and (down) arrow icon, browse to the container where the Avaya PBX driver is located. In this test configuration, the driver is located in AvayaDriverset.n, where n is the Organisation container and AvayaDriverset is the Organisation Unit container. Click AvayaPBX to select it. 13 of 22

14 Step Description 4. Click Create to create a new PBX site object for the first Communication Manager system. 5. Enter the name for the new PBX site object. In this test configuration, the name AvayaPBX is used the first Communication Manager system. Click OK. 14 of 22

15 Step Description 6. Configure the PBX Site as shown below and click OK to complete. Access Type: Select Telnet. Are jacks hot: Set to Yes. PBX Name: Enter the same name as in Step 5. Login name: Enter the login created in Section 4.1 Step 4. Password: Enter the password created in Section 4.1 Step 4. Extension length: This should be consistent with the dial-plan configured in Communication Manager. In this test configuration, the extension length is 5. The following fields define the range of extension that Identify Manager will manage (e.g. install, modify) and synchronize. o Beginning number of DID extension range o Ending number of DID extension range o Beginning number of non-did extension range o Ending number of non-did extension range IP Address: Enter the IP address of the Avaya S8300 Server. In this test configuration, it is Port name: Enter the telnet port for the Communication Manager SAT interface as shown in Section of 22

16 Step Description 7. Repeat Steps 4 to 6 to create a new PBX Site object for the second Communication Manager system. 8. To configure the poll interval that Identity Manager will use, click Identity Manager Identity Manager Overview from the left navigation frame. Click Driver Sets and then click AvayaDriverset. 16 of 22

17 Step Description 9. Click on the top-right corner of the Avaya PBX Driver object to reveal the Actions menu and click Edit properties. 17 of 22

18 Step Description 10. Scroll down to the Driver Parameters section and set the Poll Interval (minutes) field to the required poll interval. In this test configuration, the poll interval was set to 1 minute. 6. General Test Approach and Test Results The general test approach was to use Novell Identity Manager to create PBX work orders and verify the PBX work orders are carried out successfully on the Communication Manager systems. The feature test cases were performed manually. Novell Identity Manager was used to create PBX work orders to install and disconnect extensions, disable and enable extensions, move extensions, change the COR and user information on the extensions. In addition, changes to the user information were made to the extensions through the SAT interface on Communication Manager and the changes were synchronized to Novell Identity Manager. Testing was done using the Avaya 2400 and 6400 Series digital telephones and 6220 Series analog telephones. 18 of 22

19 The serviceability test cases were performed manually by disconnecting the Ethernet cables on the Novell Identity Manager server, rebooting of the Communication Manager and Novell Identity Manager server. All feature and serviceability test cases were executed and passed. 7. Verification Steps This section provides the tests that can be performed to verify proper configuration of Communication Manager and Novell Identity Manager Verify Communication Manager Verify that Novell Identity Manager has performed the PBX work order by using the list history command. 20 7.2. Verify Novell Identity Manager From the Novell imanager web page, open an existing PBX Work Order. Verify that the Description field shows Extension configured. 20 of 22

21 8. Conclusion These Application Notes describe the procedures for configuring the Novell Identity Manager to interoperate with Avaya Aura Communication Manager. In the configuration described in these Application Notes, Novell Identity Manager established connects to the Communication Manager SAT using telnet to configure the station extensions on Communication Manager. During compliance testing, all test cases were completed successfully. 9.
