1 Quick Reference Guide Digital Communication Terminal Model No. KX-DTU100 Thank you for purchasing a Digital Communication Terminal. Please read this manual carefully before using this product and save this manual for future use. For more details, please refer to the manuals of the PBX. This unit is connected to the PBX as a Digital Propriety Telephone (DPT). Refer to the DPT settings description in your PBX manual. 2 1 Important Information 1 Important Information WARNING Disconnect the telephone line cord from this product if this product emits smoke, an abnormal smell, or makes unusual noise. These conditions can cause fire or electric shock. Confirm that smoke has stopped and contact an authorized service center. For users in Canada This Class B digital apparatus complies with Canadian ICES-003. This product meets the applicable Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada technical specifications. Avoid installing the unit in damp or humid environments, such as bathrooms or swimming pools. 3

5 3 Location of Controls 3 Location of Controls A K J B C D I H G F E 1 Call Button (Flexible Button 1) Used to perform calls to caregivers. 2 One Touch Button 1 (Flexible Button 3) 3 One Touch Button 2 (Flexible Button 4) 4 One Touch Button 3 (Flexible Button 5) Perform the functions assigned to the respective Flexible Buttons as One Touch Buttons. 5 Microphone Used for hands-free talking. 6 Cancel Button (Flexible Button 2) Stops the features that are currently running. 7 Volume Button Used to adjust the volume. 8 Pin Jack Used Connect a Push Switch cable plug. It supports only 6.35 mm (1/4 in) plugs. 5

6 3 Location of Controls 9 Pin Jack Cover Used to cover the Pin Jack hole when the Pin Jack is not in use. 10 Speaker Used for hands-free talking and for listening to recorded messages. 11 Status LED Used to confirm the status of the unit. When the unit is in use, the Status LED turns off. 6

7 4 Feature Operations Before operating the unit Before operating this unit, initial setup of the PBX is necessary. For more information about how to setup the PBX settings, please refer to the PBX manuals or contact your dealer. Manuals and support information are provided on the Panasonic Web site at: Making a call Pressing the Call Button ( ) This operation will make a call. While the call is being made, a ringback tone is heard from the speaker. Simultaneously, the Call LED will begin to blink, and the Status LED will turn off. When the call is being made, pressing any One Touch Button will have no effect. Pressing the Push Switch (optional) This operation performs the same function as pressing the Call Button. When making a call with the Call Button or during a conversation, the call or conversation will be terminated, and it will make another call. Pulling out the Push Switch (optional) cable plug from the Pin Jack. This operation performs the same function as pressing the Call Button. When making a call with the Call Button or during a conversation, the call or conversation will be terminated, and it will make another call. Pulling the External Pull Switch (optional) Cord This operation performs the same function as pressing the Call Button. When making a call with the Call Button or during a conversation, the call or conversation will be terminated, and it will make another call. Pressing the One Touch Button 4 Feature Operations If each One Touch Button is assigned as a One-touch Dialing setting and a destination phone number is registered, you can make a phone call to that phone number just by pressing the button. 7

8 4.2 Playback messages For example, it is convenient to register a telephone number of relevant peoples or facilities. (Home, caregivers, family members, etc.) Note In order to operate in this way, proper PBX settings are needed. However depending on the PBX settings, different operation is also possible. For details, consult your system administrator. 4.2 Playback messages Pressing the One Touch Button If each One Touch Button is assigned to One-touch Dialing and other settings are set appropriately, you can hear recorded messages just by pressing the button. For example, it is convenient for listening to information and announcements of daily events, like menu information, facility information and other things. Note In order to operate in this way, proper PBX settings are needed. However depending on the PBX settings, different operation is also possible. For details, consult your system administrator. 4.3 Adjusting the Call Volume Pressing the Volume Button ( ) If you press the Volume Up button ( ) during a conversation or playback messages, the volume will increase, and if you press the Volume Down button ( ) during a conversation or playback messages, the volume will decrease. If you press and hold either button, the volume adjustment continues. The volume is adjustable in four levels. 4.4 Terminate currently running feature Pressing the Cancel Button To terminate a conversation, message playback or call, press the Cancel Button ( ). The Call LED and the Status LED will change to solid light, and the unit will enter standby status. 8

9 4.4 Terminate currently running feature Disconnected by the Called Party If the called party hangs up the phone, the conversation will be terminated and the unit will enter standby status without pressing the Cancel Button. *1 *1 A reorder tone may be heard from the speaker. Press the Cancel Button at that time, then the reorder tone will stop and the unit will enter standby status. Note In order to operate in this way, proper PBX settings are needed. However depending on the PBX settings, different operation is also possible. For details, consult your system administrator. 9

10 5 LED Indications 5 LED Indications The status of the unit is indicated by the condition of the two LEDs shown in the table below: A B Status 1 Status LED (Green) 2 Call Button LED (White) Out of service (OUS) *1 OFF OFF In Service (INS) *2 ON ON In Operating *3 ON OFF ON Blink (Slow) Cancel Button is pressed. *4 OFF ON Blink (Slow) ON One Touch Button is pressed. *5 ON OFF ON *1 The power of the unit is off, the PBX is not connected or an unsupported PBX is connected. *2 The unit is ready to use. (Standby status) *3 On calling or in conversation. *4 The unit finishes the operation and returns to standby status. *5 One Touch Button is assigned to three Flexible Buttons. 10

Insert the catches of the unit into the hooks located in the stand. 2. Gently slide down the unit until it locks into the stand. 3. Then confirm the unit will be mounted firmly and the right place on the stand. 11

12 6 Installation and Setup Removing the Stand 1. Gently slide up the unit until the stand hooks will be released from the holes of the unit with both hands as shown. 2. Remove the unit from the stand carefully. 12

13 6 Installation and Setup Connections Basic Connection for Wall Mounting Use two clamps TO PABX TO MAIN UNIT TO TEL Use clamps Connect to: a pull switch unit Connect to: a digital proprietary telephone Digital XDP connection Connect to a PBX. The telephone line cord 13

14 6 Installation and Setup Note When this unit will be installed on a telephone wall plate or a gang box, using any clamps are subject to change for smooth running of the cables. Connection for the Stand Installation 1. Connect the telephone line cords and the Pull switch cable as shown below Not use clamps Use upper clamp only 14

16 6 Installation and Setup Connecting a Push Switch unit 1. Before using, remove the Pin Jack Cover. Note To avoid accidental ingestion, place it out of reach of children. When the Push Switch cable plug is not connected to the Pin Jack, make sure the Pin Jack is covered by the Pin Jack Cover for protection. Pin Jack Cover 2. Insert the Push Switch Unit plug into the Pin Jack. Use a 6.35 mm (1/4 in) plug. 3. Check that the plug is fully inserted all the way. 16

17 6 Installation and Setup Connecting a Pull Switch unit 1. Use a flathead screwdriver to press and hold open the button below the terminal, and insert a pair of wire coming from the Pull Switch into the terminal. 2 pin terminal (Non polar) Stripped end of the wire 6 mm ( 15 / 64 in) Cable Length: Up to 50 m (164 ft) Pull Switch unit (In a bathroom or a next room) 17

18 6 Installation and Setup Note When connecting a Push Switch unit Technical information about the Push Switch units that have been tested with this unit is provided on the Panasonic Web site at: When connecting a Pull Switch unit A cable used to connect a pull switch to the 2 pin connector must be less than 50 m (164 ft) in length. We recommend to use a pair of wire cable with diameter of AWG 22 (Ф0.65 mm). Strip off the wire cover so that about 6 mm (15/64 in) of the wire is exposed. When connecting telephone line cords Ensure the cords are inserted in the grooves, and are clamped to prevent damage to the connectors. 18

19 7 Wall Mounting 7 Wall Mounting 1. Connect the cables to the unit and run the cables as shown in the illustration below. 2. Drive the screws into the wall either 83 mm (3 1/4 in) or 100 mm (3 15/16 in) apart, and mount the unit on the wall.
