1 Data Sheet Aggregation Services Routers Product Overview Aggregation Services Routers aggregate multiple WAN connections and network services including encrption and traffic manageme, and forward them across WAN connections at line speeds from 2.5 to 200. The routers coain both hardware and software redundanc in an industr-leading high-availabilit design. The latest additions to the are the Router and the Router. Both new routers up to 100 in a 2-rack-unit (2RU) and 60 in a 1-rack-unit (1RU) form factor, respectivel. The has 8 built-in 10-Gigabit (GE) ports and 8 1-GE ports, with the port adapter (EPA) slot for expansion. The has 4 built-in 10-GE ports, 8 1-GE ports, and 4 configurable 10-GE or 1-GE ports The s IOS, a modular operating sstem with modular packaging, feature velocit, and ful resilienc. The Embedded Services Processors (s), which are based on Flow Processor technolog, accelerate man advanced features such as crpto-based access securit; Network Address Translation (NAT), thread defense with Zone-Based Firewall (ZBFW), deep packet inspection (DPI), Unified Border Eleme (CUBE), and a diverse set of data-ceer-ierconnect (DCI) features. These services are implemeed in IOS without the need for additional hardware. Routers sit at the edge of our eerprise data ceer or large office connecting to the WAN, as well as in service provider pois of presence (POPs). The will benefit the following tpes of customers: Eerprises experiencing explosive network traffic as mobilit, cloud networking, and video and collaboration usage increase: s consolidate these various traffic streams and appl traffic manageme and redundanc properties to them to maiain consiste performance among eerprise sites and cloud locations. Network service providers needing to deliver high-performance services, such as DCI and branch-office server aggregation, to business customers: Service providers can also use the multiservice routers to deplo hosted and managed services to business and multimedia services to resideial customers. Existing 7200 Router (end-of-sale) customers looking for simple migration to a new multiservice platform that delivers greater performance with the same design. Features and Benefits The Routers carr a modular et iegrated design, so network operators can increase their network capacit and services without a hardware upgrade. With flexibilit in the number of connections, speed maximums, and price, ou don t have to under- or overprovision for an network location and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. 2 Alternativel, ou also have the option to bu -X and -HX models, so ou can increase b simpl purchasing upgrade licenses as ou grow to increase our network speed dnamicall. Table 1 summarizes the features and benefits of the Routers. Table 1. Feature Features and Benefits of Routers Benefit High Availabilit Redunda hardware compones and Stateful irachassis redundanc In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) IOS Subpackage Mode These compones provide sstem and business coinuit. The 1006, 1006-X, 1009-X, and 1013 have redunda route processors and s. The,,,, and 1004 have redunda instances of IOS. Redunda hardware combined with modular software coains faults to preve sstem wide failure. Redundanc across routers is enabled b pairing routers that act as backup for each other. The routers offer perce ( five-nines ) availabilit for consiste, high-performance user application experiences. You don t need to schedule dowime windows; changes are made while the sstem keeps on working, with nonstop routing availabilit. You can upgrade individual software compones in less time. Scalable Capacit and Throughput Flow Processor-based platform Hardware acceleration Corol- and forwarding-plane separation Advanced services can operate at high speeds without the need for additional hardware or blades. Features such as qualit of service (QoS), crptograph, and access corol lists (ACLs) are processed in hardware. You can scale corol and data planes independel of each other. Investme Protection Software modularit Pa-as-ou-grow licensing with -X models Shared Port Adapters (SPAs) Network Ierface Modules (NIMs) You can mix and match the services that best meet our business needs; ou won t waste investmes on capabilities ou don t need. When ou need greater, ou simpl activate it with a change in software license, rather than having to expend capital for additional hardware. You can reuse our investme in network I/O across platforms. You can reuse our investme in network I/O across platforms. Product Portfolio The coains 8 models with varing tpes of I/O connectivit and slots and differe maximum rates (Figure 1). All models use the innovative and ful Flow Processor and the same feature set based on the IOS XE Operating Sstem. All this commonalit simplifies manageme and operations. Currel, two tpes of feature licenses are available. Certain services require onl a right-to-use (RTU) license, whereas other services require both an RTU license and one or more number-of-sessions licenses. All the licenses on the are honor-based, meaning that the licenses are not enforced through a product activation or license ke. For Routers, one of the following five packages is required: IOS XE UNIVERSAL - NO PAYLOAD ENCRYPTION IOS XE UNIVERSAL IOS XE UNIVERSAL WITHOUT Lawful Iercept IOS XE UNIVERSAL - NO PAYLOAD ENCRYPTION WITHOUT Lawful Iercept To enable a set of required features, one of the following three technolog packages is required: IP Base License Advanced IP Services License Advanced Services License 2016 and/or its affiliates. 4 Use Cases Tables 2 and 3 describe eerprise and service provider application examples, respectivel. Table 2. Eerprise Applications Deplome Scenario Description Sstem Characteristics WAN edge: Guaraee high-priorit applications b creating a virtual glass ceiling for lower-priorit applications. Improve user experiences. Multiservice, scalable, and secure headend: IP Securit (IPsec) VPN aggregation scales to meet the new bandwidth demands of service provider IP VPNs. Embedded high-speed firewall: With the Zone-Based Polic Firewall, the acts as an implicit and complete barrier between an ierfaces not members of the same zone. An explicit zone-pair polic must be specified (using Polic Language; that is, MQC) in each direction between each zone pair. The polic establishes within the router the kind of stateful inspection (Laer 4, Laer 7, or application) and session parameters to appl to each zone pairing. Example: An explicit polic allowing HTTP and Domain Name Sstem (DNS) to traverse the Iernet-demilitarized zone (DMZ) zone boundar would be required. Managed CPE: This implemeation of branch-office architecture offers ful investme protection with services and scale. Applies Modular QoS CLI (MQC) policies on VLANs or tunnels Limits an arbitrar collection of low-priorit traffic to a certain bandwidth Classifies based on differeiated services code poi (DSCP), Network-Based Application Recognition (NBAR), and IOS IOS FPM (FPM) io numerous hierarchies, one for high priorit and one for low priorit Reduces capital expenditures (CapEx) and operating expenses (OpEx) b migrating and consolidating to fewer Routers Protects investme through eas transition to much higher encrption, offering encrption of up to 78 with the 2 200) Offers easier manageme through embedded securit services in the Flow Processor, with no additional service modules or blades required Optimized for QoS and IP Multicast applications The firewall is embedded in the Flow Processor; no additional service blades or modules are required. Multiple gigabits of bandwidth are routed while at the same time the router performs Zone-Based Polic Firewall and other baseline features such as QoS, IPv4, IPv6, NetFlow, and others. The provides logging of all firewall session states off to network manageme applications capable of accepting relativel huge amous of flow data. Third-part applications can handle the session data. Managed customer premises equipme (CPE) helps branch offices route correctl over various tpes of to compl with service-level agreemes (SLAs). This application encrpts multiple gigabits of bandwidth without an additional service blades or modules. Managed CPE optimizes the WAN to route around brownouts in the service provider network to further guaraee mission-critical applications. This application offers small form factors (1 rack unit [1RU] for the X and and 2RUs for the and Routers), including software modularit and ISSU. Note: ISSU is not ed on,,,, or Managed CPE offers accessibilit even when the IOS Software is down. Implemes flexible hierarchies Supports 464,000 queues Allows all queues to have a minimum, maximum, and excess bandwidth with priorit propagation Supports thousands of sites Supports 8,000 IPsec tunnels Offers up to 78- encrption performance and up to 2 noncrptographic with the 2 Embedded Services Processor 200) engine Provides firewall performance of 2.5 to 200, depending on the used Offers high-speed logging of 40,000 sessions per second with NetFlow Version 9 Offers first-in-industr software redundanc, without an additional hardware module, on, HX,,, and 1004; hardware redundanc and ISSU are ed on the 1006 and Offers ful firewall and NAT performance of 2.5 to 200 and 1.8- to 78- encrption in addition to WAN optimization and voice features 2016 and/or its affiliates. 5 Table 3. Service Provider Applications Deplome Scenario Description Sstem Characteristics Broadband L2TP Access Concerator (LAC) or L2TP Network Server (LNS): The solution offers Laer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) endpoi-to-tunnel Poi-to-Poi Protocol (PPPoX) or IP sessions with bandwidth demands in the STM-1 ATM, Fast, Gigabit, and 10 Gigabit range. Service provider edge: Laer 3 VPN (L3VPN) provider edge: Example: You can deplo the solution at the distributed provider edge or provider edge in global VPN networks for bandwidth demands such as asmmetric DSL (ADSL), T1/E1, STM-1, STM-4, Fast, Gigabit, etc. Service provider edge: High-end route reflector: You can use the solution as a route reflector for bandwidth of 40. Next-generation voice and multimedia example: Unified Border Eleme Eerprise Edition (ENT Edition): The SBC application (named Unified Border Eleme [ENT Edition]) performs the voice and video gatewa functions simultaneousl with regular IP data services. No appliance or additional service blade is required. The corol protocols and media protocols work transparel within a complex voice architecture. For more information, refer to the CUBE data sheet at The application is ideal for triplepla (data, voice, and video) wholesale deplomes. It offers iegral service deliver. Per-user firewall, session border coroller (SBC), etc. are ed. The application provides iegral services in the Flow Processor. It provides encrption, FPM, NBAR, SBC, IP Multicast, etc. The application provides high scalabilit. It offers a modular design of the route processor and with hardware and software redundanc. Secure and autheicated Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunk connections enable service providers to offer real-time voice and video services. The WAN edge is simpler to manage because there is onl one egress and one ingress poi for access to Iernet or service provider services. The corol plane is separated from the data-forwarding plane, so the signaling and corol processes are separate from media processing. The CUBE SBC application can be used for SIP trunk video and/or audio services provided b service providers or for Iernet-accessible SIP line-side services to Unified Communications Manager. Provides ver high scalabilit of up to 64,000 subscribers and up to 16,000 tunnels Offers excelle multicast performance Scales to 8,000 Virtual Route Forwarding (VRF) instances, 1 million Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) labels, and 4,000 access corol lists (ACLs) Supports up to 4 million IPv4 routes Supports up to 4 million IPv6 routes Scales up to 29 million IPv4 routes Supports 64,000 Laer 3 adjacencies Facilitates SBC with securit, QoS, IPv4, and IPv6 (IP Unicast and IP Multicast simultaneousl) Supports 16,000 simultaneous voice calls and multimedia data of up to 200 with accouing, firewall, and call qualit enabled with inbox high-availabilit infrastructure and Dnamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Rela Product Specifications Table 4 compares the differe Routers, and Table 5 compares the differe processor module specifications.
