SonicOS Notes Contents Key Features... 2 Known Issues... 3 Resolved Issues... 5 Upgrading SonicOS Enhanced Image Procedures... 6 Related Technical Documentation... 9 Platform Compatibility The SonicOS Enhanced release is supported on the following SonicWALL Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) security appliance: SonicWALL NSA 2400MX This release supports the following Web browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher Mozilla Firefox 2.0 and higher Netscape 9.0 and higher Chrome 4.0 and higher Strong SSL and TLS Encryption Browser Requirements The internal SonicWALL Web server only supports SSL version 3.0 and TLS with strong ciphers (128 bits or greater) when negotiating HTTPS management sessions. SSL implementations prior to version 3.0 and weak ciphers (symmetric ciphers less than 128 bits) are not supported. This heightened level of HTTPS security protects against potential SSLv2 roll-back vulnerabilities and ensures compliance with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) and other security and risk-management standards. TIP: By default, Mozilla Firefox 2.0 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 enable SSL 3.0 and TLS, and disable SSL 2.0. SonicWALL recommends using the most recent Web browser releases. If you are using a previous release of these browsers, you should enable SSL 3.0 and TLS and disable SSL 2.0. In Internet Explorer, do the following: 1. Select Tools menu > Internet Options. 2. Click the Advanced tab. 3. Under the Settings option, uncheck the SSL 2.0. In Mozilla Firefox, do the following: 1. Select Tools menu > Options. 2. Click the Advanced tab. 3. Select the Encryption tab. 4. Make sure SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 are checked. Notes

Key Features SonicOS Enhanced supports the following SonicWALL NSA 2400MX Modules: WARNING: You MUST power down the appliance before installing or replacing the modules. 1-port T1/E1 Module Provides the connection of a T1 or E1 (digitally multiplexed telecommunications carrier system) circuit to a SonicWALL firewall using a RJ-45 jack. 2-port LAN Bypass Module Removes a single point of failure so that essential business communication can continue while a network failure is diagnosed and resolved. NOTE: The LAN Bypass Module is supported only when installed in slot M0. 1 Port ADSL (RJ-11) Provides Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) over standard telephone service (POTS) with a downstream rate of 12.0 Mbit/s and an upstream rate of 1.3 Mbit/s. 2

Known Issues This section provides details about the known issues in the SonicOS Enhanced release. High Availability The wizard does not add active security appliance items to the passive security appliance. Occurs when using the installation wizard to synchronize the active security appliance items with the passive security appliance. These items include policies, application objects, and actions Networking The traffic for WAN to LAN packets are encapsulated correctly and forwarded from the Point-to-Point Tunnel Protocol (PPTP) interface, but reply PPTP packets cannot be forwarded from the LAN to the WAN. Occurs when PPTP is configured with WAN Load Balancing (WLB) The LAN Bypass or SFP modules can become unresponsive. The system returns an error message if more than 25 Virtual LAN (VLAN) connections are configured. The Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) and Routing Internet Protocol (RIP) traffic on the T1/E1 interface can become disabled. Link status is shown as IDLE and traffic is not passed. The firewall ceases to function when the LAN Bypass Module is configured for WAN. Firewall ceases to function when you import preferences. A default route from the Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol is incorrectly selected in the routing table. The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Server Lease Scope entry associated with an interface on a 4GE module is still present after the module is removed. Occurs when attempting to hot-swap modules. Workaround: Power-down the appliance before installing or replacing modules. Occurs when attempting to configure more than 25 VLAN connections per trunk port. Only 25 VLAN connections can be supported. Occurs when restarting the firewall when the T1/E1 interface was configured to use Point-to- Point Protocol (PPP). Occurs when the link is initially configured to use Logical Link Control (LLC) on both the firewall side and the Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) side, then the DSLAM side is changed to use Virtual Circuit Multiplexing (VC- MUX).No traffic passes through the firewall and no warning is given. Occurs when the module was not properly initialized. Workaround: Power off the appliance and re-install the module. Occurs when the module was not properly initialized. Workaround: Power off the appliance and re-install the module. Occurs when a static default route is configured on one of the WAN interfaces that are connected to the router. Occurs when the 4GE module M0:X1 interface is assigned to the WLAN zone, a DHCP server lease scope is created for M0:X1, and then the system is powered off and the module is removed. After restarting, the DHCP lease scope still exists

VPN An automatically added access rule does not change status from enabled to disabled, and cannot be deleted. Occurs when a static route is created from the M1:X0 subnet to a remote Virtual Private Network (VPN) subnet, and is bound to an interface, causing an access rule to be automatically created between LAN and VPN zones, then the access rule is edited to change the service from any to FTP. The access rule is not disabled when the interface is disabled, and is not deleted when the static route or the interface is deleted

Resolved Issues This section provides details about the resolved issues in the SonicOS Enhanced release. Anti-Spam Active anti-spam setting is disabled when Occurs when an active Anti-Spam setting importing a Preference file. becomes disabled. High Availability Primary/backup VLAN interface IP address cannot be managed in High Availability mode. Occurs in High Availability Mode. The Virtual IP address can be managed, but the VLAN IP address cannot Networking RIPv1 continues to be enabled after disabling it Occurs when RIPv1 is enabled on the X and then restarting the security appliance interface and RIPv2 is enabled on the M0:X0 interface of the 4GE module, and then the appliance is powered off and the module is removed. After restarting the appliance, the admin disables RIPv1 on X0, but after another restart, it is still enabled. Workaround: Disable RIPv1 on X0, enable RIP on another interface, such as X4, and then click Apply. Restart the security appliance. Sometimes, a SonicPoint-N security appliance does not apply a new provisioning profile. This issue can cause the SSID to use the old profile. Routing does not work on T1/E1 with a Point-to- Point Protocol (PPP) link. DHCP scope is lost after restarting the firewall. The DHCP server scope disappears in some WAN interface configurations. Switching Occurs when a SonicPoint-N security appliance is connected to a 4GE module interface, such as M0:X2, and a VLAN subinterface is created on the module interface. Workaround: Restart the firewall, and then restart the SonicPoint-N security appliance. Occurs when the T1/E1 interface is using PPP/High Level Data Link Control (HDLC) encapsulation. Occurs when the DHCP server is enabled in L2Bridge mode. Occurs when the WAN interface is configured as static with a DNS server address Port security settings are not cleared, allowing Occurs when port security is enabled on X0 and access from a different management system. the appliance is reset to factory defaults. 5
