2 Thank you for choosing SOUNDLIGHT. The SOUNDLIGHT Ethernet - DMX Gateway 7404A-H is an intelligent device intended to extract four DMX universes (4x 512 data slots) from EtherNet. All connections are via patented cage clamp termimals to allow fast and easy installation and setup. The EtherNet - DMX gateway 7404A-H is not only processing, but also regenerating und buffering the DMX signal. This allows to refresh "worn" DMX links. The unit is compatible with DMX512/1990, DMX512-A, DIN , as well as ANSI E1-20 DMX RDM. Unpacking Please remove the device carefully out of the box. You should find these items: - the EtherNet-DMX Gateway 7404A-H - this manual The shipment has left our factory in good condition. Please check each part carefully. In case of damage during transport be sure to notify the shipping company immediately (obey deadlines!) and ask for a written report of damage. Claims for replacement of broken stuff can only be placed with a written and signed report issued by the responsible transport company. Connectors The 7404A-H uses patented screwless cage clamp connectors. Cage clamps ensure safe and reliable contact at all times and are immune against vibrations and mechanical shock. To open the cage clamp, use a standard flat blade screwdriver (no phillipps or pozidrive screwdriver please) and gently press to open. Insert wire and release. The clamps can be used for solid or stranded wires alike, but when using stranded wires we strongly recommend to use isolating ferrules whenever possible. 3 Getting to work The 7404A-H supports DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). When enabled, DHCP automatically assigns the network address to the DMX converter. All examples use the same setup, thus the following paragraphs will show how to detect and setup the converter. Tools There are many tools to manage EtherNet stuff. Some which may be helpful are: 1. The ArtNetominator This application ist for Windows OS. Download at After starting the program, goto Nodes and Refresh and the program will display the nodes found. Since the 7404A-H supports four outputs, it may appear four times listed. Here, the network address displayed is

4 Internal Web Server Call the internal webserver using your browser. Open the browser and enter: <enter> or, when the network address is known, <enter> This will open the configuration screen: The windows shows indicators for Online, Power and Net (same as on the decoder), plus four indicators for DMX ports 1 thru 4. DMX indicators will only come on when traffic is detected. SETUP: The 7404A-H EtherNet-DMX Converter can process 4 universes simultaneously. Setup can be done per universe, that is, each DMX universe can be configured individually. RDM: check to enable RDM communication. When enabled, auto-discovery will silently run in background mode. Thus DMX NSC (null start code) packets are interleaved with RDM discovery packets frequently.

5 DELTA: NET SUB-UNI RATE check to enable DELTA mode. When enabled, DMX data packets are only generated upon DMX data changes. When no changes are present, the last telegram will be repeated after 900 milliseconds (DMX timeout will be detected after 1000ms). Thus DELTA mode significantly reduces DMX traffic on the lines. Select the NET number. NET numbers range from 00(hex) to 7F (hex) equivalent to 0 (dec) to 127(dec) Select the Sub-Universe number. SUB UNIVERSES range for 00 (hex) to FF (hex) equivaletn to 0 (dec) to 255 (dec). Please note when using sacn protocol: The use of universe 0 is not recommended as sacn universe numbering starts at 1. Sets the telegram repeat rate. The standard setting is HIGH providing the fastest DMX data rate and the highest data throughput. HIGH: Repeat rate = 44 Hz MEDIUM: Repeat rate = 24 Hz SLOW: Repeat rate = 17 Hz For all types of DMX equipment being fully compliant to the DMX standards (such as ANSI E1-11 DMX512-A) the highest repeat rate is recommended. There are, anyhow, pieces of equipment (mostly of far-east origin) that do not comply with the original standard. In this case, the compatibility modes MEDIUM or SLOW might help. PROTOCOL: Select the protocol of the incoming EtherNet data. ARTNET: ArtNet sacn: Streaming ACN - see ANSI E1-31 Lightweight streaming protocol for transport of DMX512 using ACN MERGE: The 7404A-H can merge two streams of data to one DMX data output. The method of merging can either be HTP or LTP. HTP Highest takes Precendence (Default); the levels of both streams are Copared and the highest of both is output LTP Latest takes Precedence; all levels are compared to the previous Values and if there are changes detected, then that level is output. Network Address The Decoder comes with DHCP enabled; thus it can be connected to a network straight away and receives its network address automatically when a DHCP server is present (recommended). You don t have to care for anything. When assigning a network address manually, the address and the network mask must be set. The default network address is 2.x.x.x using a mask of , meaning that the first byte (2) is the network address and the remaining three bytes define the subnet. The RESET Button (S1, see page 2) can be used in two modes: Reset Button SQAWK: RESET: Pressing shortly sends a notification over the network to the console to identify the 7404A-H gateway. Keeping the button pressed during power-up resets the node to factory settings.

6 Wireless Applications You can integrate wireless applications into your network. Some applications are available on the AppStore. Locate and install the OSRAM DMX Controller App. First select settings and press the Poll DMX nodes button. Then select the appropriate node from the drop-dwon list. Set the number of channels to 512 and Reset Channel #. Then go back to the Channel screen and move the faders. The green Data Led on the decoder shall come up as soon as the fader is moved and the DMX output should show the data (see right). IMPORTANT NOTICE: The DMX output will only be activated upon data reception via ArtNet. To keep ethernet traffic as low as possible, usually data will only be sent when DMX data are modified. Using the example above, either move a fader, press Update or press Black twice to generate DMX output after power down. To ensure active DMX output at all times, you may want to consider including a heartbeat slot changing its value at least each second. The interface has been tested in our EMC lab to comply with EN To ensure the best performance regarding radiated and conducted emissions we suggest to install the interface card in a closed, conductive (e.g. metal) housing, which must be connected to GND. Please make sure that shielded data cable is used throughout and the shield is connected properly to the GND pin. Shield must never make contact to other signal lines. FCC STATEMENT This product has been tested and complies with the specifications for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used according to the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. DISTURBANCES If a trouble-free operation cannot be guaranteed, disconnect the DMX interface and secure it against unwanted operation. This is especially necessary, when - the unit has visible damages; - the unit does not operate; - internal parts are loose; - connection cables show visible damages.

8 LIMITED WARRANTY This DMX interface ist warranted against defects in metarials and workmanship for a period of 12 month, beginning with the date of purchase. The warranty is limited to repair or exchange of the hardware product; no further liability is assumed. SOUNDLIGHT is not responsible for damages or for loss of data, sales or profit which arise from usage or breakdown of the hardware product. In Germany, SOUNDLIGHT will repair or replace established defects in hardware, provided that the defective part is sent in, freight paid, through the responsible dealer along with warranty card and/or sales receipt prior to expiration of warranty. Warranty is void: - when modifying or trying to repair the unit without authorisation; - modification of the circuitry; - damages by interference of other persons; - operation which is not in arccordance with the manual; - connection to wrong voltage or current; - misuse. SERVICE There are no parts within the Ethet-DMX Converter 7404A-H which require the user's attention. Should your unit require servicing, please send it to the factory, freight paid. END OF LIFETIME When the useful lifetime of this product has been reached, it must be disposed of properly. Electronic devices must not be placed in domestic waste.
