3 Get Started Thank you for your purchase of the Trek N300 Travel Router and Range Extender PR2000. Whether you use the in the home or on the go (or both), the personal router is your solution to a better experience. Connect in the Home The personal router provides you with the means to extend and expand the home network that you already have with your existing connection. Use the personal router for any of the following situations: Add a router to your home network. Do you want to connect your wireless devices to your network? Convert your home network into a home network. For more information, see Connection Setup on page 8. Extend the range of your home network. Do you want to use your wireless devices at a greater distance from your router? Extend the range of your router with a range extender. For more information, see Extender Setup on page 10. 3
4 Bridge the distance to your -ready TV. Is your -ready TV or other Ethernet-enabled device too far from your router for an Ethernet cable connection? Bridge the distance with a bridge. Examples of Ethernet-enabled devices include an -ready TV, Blu-ray player, gaming console, and desktop or laptop computer. For more information, see Bridge Setup on page 12. 5 Wired Off Wireles Meet Your Personal Router Locate the hardware features on your personal router. Turn off the personal router. Wireless. Use an connection with a wireless link. Inputs Use either of the following methods to power your personal router: AC power connection. 6 Indicator LEDs Monitor the status of your personal router using the following LEDs: Cover (rotate clockwise to open) Wired Off Wireles Indicator LEDs Green. The personal router is powered on. Off. The personal router is powered off. Green. Either the /LAN port is connected physically or a wireless channel is associated successfully. Blinking green. One of the following occurred: - The Reset button was pressed longer than five seconds. - A firmware upgrade is in progress. - The bandwidth limit was exceeded. Off. The personal router is not connected in either wired or wireless mode. Green. Either the LAN port or a wireless device is connected to the personal router. Off. No device is connected. Green. The drive is properly mounted. Off. No drive is detected. 6
7 via Wired Off Wireles Reset LAN /LAN Connection Ports and Reset Button Connect or reset your personal router using the following items: Reset /LAN Reset button Connection ports LAN Reset button. To reset the personal router to its factory settings, insert a paper clip into the Reset hole and hold it until the LED blinks. /LAN port. An Ethernet port for an connection. LAN port. A LAN port for any Ethernetenabled device. port. A port for storage or printer. When plugged into the wall, the port can be used as a cell phone charger. Antenna Orientation Reset /LAN LAN The antenna is inside the cover. Rotate the cover clockwise to orient the antenna. For best performance, keep the cover vertical when you use your personal router. 7
8 Wired Off Wireles Connection Setup Connect to the with an Ethernet cable. DSL or cable modem (Optional) Connect a device to the port To connect to the with an Ethernet cable: 1. Connect an Ethernet cable between the /LAN port of the personal router and the Ethernet port of your DSL or cable modem. 2. Connect an Ethernet cable between the LAN port of the personal router and the Ethernet port of your computer. 3. Connect the personal router to a power source. 9 4. Turn on power to the personal router by moving the Mode switch from the Off position to the Wired position. 5. Open a web browser on your computer, type in the address field, and press the Enter key. If a login screen displays, enter admin for your user name and password for your password. Then click the OK button. The Setup Wizard screen displays. 6. Click the Next button and follow the prompts of the Setup Wizard. When you are done, the Congratulations screen displays. The personal router is connected to the. 7. (Optional) Connect your wireless devices to the personal router. 10 Wired Off Wireles Wired Off Wireles Extender Setup Use the personal router as a extender to connect your wireless devices that are outside the range of your existing router. recommends that you connect to the network of the personal router when a wireless device is in a dead zone where the connection to your existing router is poor or nonexistent. To use the personal router as a extender: 1. Place the personal router at an equal distance between your existing router and the wireless device that is located in the dead zone of your router. DO DON T When possible, specify the settings of the personal router and your existing router in the same room. 2. Connect the personal router to a power source. Connect an Ethernet cable between the LAN port of the personal router and the Ethernet port of an Ethernet-enabled device. 2. (Optional) Connect an Ethernet cable between the /LAN port of the personal router and the Ethernet port of another device. 3. Connect the personal router to a power source. 16 Reset LAN /LAN Cellular Connection Setup Make a 3G/4G mobile broadband connection to your cellular service. You must have a valid 3G/4G dongle that is connected to the port of the personal router. Contact your cellular service provider for more information (this feature is available only in certain regions). To connect to your cellular service: 1. Insert the 3G/4G dongle into the port of the personal router. For a list of supported 3G/4G dongles, see the user manual. 2. Locate the personal router near a window so that it has access to the cellular network. 16
17 3. Connect an Ethernet cable between the LAN port of the personal router and the Ethernet port of your computer. 4. Connect the personal router to a power source. For more information, see Inputs on page Turn on power to the personal router by moving the Mode switch from the Off position to the Wireless position. 6. Rotate the personal router s cover clockwise to orient the antenna. For more information, see Antenna Orientation on page Open a web browser on your computer, type in the address field, and press the Enter key. 18 Connect Devices to Your Network Connect wireless devices such as desktops, laptops, smartphones, and tablets to your personal router. You can connect these devices either manually or using the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) method. For best wireless connection performance, rotate the personal router s cover clockwise to position its antenna properly. For more information, see Antenna Orientation on page 7. To connect devices manually to your personal router: 1. From your wireless device, view the available wireless networks. For more information, see the manual that came with your device. 2. From the list of available wireless networks, select the wireless network name (SSID) of the personal router. The SSID is printed on the personal router s product label. 3. From your wireless device, initiate a wireless connection. For more information, see the manual that came with your device. 4. When prompted by your wireless device, enter the wireless network key (password) of the personal router. The password is printed on the personal router s product label. 5. From the screen of your wireless device, click the appropriate button to continue the connection procedure. 18
19 You are connected wirelessly to the personal router. 6. Repeat Step 1 through Step 5 for each wireless device that you want to connect to the personal router. Use WPS to connect a device to the personal router without entering the wireless network name or network key. Instead, you log in to the personal router and either click a button or enter a PIN to connect. WPS supports WPA and WPA2 wireless security. To connect devices to your personal router with WPS: 1. Log in to the personal router and select ADVANCED > WPS Wizard > Next. For more information, see the user manual. 2. Select one of the following radio buttons: Push Button (recommended). Click the button. PIN Number. Select the PIN number radio button and enter the client PIN in the field that displays. 3. Use the WPS software on your wireless device to connect to the personal router. For more information, see the manual that came with your device. 19
