1 Ericsson Hyperscale Datacenter System 8000 NRU 0101 Network Rack Unit Ericsson NRU 0101 provides networking datacenter fabric capabilities including switching, routing, storage and analytics and is a fully integrated part of Ericsson Hyperscale Datacenter 8000, providing Software Defined Infrastructure capabilities. NRU 0101 is built to provide a flexible block for the L2/L3 CLOS topology and it can be used in both the spine and leaf layers.

With up to 80x10 GE break-out ports and 8x40 GE interconnect ports, the NRU 0101 gives great options to build the entire CLOS from ground up. The 4 x 10 Gb/s can be aggregated to support 40 Gb/s. NRU 0101 provides the flexibility to combine optical and electrical connections by selecting the appropriate QSFP+ module. Advanced analytics providing real time networking telemetry The powerful onboard CPU and memory gives the switch capabilities beyond Broadcom Trident 2 e.g. flow based analytics on fabric level and without MAC entries limited by hardware tables size as hardware serves as cache of software tables. The switch has internal SSD for storing large amounts of analytics data reducing the need for external storage and simplifying regular datacenter operations. The internal storage is also used as a Time Machine (a.k.a. network digital video recorder). The Time Machine capability enables analysis of networking transactions for deep forensics by going back through up to 3 years of networking meta data. Single fabric wide management interface The default way to configure the switches is done via Ericsson HDS Command Center, however a traditional CLI is provided as well. Granular visibility and control is provided through a fabric wide directory that contains endpoint information (vports). The directory also allows for granular flow filtering and control (vflow). NRU 0101 in Ericsson Hyperscale Datacenter System 8000 Ericsson Hyperscale Datacenter System 8000 is a Software-Defined Infrastructure for telecom providers, service providers, and enterprises. It is the first complete system implementing Intel Rack Scale Design, and is fully aligned with the Intel roadmap. The system introduces the concept of disaggregated and pooled hardware resources for maximum utilization and flexibility to best address the need of any workload. Ericsson Command Center is the management system. The HDS networking software with the NRU supports vpod functionality which helps partition the hardware resources across compute, storage and networking. Virtual PODs can interface with multiple virtual infrastructure managers (VIM) on the same physical POD thus creating logical tenancy. The networking software also provides secure management interfaces to each of these tenants. NRU 0101 provides a standard OVSDB interface for SDN control in a virtual or bare metal vpod environment. The Ericsson Cloud SDN controller is able to configure hardware accelerated VTEP (VXLAN Termination End Point). Ericsson Command Center also manages 3PP systems that can be pooled and configured into vpods. A requirement is that they are able to accept a Linux-based agent, or can communicate through an IPMI interface.
