Biography Yanbo Li Founder of NKN & Co-Founder of Onchain Open source guru, Linux Kernel network subsystem code contributor. Founded and led Onchain Beijing office and developed open source blockchain platform DNA (Distributed Network Architecture).( Studied in Stanford and has an outstanding background in cryptography. More than 10 years of R&D experience at Nokia, Qualcomm, specializing in architecture design of distributed network system and implementation of Mesh network protocol.
The Missing Element Compute Proof of Work, e.g. Bitcoin, Ethereum Storage Proof of Transmit/Relay? Network connectivity& transmission Proof of Storage e.g. IPFS/Filecoin, Sia, Storj
Challenges to Free Bits of Internet Today Privacy Network Fragmentation Net Neutrality Inefficient Usage of Network Selective Propagation
Challenges of Existing P2P or Blockchain Network Mesh network initialization highly depends on root node or seed nodes Static network topology is susceptible to attack (even for mesh networks) Absence of economic incentive scheme for the network transport layer A compromised decentralization to enhance performance /controllability at expense of equality and scalability
A Cellular Automata powered, decentralized data relay network built on Blockchain & incentivized by native token
What We Care How to decentralize network How to make each node independent of each other How to introduce randomness via defining the rules regulating the interactions between nodes How to encourage the participation of nodes inside entire network How to automate the network Use centralization to improve efficiency Sacrifice the extendibility of network in exchange for expediting consensus Put up barrier and set up privileges in the name of improving security Use pure financial tools or trusted 3rd party to solve technical problem
Goal of NKN Powered by Blockchain and experiment of NKS Tokenize data transmission capability to incentivize participating nodes Efficient and dynamic routing selection Connect anyone at anyplace Secure net neutrality from network layer Always open and scalable
Inspirations from NKS A New Kind of Science - Stephen Wolfram Simple microscopic rules can lead to complex behavior Wolfram s 4 classes of behaviors to highlight the Edges of Chaos for Self-organization Richness of computational universe The principle of computational equivalence The nature of computational irreducibility Cellular Automata Non-von-Neumann-style architecture Network fully decentralized Equal peers running in parallel Dynamic, self-organized and self-evolution Simplicity of rules
Cellular Automata & NKN Network All nodes are equal in the network Simple Cellular Automata (CA) rule is selected Every node keeps own CA state, as well as neighbors' CA state For each network cycle, the node that received data will update its CA state according to the rule and broadcast to neighboring nodes For each cycle, all the nodes will update their CA state autonomously based on the same rule and neighboring states. The links will be adjusted based on their states, therefore the network topology is evolving without changing the underlying infrastructure or protocol
NKN Features Truly Decentralized Routing Dynamics Openness & Fairness NKN powered by Cellular Automata Self-Evolution Self-Organized
NKN Blockchain Decentralization with Scalability Application Layer Incentive Layer: Transmission capability tokenized Consensus Layer:Introducing a useful proof of work Network Layer: Introduce Cellular Automata rules and dynamic topology Data Layer
Technical Highlights Cellular Automata & Rule A useful Proof of Work Tokenization of data transmission capability Introduce Cellular Automata to rebuild the network layer. Move beyond P2P network to make a more robust, secure, and personal privacy-conscious network connection layer. Introduce the Proof of Relay & Cellular Automate to improve the consensus efficiency and fairness of the Blockchain system. Improve the overall resource utilization of data transmission for DApp. Incentivize more people to join and expand the network. An universal network layer A better Blockchain system
Cellular Automata Powered Innovations CA and Networking Dynamic, secure, unpredictable, self-evolving Cellular Automata Rule CA and Blockchain PoW or Proof of Relay, Fair and efficient consensus Tokenizing network resource Shared economy, efficient resource utilization
NKN Road Map Phase 1 Release our own online Blockchain forum for technical communication Phase 2 Release Whitepaper & Economic Model Phase 3 Launch Beta NKN network with ledger based on Cellular Automata & Proof of Relay Phase 4 Release high efficient and scalable NKN network 1.0
Economic Model Miners Developers Investors NKN Foundation Similar to Filecoin/IPFS but in network domain, we intend to tokenize the participators data transmission capability instead of their storage. NKN s final distribution ratio is to be determined. NKN will provide superior connectivity by using Cellular Automata powered dynamic and self-evolutionary network while effectively using Blockchain s native economic model (Token) to motivate participants to join and expand the network.
