3 1.0 Functionality The Uniwire to converter is used between data signal and either Uniwire or opto isolated port on communication interface for Uniflo 1100 or Uniflo Reference to Uniflo 1100 Installation Manual for general information. Reference to Uniflo 1200 Installation Manual for general information. Definitions Technicians are qualified persons educated or trained to mount, operate, and also troubleshoot technically correct and in accordance with safety regulations. Limitations This manual only applies to the following Product numbers: Uniwire to converter and only for mounting in non-hazardous area. Repair of the unit and replacement of components must be done by Flonidan only. 2.0 Mounting Only technicians who are familiar with the technical terms, warnings, and instructions in the manual and who are able to follow these should connect the module. Descriptions of input / output and supply connections will follow in this paper. When mounting the option board please also observe the guidelines in the paper "ESD correct handling". 2.1 Installation type 1, Uniwire to converter for EX installation: To be connected between an port and Uniwire (going into hazardous area) with a serial data communication isolator (type MTL5051) in between. Jumper must be open circuit. 2.4 Installation type 4, to optical isolated port at communication controller EX installation: To connect a port to the optical isolated port at a communication controller for Uniflo 1100 & 1200 (placed in hazardous area), with a serial data communication isolator (type MTL5051) and zener barrier in between. PEPPERL & Zener barrier: The intrinsic safety does not depend on the earth connections on the Zener barrier. Therefore it s not needed to connect the earth terminals on the Zener barrier. 5 Setting jumper inside. Jumper must be open circuit. The MTL5051 need additional power supply 24VDC. Notes: # Instead of supply from terminal 4 DTR it is possible to use external supply. Then connect: 0V at terminal 2 and +7-12VDC at terminal 5 on to Uniwire converter. Page 5 of 8

6 3.0 Ex description 3.1 General The Uniwire to converter cannot be placed in hazardous environment, but it can be connected to Uniflo 1200 in hazardous area via Uniwire or the communication controller. 3.2 ATEX and intrinsic safety (Installation type 1 and 4 only): The product is a simple apparatus Only to be connected in the intrinsic safe circuit between communication isolator MTL5051 manufactured by Measurement technology LTD and Flonidan intrinsic safe Uniwire circuit. The MTL5051 isolators don t need protective ground. Or by using MTL5051 and zener barrier PEPPERL & FUCHS Z961 to reduce EX data signals from MTL5051 to fit opto output at communication controller. Zener barrier: The intrinsic safety does not depend on the earth connections on the Zener barrier. Therefore it s not needed to connect the earth terminals on the Zener barrier. Keep the intrinsic safe terminals at MTL5010, converter and Uniwire terminals away from other not safe signals. A creepage distance of 50mm is adequate. Placement in safe area only! 3.3 Installation, inspection and maintenance in hazardous environment Repair of the unit and replacement of components must be done by Flonidan only. For Installation, inspection and maintenance it s recommended to follow the standards: EN Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres Part 14. Electrical installations in hazardous area (other than mines). EN Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres Part 17. Inspection and maintenance of electrical installations in hazardous area (other than mines). It s also recommended to follow the guidelines in DS-Håndbog 144. Page 6 of 8
