A PLC Connector Kit (Part Number ) is supplied with the unit. 3.2 OPERATION The Controller Module provides the controls for producing liquid flow via a positive displacement pumping mechanism. The systems utilize solid-state electronics, stepping motor drives, and precision machined ceramic pump heads. These components combine to provide exceptional accuracy and precision, high reliability, and low maintenance. IVEK units have custom designed stepping motors and pumps sized to the specific dispensing application to provide the proper torque and speed Control All operational parameters on the Controller Module are programmed through the touchscreen using an RS-232 interface to the Controller Module. Total electronic control allows for effortless, exacting calibration and full accountability of cumulative volumes dispensed. Software contained in the Controller Module's Master Plug-In allows configuration and operation on a system-wide or individual channel basis. NOTE Parameters are stored in the Touchscreen Memory. Changing a Channel Plug-In in the Controller Module will not change parameter settings. All volume and rate commands for the Controller Module use microliters or microliters per second Touchscreen The touchscreen provides an operator interface to all operating parameters in the Controller Module. New values can be entered and current values displayed for all the functions of the system. The touchscreen contains eleven different operator interface screens with each providing information to the operator. Start and Stop buttons appear on two screens for starting and stopping the system. Configurations A configuration is a collection of the operating parameters required to operate the system. The operating parameters include volume, rate, direction and drawback. For each configuration, the parameters are stored in the configuration database. NOTE All channels use the same value for a given parameter. Buttons A button initiates a command being sent to the IVEK Multispense 2000 Controller Module. The "Start" and "Stop" area in the Main screen (Figure 3.10) are examples of buttons. Boxes A box looks identical to a button, but provides information only. 22 Page 3-22 MULTISPENSE 2000 W/TOUCHSCREEN CONTROLLER MODULE Dispense Mode - When the Controller Module is properly configured for Dispense mode, all channels are triggered at the transition when a signal is applied to the system trigger. If a channel is disabled, faulted, requires a reference, that channel is not triggered. (see section ) Meter Mode - When the Controller Module is properly configured for Meter mode, all channels are triggered as long as a signal is applied to the system trigger (until the pump chamber empties). If a channel is disabled, faulted, requires a reference, that channel is not triggered. (see section ) System Ready Out - The 'System Ready Out' signal indicates the active/idle state of the Controller Module. All channels must be ready for this output to be "true". This output is false if any channel is not 'ready'. The Params A screen "READY OUT CONFIG" button (refer to section ) is used to define ready for both the system ready and optional independent channel ready outputs. System Fault Out - The 'System Fault Out' signal indicates that a fault has been detected in the operation of an Motor/ Base Module. This output is complemented, i.e., the output is true when no fault exists on any channel, and is false when one or more channels are faulted. System Load Required Out - The 'System Load Required Out' signal indicates if any channel requires a load cycle. This output is 'true' when no enabled channels require a load. This output is complemented i.e., the output is false if any enabled channel requires a load or is in the process of loading (negative true logic) Signal Levels All signals are optically isolated. The power for all signals is provided by the customer s equipment. All inputs accept a 24 VDC signal and require 20 ma. All outputs conduct when the signal is true and do not conduct when the signal is false (see FAULT OUT). Outputs can switch a signal of up to 24 VDC and 50 ma. The output consists of the emitter and collector connections to an IC opto-isolator Connections All connections are through a 9-pin circular plastic connector, with the mating connector and pins supplied with the unit. The connector on the Controller Module is an AMP CPC Series The connector has the pin layout as shown in Table 3.1. Table 3.1 PLC Interface PIN SIGNAL PIN SIGNAL 1 TRIGGER IN + 6 FAULT OUT - 2 TRIGGER IN - 7 LOAD REQ + 3 READY OUT + 8 LOAD REQ - 4 READY OUT - 9 not used 5 FAULT OUT Operating Modes There are several different modes of operation which provide the Controller Module with its vast functional flexibility. Volume commands for the Multispense 2000 use microliters. Rate commands are in microliters per second Prime Prime mode produces a continuous cycle to pump fluid in one direction. The current setting for the liquid direction determines the direction of the fluid flow. The operating mode and liquid direction setting can be viewed in the Main screen (Figure 3.10). Pumping is started using the "START" button in the Main or Volume & Rate screens (Figures 3.9 or 3.11). The pumping will continue until the "STOP" Button is pressed or until the maximum time set with the "PRIME DURATION" button in the Params A screen (Figure 3.13) is reached. The time-out insures a communications problem won t result in the pumps operating forever. Prime is used to fill the system with fluid in preparation for actual operation, empty the system of fluid, and flush the system for cleaning. The flow rate for priming is set in the Volume & Rate screen (Figure 3.11) and is separate from the Dispense and Meter rate. Generate a new configuration if the Priming parameters will remain constant. Volume pumped during prime operation does not accumulate on the totalizer viewed in the Params A screen (Figure 3.13) Dispense Dispense mode is used to deliver a specific volume of fluid at a specific rate. The current setting for the liquid direction determines the direction of the fluid flow. The operating mode and liquid direction setting can be viewed in the Main screen (Figure 3.10). Pumping can be started "START" button in the Main or Volume & Rate screens (Figures 3.10 or 3.11). The dispense cycle will continue until the volume set using the "VOLUME Strokes button in the Volume & Rate screen P03L008K IVEK Corp. 10 April, 2013

MULTISPENSE 2000 W/TOUCHSCREEN CONTROLLER MODULE Page 3-23 (Figure 3.11) has been delivered, unless the "STOP" button is pressed. The flow rate and volume for dispensing are set in the Volume & Rate screen (Figure 3.11) and is separate from the Prime rate. Generate a new configuration if the Dispense parameters will remain constant. Volume pumped during dispense operation accumulates on the totalizer which is viewed Params A screen (Figure 3.13) Meter Meter mode is used to deliver fluid at a specific rate for a period of time determined by hardwired input signals or through the Touchscreen. The operating mode and liquid direction setting can be viewed in the Main screen (Figure 3.10). The most accurate and repeatable method to control metering operation uses the hardwired inputs. Pumping will start when the hardwired signal is present and will stop when the hardwired signal stops. Pumping can also be operated with the "START" and "STOP" buttons in the Main or Volume & Rate screens (Figures 3.10 or 3.11). In meter mode, the pump will stop as soon as possible without regard to the reference position of the pump. If switching from Meter to Dispense mode, the first dispense must be wasted. This will align the pump to the reference position. The flow rate and metering is set in the Volume & Rate screen (Figure 3.11) and is separate from the Prime rate. Generate a new configuration if the Meter parameters will remain constant. Volume pumped during dispense operation accumulates on the totalizer which is viewed Params A screen (Figure 3.13). Volume is limited to the available volume in the pump chamber Bubble Clear Bubble clear mode is a sequence of volume displacement and valving used to dislodge air bubbles in the pump chamber and move them out through the discharge port. This is used when initially priming the system to aid in eliminating air bubbles which have a detrimental effect on accuracy and repeatability. The bubble clear cycle can only be operated with the "START" and "STOP" buttons in the Main or Volume & Rate screens (Figures 3.10 or 3.11). Bubble Clear cannot be started with the PLC inputs. If the Load parameter is set to Load Empty or Load Every, a load cycle will automatically be initiated at the end of a bubble clear cycle. The flow rate for Bubble Clear is set in the Volume & Rate screen (Figure 3.11) using the PRIMING RATE button and is separate from the Dispense and Meter rate. Generate a new configuration if the Bubble Clear parameters will remain constant Other Operating Sequences Reference - Under certain conditions the controller may require a reference cycle when a fault occurs because it does not sense the rotary position of the piston. When the "CLEAR AND REFERENCE" or "REF ALL" buttons (Figure 3.15) are pressed, the piston will find the rotary home and stop at this position. A reference cycle may be required after any fault before a command resulting in motion of the pump is accepted. Drawback - Drawback is a controlled reverse flow at the end of a dispense or meter operation to improve volume repeatability when stringy fluids are being dispensed. If no drawback is required, the drawback volume is simply set to 0. The Drawback settings are done in the Drawback screen (Figure 3.12). When drawback is used, the "VOLUME" button specifies the net fluid displaced, the actual forward motion is the sum of the specified dispense volume and the drawback volume. The flow rate during drawback as well as the dwell (time between the forward and reverse portions of the cycle) are specified with the "DRAWBACK RATE" and "DRAW- BACK DWELL" buttons respectively. Load - The load cycle is used to refill the pumping chamber with fluid after dispensing or metering. The piston will valve to the inlet port, fill the pump chamber with fluid, and valve back to the discharge port. The system can be configured to start a load cycle on either of three conditions; empty, every or manual. When the system is configured for load empty, a load cycle will start when the pump is idle and the remaining volume in the pump chamber is less than the volume required for the next dispense. When the system is configured for load every, a load cycle will start at the completion of every dispense or meter operation. When the system is configured for 'load manual', a load cycle will only be initiated when the "LOAD ALL" button in the Volume And Rate screen is pressed. 10 April, 2013 IVEK Corp. P03L008K

Page 3-24 MULTISPENSE 2000 W/TOUCHSCREEN CONTROLLER MODULE Operating Parameters Status Information Parameters are divided into a number of categories. This section provides a description of each command in the parameter that best fits its description Pump Control The following parameters control the specific operation of the Motor/Base Module. All of the following parameters are set for the individual channel of each Motor/Base Module. The channels can have the same or different values for each parameter. Rate For Dispense And Meter Operation - One parameter command is used to control the fluid flow rate for both dispense and meter mode. A two parameter version of the rate command is available to allow changes in the rate to take effect while the Motor/Base Module is in motion. Dispense Volume - This parameter is used to specify the volume of fluid dispensed during dispense operation. The dispense volume indicates full revolutions of the pump. Rate For Prime, Load, And Bubble Clear Operation - One parameter is used to control the fluid flow rate for prime mode, Bubble Clear mode and during load operations. Direction - The direction of the fluid flow is normally forward, but can be reversed to empty fluid back into the supply. Port - The selected port (normally considered the discharge port) can be changed to allow desired fluid flow direction for different mounting orientations of the Actuator Module. Drawback - Three parameters are specified to describe drawback operation. These are the drawback volume, the fluid flow rate during drawback, and the dwell (time delay) between the dispense and drawback portions of the cycle. Keylock - Operation of the channel in any mode can be controlled using the ENABLE switch on the front panel of the Channel Plug-In. If the ENABLE switch is in the LOCKOUT position, the serial interface command will not be allowed to enable the channel. Time Limit For Prime - In order to prevent the system from continually running if the communications are interrupted during a prime operation, priming is limited to a duration specified by a parameter. Valving Speed - The rotational speed of the piston during valving can be lowered if required to pump highly viscous fluids Faults The response to all commands to a particular channel will respond with fault or warning information if applicable. The fault will be indicated until faults are cleared on that particular channel. A fault present on a channel other than the one addressed by the current command will be indicated, but neither the faulted channel address nor the exact type of fault will be indicated. A fault is the result of improper operation of the Motor/Base Module being detected. Warnings indicate an error in the command, or a condition which requires attention before operation can be initiated. Clear Faults - After a fault, the clear faults command and reference command must be issued prior to any commands which would cause motion in the Motor/Base Module. The clear faults command responds with the identity of the fault being cleared and additional information for certain faults. NOTE After a fault is cleared, a reference MUST BE issued to insure proper operation of the channel that was faulted. The channel that was faulted WILL NOT respond to any motion command until the reference command has successfully. 3.3 INSTALLATION General operating practices provide the best guidelines for locating the components of the system. The Controller Module should be located for ease of use during all phases of operation and maintenance. If both 20-pitch and 40-pitch Actuator Modules are used on a single Controller Module, insure the Actuator Module is connected to the correct Channel Plug-In. Refer to Figure 3.20 for the Channel Plug-In and Chapter 5 for the Actuator (or Chapter 6 if custom) identification information. 3.4 OPTIONS IVEK Corporation offers a variety of options to best meet the customers needs. Following is a list and description of available options for the Controller Module. Refer to the Title Section of this manual for the list of options provided with this system. P03L008K IVEK Corp. 10 April, 2013

MULTISPENSE 2000 W/TOUCHSCREEN CONTROLLER MODULE Page PLC Interface With Independent Channel Ready Ready output logic signals for each of the channels are added to the PLC interface. The ready output signals for each channel permit independent monitoring of the ready versus busy status of an individual channel using a logic signal rather than a command through the serial interface. This section describes the differences between the standard PLC Interface and this option Signal Functions Channel <n> Ready Out - The 'Channel <n> Ready Out' signal indicates the active/idle state of each channel. The "READY OUT CONFIG" button in the Params A screen (Figure 3.13) is used to define ready for both the system ready and channel ready outputs Connections Different connections are used based on the number of channels. See Chapter 4 for information specific to your Controller Module PLC Interface With Independent Channel Trigger Input trigger signals for each channel are added to the PLC interface. The trigger input signals for each channel permit independent triggering of an individual channel using a logic signal rather than a command through the serial interface. This section describes the differences between the standard PLC Interface and this option Signal Functions Channel <n> Trigger In - The 'Channel <n> Trigger In' signal initiates a cycle for each channel. A signal applied to this input will trigger the selected channel if the channel has Dispense or Meter mode selected. A channel will not be triggered if it is in Prime, is faulted, or requires a reference Connections Different connections are used based on the number of channels. See Chapter 4 for information specific to your Controller Module Touchscreen The touchscreen may either be in an enclosure or available for remote mounting. Refer to Figure 3.20 for Enclosure and Touchscreen dimension. The touchscreen weighs approximately 1.86 kilograms (4.1 pounds). Connections between the external touchscreen and Controller Module are with connectors. The addition of the external touchscreen adds an optically isolated serial interface which reduces problems from electrical noise Touchscreen Without Enclosure The system comes with a cable for connecting the Controller Module to the Touchscreen. The cable end with one connector connects to the "TOUCHSCREEN" connector on the rear of the Controller Module. The end with two connectors connects to the COM1 and Power connectors on the Touchscreen. Secure the COM1 connector with #4-40 x 1/8" retaining screws. Secure the Power connector with the retaining screws supplied on the connector. Do not connect to any other connectors on the rear of the Touchscreen. Make sure the ON/OFF slide power switch is in the "ON" position prior to use. The touchscreen must be mounted in a grounded metal enclosure to meet EMC requirements for CE. A grounded metal enclosure may also be required to meet other EMC requirements. For electrical safety considerations, be aware that the power supplied to the touchscreen by the Multispense controller is 24 volts DC. The touchscreen s faceplate is designed to the NEMA 4 (IP65 European standard) rating. You must mount the touchscreen in a similarly rated enclosure and use the supplied gasket to maintain this rating after installation. Route the cable between the touchscreen and the Multispense enclosure away from AC and high-noise DC wiring. You can safely operate the touchscreen at ambient air temperatures from 0 to 45 deg C (32 to 113 deg F). However, the temperature outside a protective enclosure is generally lower than the internal temperature. Thus, if the touchscreen is operating inside an enclosure at temperature levels above its rated ambient temperature, you will need to cool the enclosure. Select an enclosure that is large enough to allow free airflow in and around the touchscreen. You should allow a minimum of a 51mm (2") gap between the enclosure and the top, bottom, and sides of the touchscreen. Also, make sure that the surface of the enclosure on which the touchscreen is mounted is flat and free of raised or depressed areas. 10 April, 2013 IVEK Corp. P03L008K

Page 3-26 MULTISPENSE 2000 W/TOUCHSCREEN CONTROLLER MODULE If the screen still appears to be blank or very dim, and the unit has been in operation continuously for a long time, the backlight bulb may need replacing.
