2 Everything under control SAMSON building automation Ready-configured user interfaces support the user during start-up as well as provide powerful features to control and monitor building facilities. An extensive library of preconfigured graphic elements for building automation helps the user create a user-friendly visualization of the plant in no time at all. SAMSON s object-oriented process visualization software is an open application designed to run under all current versions of Microsoft Windows. Any computer can be turned into a building automation workstation as the software utilizes Ethernet with TCP/IP protocol for communication, which is standard in most companies these days. SAMSON s hardware and software strategy for building automation allows a fast start-up thanks to standardized connections. A high level of security is granted by access control to the operating system as well as to the visualization software together with guaranteed availability by implementing redundant network topologies. These plant schematics are ready-animated, dynamic graphics, depicting, for example, hydraulic systems, heating characteristics, and time schedules. In addition to the plant-specific data, information on plant equipment is also accessible. Thanks to the import function, the user can customize the application by directly integrating existing plant schematics in the user interface. The SAMSON visualization software includes ActiveX container features to enable the user to apply SAMSON ActiveX graphic objects to create graphics. These objects, optimized for building automation, contain all functions, for example, manual/automatic switchover, time data input and characteristics editor.

Extensive report generation functions make maintenance routines easier and protect building facilities and equipment on a long-term basis. In cases of event-triggered alarms, the alarm management alerts operator staff over fax, SMS text messages, or even voice output. Manufacturer-independent interfaces such as OPC, DDE, and SQL make it easier for the user to exchange data with other systems. Possibilities include remote operation and maintenance over standard software, monitoring and control over the Internet as well as communication over BACnet, LON, and MeterBus. The modular design of TROVIS MODULON helps keep track of your investment: only the modules that are currently needed have to be installed. Devices conforming to Modbus RTU can easily be connected at the automation level. As a result, both SAMSON devices (e.g. heating controllers or MeterBus gateways) and devices from partner systems (e.g. refrigerating machines, fire detection systems, etc.) can be connected directly. Communication using BACnet and EIB applications is granted by SAMSON communication servers. Complex building automation control tasks are implemented in preprogrammed software modules. Frequently used plant sections such as precontrol or heat recovery can be selected from an extensive library of ready-made components. This will considerably reduce your software development time and lead to a more rapid start-up. To keep up with the changing challenges posed by the market, yet maintaining proven standards, open hardware interfaces as well as complex function modules were developed based on ActiveX technology. 4

These objects can be embedded in any ActiveX container (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer) and simply assigned to the associated complex function module over OPC. Apart from displaying the set points and actual values, the objects provide a more realistic view of a system and include animations illustrating time data and heating characteristics editor as well as manual/automatic switchover. Such features reduce your need to create graphics to a minimum and make operation and monitoring much more convenient. Thanks to the complex function modules, building automation systems relying on fully graphical user interfaces can be developed and put into operation within very short periods of time. 5

TROVIS 5500 Automation System Heating/district heating controllers Efficient and effective heating is simple these days, for example, with the help of heating and district heating controllers from the TROVIS 5500 Series. Controlling the fl ow temperature depending on the outdoor temperature is a particularly efficient way to heat a building as the exact amount of heat required to keep rooms at the optimal temperature is automatically at hand. Depending on the controller version, this function is used for up to three heating circuits. In cases where more heating circuits need to be controlled, a series of maximum smart controllers and room panels can be connected over a device bus. In this way, the controllers work together to find out the best temperature to heat the whole building around the clock. The Modbus-compatible devices can be integrated into a building automation system to make operation and monitoring a snap. Optionally connectable heat meters keep track of how much heat is being used. A fault in the system will not stay hidden for long controllers connected to modems can notify building staff over SMS text messages in the event of an alarm. 6

Alternatively, the TROVIS-VIEW software allows the devices to be configured at a PC first. Configuration data can also be conveniently downloaded to other controllers using a memory pen. 8 Window to your controller TROVIS-VIEW software for configuration and parameterization The modern heating and district heating controllers from SAMSON are powerful, versatile devices, used for a wide variety of system types and include many options to customize systems. To use this fl exibility to the maximum would involve a lot of time-consuming work. This is where the TROVIS-VIEW software tool can help. Entering the various settings at the PC is even easier than setting the SAMSON controllers over their single rotary pushbutton. The clearly structured interface, based on common standards, means that the user quickly gets to grips with operation. A tree structure allows values to be organized in groups at a few clicks of the mouse. The user can quickly and intuitively make alterations. In particular, the time schedules are much easier to enter over a graphical interface than directly at the controller. Once the settings have been determined at the PC, the configuration data can be easily transferred to the controller with the aid of a handy storage medium or, alternatively, over a direct connection between the PC and the controller. The user benefits from the software even without the controller at hand; the device can be configured on a PC at a different location, for example, at the office, and quickly set on site. The data management integrated in the software allows all settings to be saved and used as the basis for configuring similar systems as well as a backup. TROVIS-VIEW is not just designed as a tool for heating controllers: the versatility of SAMSON s state-of-the-art electric actuators is best kept in control with the software. The software puts to use the assorted functionality of the devices by using individual modules, incorporating the specific features for each type of device. In this way, the TROVIS-VIEW platform guarantees a user-friendly, uniform operation. 8

10 Compact and versatile Combined Regulators with Type 5757 Actuator Hot water at a constant temperature straight out of the tap is taken for granted these days. The SAMSON temperature control designed for application in instantaneous water heating systems helps to achieve this level of comfort. This combination is specially designed for installation in small to medium-sized buildings connected to a district heating or local heat supply network. The fast responding Pt 000 sensor and the short transit time required by the actuator ensure that the hot water immediately has the right temperature. A fl ow switch or fl ow rate meter can be optionally connected to quickly recognize when water is being tapped, which improves the control results even further. An additional binary input enables the hot water fl ow to be interrupted instantly. Alternatively, it is possible to use this input to change between two internally saved set points. For example, a higher temperature set point can be used for thermal disinfection. Control parameters for the temperature control can be conveniently entered over the TROVIS- VIEW Operator Interface software. A memory pen also allows data to be transferred quickly to other devices. 0

When fitted to pipes, the sensors are attached using straps or when installed in pipes in thermowells. Platinum precision resistance elements are often used for temperature sensors These sensors offer excellent accuracy over a wide temperature range from 50 C to +80 C. Various sensor versions made of plastic, available in degrees of protection IP 0 to IP 65, enable varying measurement applications to be covered. A selection of lengths of connecting cable are available for immersion sensors fitted in pipelines. As standard, a Pt 000 element with Class B accuracy according to DIN EN 6075 specifications is installed in two-wire circuits. Three-wire connection systems can be used to connect the sensor to the signal processing device.

13 The right mix Type 67 Valve with Jet Pump with flanged or screwed ends M p H When sized properly, a mixing valve with pumping function can substitute in many cases a pump/ valve combination. p h In simplified terms, the jet pump uses the differential pressure from the supply network as the pumping energy for the domestic installation. The temperature is controlled by mixing water from the return pipe with water from the supply pipe. Thanks to many years experience at SAMSON, it is possible to quickly check using computer-based sizing calculations whether the use of a control valve with jet pump is appropriate or not. Valves can be fitted with either electric or pneumatic actuators. When combined with a thermostat, the jet pump functions without the need for auxiliary energy. Flanged valves with jet pumps have been included in the SAMSON product range for decades. Now a cost-effective series with screwed end connections has been added to the program.

14 A suitable version for every application Regulators for local heat supply networks New flanged versions for Series 44 to 49 Self-operated Regulators The cost-effective Series N Regulators were designed especially for local heat supply networks. The Series N includes temperature, differential pressure, fl ow, and fl ow limitation regulators as well as control valves with electric actuators or electric actuators combined with the regulators. The red brass valve bodies of these regulators have screwed end connections and are only available in the DN 5 size. These low-priced, highquality regulators help you achieve good control results. The Series 44 to 49 of self-operated regulators for controlling differential pressure, fl ow or for limiting fl ow were until now only available with screwed end connections. The regulators in sizes DN, 40, and 50 are now available with fl anged valve bodies made of spheroidal graphite iron. These regulators have 5 % higher Kvs values and two sealing faces less than the conventional red brass version with screwed-on fl anges. 4

15 A valve on autopilot Pilot-controlled Type 4 Regulator The pilot-controlled regulator is versatile and can be used for liquids up to 50 C and non-fl ammable gases up to 80 C. The nominal size range extends from DN 65 to DN 50. A large main valve is pilot-controlled by at least one pilot valve in the bypass to keep the controlled variable constant. The function is determined by the pilot valve design: differential pressure regulator (closing or opening), temperature regulator, fl ow and/or differential pressure regulator as well as valves fitted with an electric actuator operated over an on/off signal, optionally with fail-safe action. The optimized design enables the remaining pressure drop to be kept to a minimum and improves the split-range action of the pilot valve. The installation on site is particularly easy as an almost ready-configured mounting kit facilitates fast mounting. All the regulators meet the requirements stipulated by the German District Heating Association (AGFW) for components in domestic installations as per DIN standard. 5
