Functional description PROTOTYPING MODULE OVERVIEW This breadboard module is for prototyping module circuits (for example sensors, radio modules) and connecting them to the Sensor Hub.

3 Functional description PROTOTYPING MODULE OVERVIEW This breadboard module is for prototyping module circuits (for example sensors, radio modules) and connecting them to the Sensor Hub. Discrete circuits can be soldered to the board and interconnected with blue wires. It plugs into Sensor Hub and provides access to power, analog, GPIO s, and serial interfaces of Sensor Hub. 5 Installation Information The Sensor Hub headers are not soldered in by default. Before soldering them in, make sure the headers are inserted with the right orientation. Figure 3: PCB with unsoldered headers Figure 4: Header orientation for soldering 5

6 Interfaces PIN DESCRIPTIONS Sensor Hub socket interfaces pins Pin Description VDD Power input or output at nominal 3.3V GND V5V VSBAT PAD[0:1] PAD[2:3] PAD[4:5] COMM nreset I2C-SCL I2C-SDA Reserved Power ground Power input or output at nominal 5V. 5V input is only available if supplied from VIN, USB, or any other module that supports it Power connection for Secondary (rechargeable) Battery. Can be output or input, depending on the required functionality (ie. charging circuit or battery holder, respectively) Multipurpose analog input or digital input-output GPIO or serial interface pins Multipurpose digital-only GPIO or serial interface pins (in combination with PAD0 and PAD1) Digital only GPIO pin. Can also act as MCU interrupt signal or PWM output Digital common signal connected to MCU GPIO pin and shared among all module sockets. GPIO input or output functionality is defined by an application Sensor Hub MCU Reset control or monitor (output or input, respectively). Active LOW System I2C/TWI clock line. System I2C/TWI data line. Reserved use. Do not connect 6

7 Notes: 1. Input/output reference is with respect to the Module. Input means that the Sensor Hub drives the pin. 2. VDD must not exceed 3.8V 3. All PAD signals (PAD[1:5]) must be below VDD+0.3V and above GND-0.3V 4. I2C signals include pull-up resistors on Sensor Hub, so they must be open-drain - only pulled to GND, never driven to VDD. 5. I2C signals on different connectors are tied together, so the I2C/TWI addresses must be unique across all devices attached to Sensor Hub. Otherwise, there will be bus contentions and failed operation. 6. PAD signal functionality can be defined in Sensor Hub firmware, according to Table 1 constraints.
