3 PCI Configuration Setup for First-Time FAX Card Installation for NVM 2000 Series (P/N 17510K S/N or lower) READ THIS FIRST! Failure to perform PCI CONFIGURATION SETUP when you install a FAX card can cause an IRQ conflict between the FAX card and the video card and prevent the system from booting up completely. Follow the steps below to perform PCI CONFIGURATION for all Nitsuko-supplied FAX cards. These instructions are for NVM 2000 Series (Part Number 17510K-486) units that have a Serial Number of or lower. 1. When you first start NVM, look to see if the ENERGY/Star logo appears in the upper right corner of your monitor. If you see the logo, immediately press the Delete key to display the CMOS SETUP UTILITY menu. If the logo does not appear, you do not have to perform PCI CONFIGURATION. 1. From the CMOS SETUP UTILITY menu, select PCI CONFIGURATION SETUP and press Enter. The system displays the PCI CONFIGURATON SETUP screen. 3

4 3. Make sure that the options in the PCI CONFIGURATION SETUP screen match those shown below. 4. To change an option, use the Arrow keys to select it. Press Page Up or Page Down to change the setting for the option. 5. When you are done with the PCI CONFIGURATION SETUP screen, press Escape to return to the CMOS SETUP UTILITY menu. 6. Press F10 to Save & Exit from the CMOS SETUP UTILITY menu. 7. NVM continues to boot up. If you installed the FAX card(s) and Disk(s) correctly, the system will boot up properly and be ready for programming. After you perform PCI CONFIGURATION, be sure to update the NVM 2000 SYSTEM SETUP RECOVERY disk that came with your system with the new settings. See Copy the New CMOS Settings to the Recovery Disk below for instructions. Copy the New CMOS Settings to the Recovery Disk The NVM 2000 Series comes with a SYSTEM SETUP RECOVERY disk that you can use to restore the NVM hardware settings if you see an error message instead of the main menu when you power on the system. (The disk should be taped to the bottom of the NVM 2000 Series cabinet.) Follow the steps below to copy the new PCI CONFIGURATION to the recovery disk. 1. Shut down the system. If you use the Line Editor, type SD and press Enter. If you use the Full Screen Editor, select the Exit menu, then select Shut Down Mail System. Type Y when NVM asks if you are sure you want to shut down the system. NVM displays a prompt that tells you how to restart the system. 2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart the system. You can also press the Reset button or turn the power off and on. 4

5 3. When you see the prompt, Starting MS-DOS, immediately press the F5 key to go to the DOS C:\ prompt. You see the prompt, MS-DOS is bypassing your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files, and then you see the MS-DOS copyright notice and the C:\ prompt. 4. Insert the SYSTEM SETUP RECOVERY disk in the A: drive of the NVM computer. Make sure the disk is not write-protected; slide the tab in the corner of the disk down to turn off write protection. (The square hole in the disk should be closed.) 5. At the C:\ prompt, type A: and press Enter to switch to the A:\ drive. 6. At the A:\ prompt, type CMOS GET and press Enter. The CMOS GET utility displays the prompt, Reading CMOS data into file mos.dat. When the utility has finished copying the data, it displays the prompt, XXX bytes were written to mos.dat. 7. Type C: and press Enter to switch back to the C:\ drive. 8. Remove the SYSTEM SETUP RECOVERY disk from the A:\ drive. Slide the tab in the corner of the disk up to write protect it. (The square hole in the disk should be open.) Store the disk in a safe place; you may want to tape it to the bottom of the NVM 2000 cabinet. 9. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart NVM. 5
