Chapter 3 Operation Overview This chapter describes how to operate the DVSD / DVSE6800+ using card-edge controls only. See the following Leitch documents for information on how to operate this product remotely: +Pilot Lite User Manual for serial control interface CCS Navigator, Pilot, CoPilot, or RCP-CCS-1U Remote Control Panel Installation and Operation Manual for Ethernet control interface The following topics are discussed in this chapter: Changing Parameter Settings on page 22 LEDs and Alarms on page 23 Operating Notes on page 19 Setting Remotely-Controlled Parameters on page 21 Understanding Jumper Controls on page 16 DVSD / DVSE6800+ Installation and Operation Manual 15

Chapter 3: Operation Understanding Jumper Controls Introducing Jumper Control Types Figure 3-1. Location of the Jumper Sets and Status Indicators P1 Jumpers Note Both DVSD6800+ and DVSE6800+ modules use the P1 jumper set. You can use the P1 jumper set to select the following items: SDO1 and SDO2 Loss of signal switch (LOS) Remote control SDO1 / SDO2 SDO1 and SDO2 allow you to select where to direct output. By using SDO1 and SDO2, you can configure the module to operate as either 1 8 (SDO1) or dual 1 4 (SDO2). When the shunt is installed on the jumper the noted output is fed from input 2. When SDO1 is selected, the distribution amplifier functions as a 1 8 with all 8 outputs fed from input 1. LOS enabled will allow input 2 to serve as a backup to input 1. When SDO2 is selected, the distribution amplifier functions as a dual 1 4 with each input driving 4 outputs. Input 2 can be used in conjunction with the LOS enabled to provide a backup input. 16 DVSD / DVSE6800+ Installation and Operation Manual

Chapter 3: Operation Loss of Signal Switch Remote Control P2 / P3 Jumpers Note DVSD6800+ modules do not use the P2 and P3 jumper sets. When the Loss of Signal (on input 1) switch is enabled, the module automatically switches the output MUX to select input 2 when input 1 has lost its input signal. When the input 1 signal returns, the output mux will return input 1 to its previous output state. When the jumper is set to the remote position, the reclocker setting is handled by +Pilot Lite only. You may select the three setting modes (automatic, manual, and bypass) remotely via +Pilot Lite. You can use the P2 (for input 1 rate control) or P3 (for input 2 rate control) jumper on the DVSE6800+ to select local control reclock setting operation mode. Figure 3-1 on page 16 illustrates the location of these jumpers. Local Control Note Leitch recommends that you use the available software control options (serial / local or Ethernet / remote) to aid in viewing, setting, and confirming parameter values. In the local control reclock setting operation mode, all of the settings data status information appears on the +Pilot Lite control screen; however, you cannot change any setting in this mode via +Pilot Lite. To control the reclocking setting mode via +Pilot Lite, set the jumper to the remote control reclock setting operation mode. For local control, P2 / P3 is used to determine reclocking mode: Table 3-1. P2 / P3 Local Control Reclock Modes Reclock Mode AUTO Description Automatically detects the rate 143 / 19.4 Forces channel to lock to a 143 Mb / s or a 19.4 Mb / s signal Set the jumper on the pin that allows the reclocker to handle 143 Mb / s or 19.4 Mb / s data only If the reclocking is successful, the 143 Mb / s 19.4 Mb / s LED will be green, and the Reclock status LED indicator next to HI (for 143 Mb / s) or next to LO (for 19.4 Mb / s) will be green If the reclocking is not successful, the 143 Mb / s 19.4 Mb / s LED will be off, the Reclock status LED indicator will be off, and un-reclocked data will be present at output DVSD / DVSE6800+ Installation and Operation Manual 17

Chapter 3: Operation Understanding Parameter Types Adjustable Parameters Read-Only Parameters Operating Notes Most DVSD / DVSE6800+ parameters are adjustable, and can be set using either card-edge controls (see Introducing Jumper Control Types on page 16) or a software application. However, there are some parameters that are considered read-only and cannot be changed. Indicated by the abbreviation [RO], these parameters provide status and feedback information only. Two types of adjustable parameters can be changed using the card-edge controls: Numerical parameters which require you to select a value within a numerical range Selectable parameters which require you to select a specific option Both numerical and selectable parameter changes are immediate. Use the available software controls (serial/ local or Ethernet / remote network) to view and monitor parameter selections. Many of the read-only parameters are also represented by LEDs on the front of the module s card edge. See Figure 3-1 on page 16 for the location of these LEDs. When setting the control parameters on the DVSD / DVSE6800+, observe the following: When you change a parameter, the effect is immediate. However, the module requires up to 20 seconds to save the latest change. After 20 seconds, the new settings are saved and will be restored if the module loses power and must be restarted. When setting the control parameters on the DVSE6800+, observe the following: DVSD / DVSE6800+ Installation and Operation Manual 19

Chapter 3: Operation When the module is set to remote control, the reclocking mode is controlled by the CCS control software application. When the module powers up with remote selected, the reclocking mode is set to the last known value. When the module is set to local control, the reclocking mode is controlled by adjusting the card-edge jumper to the appropriate setting. Reclocking mode selections are reflected in the CCS control software application. Any remote attempts to adjust the reclocking mode will have no effect. If a card-edge jumper is not installed the reclocking mode is set to Auto. Modules with unused inputs should have the input terminated. Not doing so may cause erroneous readings of a valid input signal that can be induced from adjacent slots. 20 DVSD / DVSE6800+ Installation and Operation Manual
