2 Description Features The AN-300 Structured Wiring Distribution panel is a cost effective solution for distributing telephone, data and video signals. The compact design of the AN-300 makes it perfect for installations where space is limited, such as apartments, condos or even single family homes. Telephone Distribution Distributes 4 incoming voice or data lines to 8 locations Built in RJ31X port provides quick connection to a security system 110 style punch down block for fast terminations Video Distribution Distributes 1 incoming video signal to 8 locations Built-in 12dB bi-directional amplifier 2 pass through connections for Satellite TV distribution Dimensions H 4.5 x W 10 x D 3.9 Installation Precautions Never install or work with telephone wiring during a lightning storm. Never install telephone jacks in wet location unless the jack is specifically designed for use in wet locations. Have the Electrician connect the AC outlet to branch circuit power. The connection should be in accordance with the National Electrical Code, Articles 110, 250 and 300. Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface or D-marcation point. Installing The AN-300 The AN-300 consists of three components. The Installation can, the distribution plate and the cover. When deciding where to install the AN-300, keep the following criteria in mind. Climate controlled environment Low traffic area Centrally located to keep wire runs as uniform in length as possible 110 volt power is available Avoid areas that may get to cold or to hot, such as the garage or attic. The garage can also be a dusty and dirty place. Excessive dust particles can pop solder traces on the telephone PC board and disable telephone services FutureSmart Page 1

3 Mounting the Install Can Flush Mount FutureSmart designed the install can so that it could be mounted either vertically or horizontally. FutureSmart suggest you mount the install can vertically. You will notice that the 2 longer sides of the install can have raised bumps. These bumps are ½ from the front of the installation can. If you install the can with the bumps flush to the front of the stud, it will allow you to quickly install the can and leave the appropriate amount of space for the sheet rock. Use two ¾ wood screws to secure the can to the stud. Surface Mount The AN-300 installation can has two holes in the back that can be used for surface mounting. Use two ¾ wood screws to secure the can to a wood surface, or ¾ concrete screws for mounting the can to a cement surface. Connecting Incoming TV Signal to the Distribution Plate The incoming coax signal (cable TV or Antenna) is connected to the input on the rear of the distribution plate. (See Figure1) This will distribute the video signal to all eight outputs on the front side of the Module. There are also two Aux. Pass thru ports that can be used to pass satellite TV signal to the satellite receivers. Aux Pass Thru Ports Incoming Coax Signal DC Power In Figure # 1 Connecting Power to the Amplified Splitter Providing power to the amplified coax splitter is done by using a RG-6 coax patch cord to connect from the DC adapter (provided) to the DC input on the rear of the distribution plate. Be sure to built the RG-6 patch cord long enough to reach from the panel to the 110 V power outlet. If the AN-300 has been mounted on a wall that will be sheet rocked, you should request that a 110 V power outlet be installed directly below the panel. Run the RG-6 coax patch cord behind the sheetrock and down to the power receptacle. Drill a hole next to the power receptacle large enough for the coax patch cord to loop through. Connect the end of the RG-6 coax patch cord to the DC adapter and plug the adapter into the power outlet. Connecting Incoming Telephone Service to the Distribution Plate Page 2 FutureSmart

4 The incoming telephone service is connected to the 110 style punch down block on the rear of the distribution plate. To properly terminate the twisted pair wiring, follow these procedures. 1. Trim back the outer jacket of the twisted pair cable approximately ¾. Separate the pairs from each other but don t untwist. You will notice that there are four pairs of wires. These pairs of wire are coordinated by color (solid blue and white with a blue stripe, solid orange and white with an orange stripe, etc.). You will also notice that the 110 punch down block on the rear of the distribution plate has the same color scheme. While matching the colors, lay the wire pairs out on the block so as to determine that you have removed enough of the outer jacket to terminate the wire. 2. When terminating the individual pairs, it is important that you do not untwist the pairs more than ½ from the point of termination. You connect the incoming telephone service to the rear of the distribution plate by punching down the individual pairs of wire into their color matching slots. The best way to do this is with an Impact Tool. Start with the White/Blue wire and then the Blue wire. (when terminating, the white with colored stripe wire goes in the first slot and the solid color wire goes in the second slot). Be sure that all wires have been pushed into the slot and are making contact with the metal teeth. If the wires are not pushed in far enough, the metal teeth will not penetrate the PVC jacket. See figure # 2 Incoming Telephone Service Figure # 2 Connecting A Security System to the Distribution Plate The AN-300 distribution plate includes an RJ31X port on the rear. This port allows for quick and convenient connection of a security system. To connect a security system, simple use a RJ45 or RJ11 patch cord to connect the security system control board to the port on the rear of the distribution plate. See figure #3. 5 Once you have connected all the incoming services. You can install the distribution plate into the install can. The distribution plate was designed to mount in a specific manner. You will notice that the placement of the stand-offs makes it possible to mount the distribution plate in only one way. If you place the distribution plate in the install can and the holes do not line up for the screws, turn the distribution plate 180 degrees. Use the four screws provided to secure the distribution plate into the install can. Connecting Outgoing TV Runs to Distribution Plate Once the incoming video service is connected to the rear of the distribution plate, and the distribution plate has been installed, you can now connect the coax cables which run from the rooms to the 8 output connections on the front of the distribution plate. See figure #4 8 Outgoing Coax Runs Figure # 4 Connecting Outgoing Telephone Runs to Distribution Plate Once the incoming telephone service has been connected to the rear of the distribution plate, and the distribution plate has been installed, you can connect the twisted pair cables running from the rooms to the 110 style punch down block on the front of the distribution plate. Follow the same procedures as you did for connecting the incoming telephone service to the rear of the distribution plate. Outgoing Telephone Runs 110 Style Punch Down Block Installing The Cover Once installation of the outgoing runs are complete, use the provided screws to install the cover. Page 4 FutureSmart
