2 1. Overview This evaluation board (EM7160) is designed to evaluate the CO 2 sensor module (CDM7160). You can evaluate the CO 2 sensor module CDM7160 and collect data about the module by connecting the USB connector on the evaluation board and that on the PC with the mini B-USB cable. [Evaluation board (EM7160)] [Personal computer (PC)] - Dedicated application CDM FT232R USB driver Mini B-USB cable USB is used for communication between the PC and this board while I2C or UART is used for communication between this board and the CO 2 sensor module (CDM7160). 2. Functions of Pins on the CO 2 Sensor Module (CDM7160) The functions of the pins on the CDM7160 are listed in the table below. 3 3. Configuration and Output of the Evaluation Board (EM7160) 3-1) Configuration (when using I2C communication) Check that SW2, SW3, and SW4 are configured as shown in the photo below. SW2, SW3: I2C side, SW4-1, 2: ON, SW4-3, 4: OFF SW2, SW3: I2C side (Toggle them down in the photo.) SW4-1, -2: ON (Toggle them up in the photo.) SW4-3, -4: OFF (Toggle them down in the photo.) 4 3-3) Connection of CDM7160 and output from the evaluation board Connect the CDM7160 to the connectors (CN1 and CN2) on the evaluation board, matching pin Nos. of the CDM7160 as shown in the photo below. [Output] - ALARM: The ALARM pin becomes High when the CO 2 concentration exceeds 1000 ppm and Low when the concentration drops below 900 ppm. - PWM: The PWM output at 1 khz corresponds to the following CO 2 concentration: CO 2 _ ppm: PWM 0-100% - Voltage OUT: Voltage CO 2 _ ppm: PWM 0-5 V - USB output: The CO 2 concentration data can be collected via USB by the PC.

5 4. How to Install the Dedicated Application and the USB Driver for PC (Note) Do not connect the evaluation board to the PC at this point of time. 4-1) Installing the USB driver 1. Double-click the execution file shown below. (1) 32-bit OS Double-click "dpinst-x86.exe" in the "USB Driver" folder. (2) 64-bit OS Double-click "dpinst-amd64.exe" in the "USB Driver" folder. 2. Select "Agree" to the license agreement and click "Next." 3. When the driver is installed, click the "Finish" button to close the installation screen. 4. Connect the evaluation board to the PC. 5. Check that the driver is recognized. 6. Select "Devices and Printers" from "Start menu" "Control Panel." 7. Right-click the "FT232R USB UART" icon and select "Properties." 8. Click the "Hardware" tab to check the COM port number.

6 4-2) Installing the dedicated application - Create a folder at an arbitrary location on the PC (such as Desktop) and copy the contents in the ConcMeasure folder to the folder you created. 4-3) Installing Framework 3.5 SP1 - Install Framework 3.5 SP1 from the Microsoft website at the following URL: (Japanese version) (English version) 4-4) Uninstalling (removing) the dedicated application Remove the following files from your computer: - ConcMeasure.exe - ConcMeasure.exe.config

How to Use the Evaluation Board You can easily collect data from the CO 2 sensor module (CDM7160) after installing the dedicated application and the driver for USB communication (FT232R-USB) on the PC and connecting the PC and this evaluation board with the mini B-USB cable. 5-1) About the dedicated application and driver - Supported OS: Although operation has been confirmed on the following OS, this does not mean that operation is guaranteed. Windows XP (Japanese version) Windows 7 (English and Japanese versions) Windows 8 (Japanese version) - Dedicated application: Install the dedicated application from the attached CD-ROM. - Driver for USB communication (FT232R): Install the driver from the attached CD-ROM. (Install.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 on the PC if it is not yet installed.) 5-2) How to collect data (1) Set the sensor module (CDM7160) to the evaluation board. (2) Connect the PC and the evaluation board with the mini B-USB cable. (3) Turn on SW1 (power switch) on the evaluation board. (4) Startup of dedicated application: After installation, double-click the following icon to start the application. ON OFF <Startup screen> ConcMeasure.exe SW1 (power switch) (5) Specify the COM port number.

8 Specify the number of the COM port which the evaluation board is connected to in "COM No." at the upper right of the screen. *For how to check this item, refer to Steps 6 to 8 in 4-1). (6) Specify the record interval (Save Interval) Select the record interval to save measurement data in the CSV format from 2 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, and 60 minutes in "Save Interval" at the upper right of the screen. *Display of the chart on the screen (measurement interval) is fixed to 2 seconds. (7) Select UART or I2C communication according to the configuration of the evaluation board. (8) Specify the storage destination (Save Folder) You can change the storage destination for measurement data (CSV format file) by clicking the [Change] button before CO 2 concentration measurement starts. (9) Specify the storage file name (Save File Name) The storage file name is automatically saved combining the date ( ) and a sequential number (-1) (e.g. "Result_ csv). To change the storage file name, refer to 5-3). (10) Enter free-form text. You can enter information about measurement to record it in the header section in the CSV file. (11) Start measurement. - Click the [Start] button to start measuring the CO 2 concentration and display it in the chart. - The measurement interval is 2 seconds. The screen displays the latest data to data before about 17 minutes. - Measurement data is recorded in the CSV format on the PC during measurement. (For the storage destination, refer to 5-3).) (12) End measurement. Click the [Stop] button to end measurement. (Measurement data is saved in the CSV format). * Turn the power off before handling (removing or inserting) the sensor module (CDM7160).

9 5-3) Storage file (1) Measurement data is saved in a CSV file in the storage destination document folder. The reference location of document folder is as follows. - Windows 7: Start menu Document - Windows 8: Right-click the Start button. Explorer Document in the folder area (2) You can change the storage destination with the following procedure while the CO 2 concentration is not measured. - Folder name: Use the Change button next to Save Folder. - File name: Directly enter a new name in the text box next to File Name. The actually saved file name is displayed in the Save File Name text box area. "_YYYYMMDD-N.csv" is automatically added to the file name. - YYYY: Four-digit year on the PC clock (Western calendar format) - MM: Two-digit month on the PC clock - DD: Two-digit day on the PC clock - N: Sequential number beginning with 1 * One file can contain data for about 24 hours. After this time is exceeded, data is saved in a different file with N incremented by 1. (3) The CSV file can be freely processed using spreadsheet software such as EXCEL. 10 Rows 10 and below, Column A: Sequential sampling Nos. starting with 0 are recorded for measured data. Column B: Measured CO 2 concentration (in ppm) is sequentially recorded. [Figure 2] When drawing a CO 2 concentration chart in Excel by using a CSV file saved at intervals of 30s - The elapsed time can be checked by multiplying the number in Column A by 30 ( 30). - Use Column B as is since this column shows the CO 2 concentration.

Notes 6-1) Connection with the evaluation board - Be sure to connect the CDM7160 before connecting the evaluation board to the PC. - Do not remove the CDM7160 from the evaluation board while the evaluation board is connected to the PC. - Do not remove the connection cable between the evaluation board and the PC while the dedicated application is measuring CO 2 concentration. 6-2) Error display in the dedicated application If an error message appears, check the points below. (Note that the details of message differ depending on where it appears.) - Check that the configuration of the COM port is correct. The Device Manager should display the COM port as "FT232R USB UART." - Check that the CDM7160 is properly connected to the evaluation board. *Note that this evaluation board is just a sample for evaluation.
