2 Introduction The Square D Company is a supplier of electrical distribution, industrial control, and automation products, systems, and services. Tracer Summit building management system connects to the Modbus RTU port of Square D Altivar 58 (ATV58) and Altivar 66 (ATV66) adjustable speed drive controllers using a BACnet /Modbus RTU bridge. The Tracer Summit operator workstation and building control unit (BCU) can monitor and control the present value of Square D unit controller data. 3 Application Square D unit controllers connect to a Sierra Monitor 8051 communications bridge via EIA-485. Up to 32 drives can be daisy-chained on a single EIA-485 link to the bridge. The Sierra Monitor bridge can be connected to a Trane Tracer Summit BACnet Ethernet or ARCNET network. A Sierra Monitor Modbus RTU/BACnet bridge maps Modbus RTU data registers from the Altivar controllers into BACnet objects. A Tracer Summit workstation or BCU can monitor and control Square D points by reading the status of the BACnet objects in the bridge. When a Tracer Summit workstation comes online, it polls the Sierra Monitor bridge and dynamically adds BACnet analog input, binary input, analog output, and binary output objects to the Tracer Summit workstation database. These points can be added to graphics, used in schedules and reports, or included in custom programming language (CPL) routines just like other Tracer Summit input/output objects. The points can be monitored and controlled (on/off), but they cannot be edited, such as changing an object name or engineering units. BAS-PRC004-EN 3

4 Altivar 58 and Altivar 66 adjustable speed drives Altivar 58 drive The Altivar 58 has two methods of connecting to a Modbus RTU/EIA-485 network. If the drive does not have a keypad, the Altivar 58 keypad port (a 9-pin SUB-D connector) can be used to link the Altivar 58 to an EIA-485 network. The keypad port has a fixed communication rate of 19,200 baud, no parity, eight data bits, and one stop and one start bit. Set the Altivar 58 network address through the drive keypad by modifying the value of parameter Add in Menu 4. For more information, see the instruction bulletin (VVDED397047US) supplied with the keypad. Use the sample network wiring diagram shown below to complete the wire connections (Figure 1). For more detail, see the Square D instruction bulletin (VVDED397057US) that can be obtained from the technical library at If the keypad is occupying the port, the Altivar 58 can be connected to an EIA-485 network using the Modbus/ JBUS option card (Square D part number VW3A58303U). This option card supports 4,800; 9,600; and 19,200 baud communications and all parity options. These parameters are modified via the keypad in Menu 8. The network address is set by switches on the option card. The Sierra Monitor gateway should be wired to the Altivar 58 using DB9 connectors as shown in Figure 1. Wiring interfaces must be ordered separately from another source, such as Phoenix Contact or Wago. Contact your local Square D distributor to get the necessary interface hardware. 5 Altivar 66 drive The Altivar 66 has a Modbus RTU Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) interface that allows it to communicate to the Sierra Monitor 8051 gateway using EIA-485. The Square D part number for this interface is VW3A66031U. This PCMCIA interface plugs into a Communication Carrier Module (Square D part number VW3A66205) or one of the I/O Extension Modules [Square D part number VW3A66201T (24 Vdc) or VW3A66202T (115 Vac)] on the Altivar 66 drive. The Sierra Monitor gateway should be wired to the Altivar 66 using DB15 wiring interfaces as shown in Figure 2. Wiring interfaces must be ordered separately from another source, such as Phoenix Contact or Wago. Contact your local Square D distributor to get the necessary interface hardware. 7 Additional information Functionality System functions enable status and control, alarm management, scheduling, and trending. Status and control Trane Tracer Summit PC Workstation and Tracer Summit BCU application programs can monitor and control the present value of BACnet objects in the Sierra Monitor bridge. These objects reference the state of Modbus holding registers on Square D Altivar drives. Square D data may be added to Tracer Summit graphics, trends, reports, and more. Alarm management A CPL routine is required to include Square D input points in Tracer Summit alarm management applications. Determine the alarm condition based on local saved values that represent out-of-range conditions. Scheduling Schedule Square D points directly from the Tracer Summit scheduling application. Trending Square D data may be included in Tracer Summit reports and trend logs. Special considerations When setting up a Square D drive interface, keep in mind these special considerations regarding the hardware points, station addressing, scaling, and alarm management. Hardwired points If any hardwired points are connected to the Altivar 66, the I/O Extension module must be used. The I/O Extension module supports a Modbus Communication Carrier module. If no points are hardwired, the Communication Card Kit may be used. (See "Supported devices" for part numbers.) Station addressing Each Modbus RTU device connected to the Sierra Monitor bridge requires a unique station address. The Sierra Monitor bridge is also assigned a BACnet device ID, which must be different than any Modbus station address. Scaling Modbus RTU sends the present value as an unsigned integer. Edit the appropriate scaling factors for each point when mapping Modbus registers to BACnet objects in the Sierra Monitor gateway. (No special scaling is required in Tracer Summit systems.) Alarm management CPL routines are required to include Square D unit controller alarms in Tracer Summit alarm management. Refer to Commissioning Tracer Summit BACnet projects engineering bulletin (BAS-PRB002-EN) for more details. Packed bit Square D uses a single Modbus register (two bytes equals sixteen bits) to represent up to sixteen different binary or fault conditions. The Sierra Monitor gateway is capable of extracting each bit independently and exposing its value to the Tracer Summit system in the form of a BACnet binary input or output. Supported devices The Altivar 58 and Altivar 66 adjustable speed drive controllers are supported. Altivar 58 The interface can be set up via ATV58 keypad port on the drive or via Modbus/ JBUS option card VW3A58303U. Altivar 66 The interface can be set up via EIA-485 with Communication Carrier Module (VW3A66205), Modbus Communication Card Kit (VW3A66301U), and DB15 connector.
