2 Udergroud Automated Distributio (UAD TM) Cotroller ad Motor Mechaism Applicatio The Cleavelad/Price UAD is a simple, depedable cotrol package for itegratig udergroud SF 6 ad vacuum switches of ay maufacturer ito a customer s SCADA or smart grid system. The cotroller is available i submersible models for istallatio withi the switch vault ad models for above groud istallatio. Cotroller desigs that operate switches with a iteral sprig or soleoid to ope ad close, as well as switches that require a exteral motor mechaism, are available. The Cleavelad/Price motor mechaism is a high torque device that is adaptable to ay udergroud switch that requires a exteral motor. Stadard speed ad fast trasfer motor types are offered. The UAD cotroller ca be supplied as a sigle switch cotroller or as a multiple switch cotroller to operate 2-way, 3-way, or 4-way switches. The cotroller ca ope ad close switches ad ca drive the switch to a groud positio whe this optio is required. The UAD may be operated remotely by SCADA, or locally via a selector switch located o the frot pael of above groud cotrollers. A hadheld cotrol pedat is provided for local electrical operatio of vault istalled cotrollers. Auto-trasfer fuctios are also available. Typical above groud cotroller istallatio Atea UAD Cotroller RTU Radio Surge Protectio Power Cable Cotrol Cable AC Cable Switch Effective Battery Maagemet: The key to a depedable automatio system A sigle 12-volt, 33 amp-hour battery cotaied withi the cotroller supplies power to the remote termial uit (RTU), commuicatio device, ad switch actuator (motor or soleoid). A power supply is also provided to accommodate devices that require 24 VDC. A complete temperature compesatig chargig system is provided. The electroic system provides battery overcharge protectio as well as battery testig fuctio. The system regularly self-moitors the battery voltage to provide real-time reportig of battery coditio. With loss of charger power, the battery ca typically operate a switch ad maitai RTU ad commuicatio loads for 24 hours. The battery used i the UAD is a maiteace-free lead acid type that is completely sealed. It has a pressure relief valve that oly opes durig excessive gas buildup. The eclosure is costructed from corrosioresistat alumium alloy ad is powder-coated for additioal durability. The hige ad door hadle are made of stailess steel. The door of the eclosure is fully gasketed to keep moisture out of the eclosure. The eclosure of the padmout ad stachio mout UAD is powdercoated white to provide a surface that reflects the heatig rays of the su, there-by miimizig heat buildup withi the eclosure ad extedig battery life. 4 UAD-V TM Cotroller Watertight Itegrity Buildig Reliability ito a Vault Mouted Switch Cotroller The eviromet i switch vaults is harsh. Vaults regularly fill with water that cotai all sorts of cotamiates. The Cleavelad/Price UAD-V eclosure is desiged specifically to operate i this kid of eviromet. At the ed of the test the motor was still i good operatig coditio ad the iterior of the cotroller was pristie. Hudreds of uit service years have prove the eclosure to be watertight. Each UAD-V udergoes a productio test that verifies that the eclosure is watertight. Idicatio Lights ad Commuicatio Port The UAD-V is supplied with bright LED lights for ope/ closed idicatio, ad remote cotrol eabled ad locked out statuses. A watertight, tamper-proof RJ-45 port with padlockable cover is available for local iterface with the cotroller s RTU. Watertight Wirig Etraces All wirig etraces ito the UAD-V termiate to ecapsulated coectors. Wirig etrace poits are supplied with sealig caps that protect cotacts from cotamiatio should the exteral wires ot be coected. Trust but Verify The UAD-V eclosure is desiged to isure its IP68 ratig. To verify that the uit is watertight, the eclosure has moisture detectio sesors at each iterior bottom corer. A load is applied to the battery every five miutes ad the battery voltage is measured with the battery charger off. A status alarm will idicate low battery voltage. Sice the testig is doe automatically, there is o eed for the user to implemet a commad system to periodically perform a battery test. Automatic Load Discoect Uder the battery loads of the RTU ad commuicatio device, battery voltage will declie whe AC is lost. All loads are dropped whe the threshold voltage for automatic load discoect is reached. The automatic load discoect prevets deep discharge of the battery, which causes damage ad ecessitates battery replacemet. Operator Status Idicatios UAD status idicatios icludig udergroud motor positio, local/ remote cotrol switch positio, loss of AC, low battery voltage, ad No-Go are reported back through the RTU. All six statuses are idicated locally via LEDs o the UAD cotrol board. Additioal statuses such as fault alarm or low gas alarm ca be provided. Circuit Board ad Coectors The cotrol circuit ad the power circuit are located o separate boards to segregate high voltage ad low voltage sigals for the best reliability. The prited circuit boards are coformal coated to withstad codesig humidity, ope door rai, frost, ad evirometal pollutats. The circuit boards are coected by ribbo cables with gold-plated cotacts for maximum reliability. No-Go Fuctio Whe the battery voltage threshold for No-Go is met (after the low battery voltage alarm), the motor operator is disabled. The No-Go fuctio prevets uderpowered ad icomplete operatio of the switch. A No-Go status is delivered through the RTU. The fuctio is over-ridde whe AC is restored. Stall-out Timer with Auto-Reset If the motor operator is stalled (because of switch mechaical problems or a padlocked motor), the motor stops tryig to operate before the fuse blows. The cotrol circuitry resets ad ca accept aother operatio commad.

7 UAD TM Motor Features The submersible UAD motor assembly is adaptable to ay maufacturer s udergroud switch. Ope ad close travel limits for the motor are positioed via the easy-set travel adjustmet cotrols withi the cotroller. Operatio time is approximately five secods. The cables have bee oil immersio tested for 60 days at 80 C per UL AWM requiremets. For fast trasfer applicatios, Cleavelad/Price offers the UAD RT motor. The RT motor will drive a switch ope or closed i 12 cycles to 24 cycles depedig upo the switch. The motor has a stailess steel, higed padlockable cover that protects operatig persoel from movig parts. The cover is iterlocked with the cotroller via a proximity switch. Whe the cover is ope, electrical operatio of the motor is disabled. The UAD RT motor has the same quality features as the stadard UAD motor oted above. UAD RT motor o a Caada Power Products switch
