1 Metasys Checkout Tool User s Guide 3-1 Chapter 3 Polling the N2 Network or Zone Bus for Devices Introduction The first step in the checkout process is using the Metasys Checkout Tool to find and display (poll) the devices located on the N2 Network or Zone Bus. This chapter describes how to: poll the N2 Network for devices poll the N2 Network for a single input/output of devices poll the Zone Bus for a device January 24, 2003 Johnson Controls, Inc. Code No. LIT Software Release 2.0
2 3-2 Polling the N2 Network or Zone Bus for Devices Key Concepts Poll Types The Metasys Checkout Tool performs three types of polling: N2 Bus - scans the N2 Bus for devices Zone Bus - scans the Zone Bus for a single device Inputs/Outputs (I/O) - scans the N2 Bus for inputs and outputs of devices Before the checkout process, use the Metasys Checkout Tool to poll the bus for devices. The Checkout Tool creates a list of the devices found. Then you can select individual devices for the checkout process. For information on the checkout process, refer to the Checking Out Devices (LIT ) chapter. Figure 3-1 and Table 3-1 further describe these polling options. Table 3-1: Poll Type Options Option Description Device Poll Discovers devices. I/O Poll N2 Only N2/Sys91 Zone Only Address I/O Poll Options Figure 3-1: Poll Type Screen Discovers inputs and outputs of devices that are online on the N2 Bus. You cannot use this polling method to discover devices. Use this polling method to poll many sensor types or override many I/Os at one time. See the I/O Poll Options in this table. Discovers devices on N2 networks that do not contain System 91 devices. Use this method for faster polling. Discovers devices on N2 networks that contain System 91 devices such as DX9100s. Discovers a single device on the Zone Bus. The Metasys Checkout Tool scans the Zone Bus for a single device and, if found, adds the device to the Poll Table with a Z in the Bus column. You can poll the Zone Bus for Variable Air Volume (VAV), VAV Modular Assembly (VMA), Unitary (UNT), and Air Handling Unit (AHU) devices only. This option allows you to check out a single device on the Zone Bus. Discovers devices within this user-defined address range. Discovers the following when you select I/O Poll. See I/O Poll in this table. Point AI, BI, AO, BO, Act All, Even, Odd Determines which AI, BI, AO, BO, or Actuator point to poll. Determines the type of point being polled. Determines the addresses being polled.
3 Metasys Checkout Tool User s Guide 3-3 Polling (Discovery) Process Once the polling process begins, the Metasys Checkout Tool adds devices to the Poll Table as they are discovered. An audible beep sounds upon the discovery of each device. At the start of the discovery process, the bus status of all controllers changes to Offline, indicated by an O in the Bus column of the Poll Table. When each controller is discovered, the bus status changes to the type of bus in which the controller resides. For example, an N appears in the Bus column for a controller discovered on the N2 Bus. Table 3-2 identifies which letter in the Bus column corresponds with the different bus types. Table 3-2: Bus Status Bus Column Letter N X Z O Bus Type N2 Bus XT Bus Zone Bus Device is offline. Note: The Metasys Checkout Tool application uses the Palm Operating System (OS) System Sound setting. Turning off the System Sound in the Palm OS Preferences turns off the sound in the Metasys Checkout Tool application. One of the alerts described in Table 3-3 may appear during the polling process. Table 3-3: Possible Alerts Alert The current database contains a different device at address XXX. Check that the correct project is open. Would you like to add the device to the database? There appears to be another N2 Master on the trunk. Disable all N2 masters before continuing!!! Warning!!! Possible duplicate N2 addresses at address 1 or address 2. Action Press Add Device to add the device to the database and continue polling. Press Don t Add to skip the device and continue polling. Press OK, disable all N2 masters (for example, Network Control Modules [NCMs]), and restart the polling process. This error message may appear when attempting to discover devices on the N2 Bus while connected to the Zone Bus. Note the possible address duplication, press OK, and check the addresses once the polling completes. This error message may appear when attempting to discover devices on the N2 Bus while connected to the Zone Bus.
4 3-4 Polling the N2 Network or Zone Bus for Devices Supported Devices Table 3-4 lists the devices supported in polling (devices that can be discovered by the Metasys Checkout Tool). Refer to Table 4-1 for a list of devices that can be checked out by the Metasys Checkout Tool.
