Mounting the Envoi in the Novar Controls Bracket Preparing the Mounting Surface NOTE! A template for mounting purposes has been supplied at the end of these instructions. It is intended to used as a guide only. Its size can vary, depending on how the page containing the template is printed. For best results, measure the actual bracket and use those measurements when mounting the bracket. If using the template, position it against the mounting surface with the arrow pointing up. Use the following procedure to prepare the mounting surface for the bracket that will hold the Envoi. 1 Measure the bracket carefully and mark the mounting surface to show the locations of the: Four mounting holes. Area to be cut out (indicated on the template by a large X and the word Cutout ). 2 Cut out the area marked on the mounting surface. 3 Drill a ¼-inch hole in each of the mounting hole locations marked on the mounting surface. 2 DOC. # F 4/18/05
5 Positioning and Fastening the Bracket in Place The mounting bracket consists of the section that will sit flat against the mounting surface and a section on each of the four sides of the cutout area that has been bent back to be inserted into the cutout area. The upper and lower sections that are bent back (Figure 1) contain the pieces that will be used as the backing strips when the bracket is mounted. Backing strips come attached to the upper and lower inside sections of the bracket. Bend the backing strips back and forth to break them away from the bracket. Figure 1. Envoi mounting bracket DOC. # F 4/18/05 3
6 Use the following procedure and refer to Figure 1, as necessary, to mount the bracket. 1 Fold the backing strips (Figure 1) back and forth until they break away from the bracket. NOTE! Each backing strip is attached to one side of the bracket with a plastic tie to prevent it from getting lost once it is broken away from the bracket. Do not remove these ties. 2 Position the bracket against the front of the mounting surface, arrow pointing up, so that the mounting holes align with the holes drilled in the surface. 3 Push the bracket gently into the cutout area. 4 Position the backing strips flat against the back (or inside) of the mounting surface, aligning the mounting holes on the strips with those in the surface and the bracket. The heads of the threaded screw holes on the strips should be on the outside of the strip, away from the mounting surface. 5 Insert the 1-inch mounting screws (supplied) through the bracket, mounting surface, and backing strip screw heads and partially tighten. 6 Adjust the bracket to make sure it is level and finish tightening the screws to secure the bracket to the mounting surface. Mounting the Envoi in a Control Panel Use the following procedure to mount the Envoi in a control panel. 1 Position the assembly against the mounting surface. 2 Mark the surface to show the location of the four mounting holes. 3 Drill holes in the places marked in 2. 4 Install hollow-wall or other appropriate fasteners. 5 Position the assembly over the holes, insert screws into the fasteners, and tighten to secure. 4 DOC. # F 4/18/05

10 Connecting the Envoi Directly to a PC The Envoi is equipped to be a component of an Ethernet network. Using the RJ45 Ethernet connector, an Envoi can be attached to a preexisting network or connected directly to a single PC. If it is to be directly connected to a single PC (not part of a larger network), a special crossover cable must be used. Using the direct-connect configuration (shown in Figure 3) also requires that the network parameters in the executive module and the PC be configured as components of the same network with compatible IP addresses. The instructions that follow explain how to connect a personal or laptop computer directly to an Envoi via Ethernet. The first part of the instructions describes the special crossover cable requirements. The second part describes the process required to set up the network parameters in the executive module and the PC. NOTE! When using the crossover cable to connect the Envoi directly to the PC, all other network connections to the PC must be disconnected.
