2 Preprtions Prepre the printer for use by instlling the printer nd connecting the power cord. 1 Instll the printer. You cn use the following two methods for instlling the printer. Instll with stnd Stnds my be stndrd or optionl depending upon your model nd loction. ipf750/ipf755: Stndrd ipf650/ipf655: Optionl (equipped s stndrd in some loctions) 2 Remove the pcking mterils from the top of the printer. Assemble the stnd nd instll the printer referring to the Printer Stnd Setup Guide included with the stnd. After instlltion, proceed to step 4. Instll without stnd on tble Proceed to step 2. 3 Three people should hold the printer's crrying hndles nd plce the printer on tble or other fl t loction. 4 Remove the ornge tpe used to secure the roll holder to the printer. The ipf750/ipf755 weighs pproximtely Cution 52 kg nd the ipf650/ipf655 pproximtely 43 kg by themselves. Moving the printer requires t lest three people. Be creful to void bck strin nd other injuries. When moving the printer, firmly grsp the crrying hndles. Holding the printer t other positions is dngerous, nd my cuse injury nd dmge if the printer is dropped. 5 Move the printer to the loction where you will use it. 6 Cution When moving the stnd, lift the support rod After you hve moved the stnd, be sure to to the position () before closing the output lock the 4 csters. stcker nd unlocking the 4 csters. Filure to do so my led to scrtched flooring, dmge to the bsket cloth, nd injury. Plug the power cord into the power supply connector on the right of the printer nd plug the other end into the outlet. As lock lever inwrds, open the ink tnk lock instructed, grb the hndle on the ink tnk cover to open it. lever upwrds. Shke the ink tnks gently 1 to 2 times before opening the pouch. Filure to shke ink tnks my result in reduced print qulity becuse ink ingredients hve settled on the bottom of the tnk. 7 Open the pouch nd remove the ink tnk. Insert the ink tnk into the holder fcing 8 9 s shown, with the ink holes down. Close the ink tnk lock lever until it clicks into plce. Mke sure the ink lmp is lit in red. Never touch the ink holes () or metl contcts (b). Touching these prts my cuse stins, dmge the ink tnk, nd ffect print qulity. b Avoid dropping the ink tnk fter removing it from the pouch.otherwise, ink my lek nd cuse stins. Do not remove nd shke ink tnks tht hve lredy been instlled in the printer becuse ink my lek out. If the ink tnk does not fi t in the holder, mke sure the color of the ink tnk lock lever mtches the color of the ink tnk, nd check the orienttion of the ink tnk. If the ink lmp is not lit, repet steps 5, 8, nd Repet steps 5 to 9 to instll ll of the ink Close the ink tnk cover. tnks. 9 3

4 Instll the Printhed Next, instll the printhed. 1 Open Upper Cover is shown on the When instlling the printhed, do not move the crrige () from the position cover. shown in the fi gure. If you move the crrige (), wrning noise sounds nd the printhed cnnot be instlled. If you hve moved the crrige (), close the top cover. The crrige () moves to the position shown in the figure. 2 Pull the printhed fixer lever forwrd ll the wy to open it completely. Instructions on printhed replcement re shown on the disply screen. Lift the printhed fixer cover to open it 3 fully. 4 Hold the printhed by the grips () s you remove it from the pouch. 5 Remove the ornge protective prt (). To remove ornge protective prt (b), push the grip (c) s you remove the prt. b c Never touch the prts covered by the protective prt. This my dmge the printhed nd ffect printing qulity. The printhed contins ink, so be creful not to spill it once the protective prt is removed. Do not rettch the protective prt fter removing it. Dispose of these mterils ccording to locl regultions. 6 Insert the printhed into the crrige (b) Pull the printhed fi xer cover down towrd printer s shown in the figure. Crefully 7 8 push the printhed firmly into the crrige (b), ensuring tht the prt covered by the protective prt does not touch the crrige. Push the printhed fixer lever ll the wy bck. b 9 Close the top cover. 4

5 Lod Cut Sheet Pper Lod pper for djusting the printhed into the printer. Follow these steps to lod cut sheet pper into the printer. The smple pper provided is used in this exmple. Select type of pper for printhed dj. 1 is shown on the disply screen. Check tht Cut Sheet is selected nd press OK. 2 Slide the width guide () nd lign it with the mrk for the size of pper to be loded. In this exmple, lign the width guide with A2 to lign it with the size of the smple pper. 3 Prepre one sheet of pper. Refer to the pckging for the pper to check which side is the printble surfce. Return unused pper to the pouch it cme in, nd store it wy from het, humidity nd direct sunlight. Instructions on loding cut sheets re shown on the disply screen. 4 Lod pper with the printble surfce fce up. Insert the pper until its leding edge touches stop nd you her tone. 5 Adjust the position of the width guide () to the size of the pper to be loded. Mke sure the width guide fi ts properly ginst the edge of the pper to prevent it from being tilted or wrinkled. 6 A messge confirming pper dvnce is shown on the disply screen. Press OK. Only one sheet cn be loded in the printer. Do not lod two or more sheets. Doing so might cuse pper jm. Wrinkled or wrped pper might cuse pper jms. Be sure to fl tten the pper out before loding it. 7 The screen for selecting the pper type is shown on the disply screen. Press or to select the type of pper loded in the printer. Select Coted Pper nd press OK. Then from the menu tht ppers, select Coted Pper nd press OK. 8 When pper dvnce ends, the system is utomticlly fi lled with ink for the first time nd printhed djustment is strted. It tkes totl of bout 20 minutes. Mke use of this time by referring to "Instll the Printer Driver nd the User Mnul" on pge 6 to instll the printer driver nd the User Mnul on your PC. 9 When printhed djustment ends, pper is printed with n djustment pttern nd is ejected. While holding the pper, press the relese lever () bckwrds to remove the pper. During printer instlltion, ink fi lls the system between the ink tnks nd printhed. In ddition, printheds re clened to keep the printer in optiml condition. This my cuse the mintennce crtridge cpcity indictor to drop to bout 80%, but this is not problem with the printer. The pper is dvnced. 10 Pull the relese lever forwrd. Printer setup is now complete. For how to lod roll pper, refer to the Bsic Guide (1), to the User Mnul instlled t "Instll the Printer Driver nd the User Mnul", or to the instructions displyed by the nvigtion function of the control pnel. Follow the procedure below to disply the nvigtion on how to lod roll pper. 1. Press Nvigte. 2. Use the nd keys to select Lod Roll Pper nd press OK. 3. Use the nd keys to select View Op. Guide nd press OK. The nvigtion strts. 5

6 Instll the Printer Driver nd the User Mnul Windows You cn print from Windows vi USB or TCP/IP (network) connections. The instlltion procedure vries depending on how your printer is connected. Instll the printer driver nd the User Mnul s follows. The following screen my be displyed during instlltion depending on the security settings of your computer. Select Dectivte the block nd click Next. <Comptible Operting Systems> Windows Vist, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows 2000 Instlltion requires dministrtive rights (such s those of Administrtor). Be sure to log on using n ccount with dministrtive rights before instlltion. For USB connections Use USB cble tht conforms to the Hi-Speed USB specifi ction. Connect the USB cble to the printer s instructed during instlltion of the relevnt printer driver. If you connect the USB cble before instlling the printer driver, the printer driver my not be instlled correctly. 1 2 After mking sure the printer is not connected to the computer, turn the computer on. Insert the provided User Softwre CD-ROM for your operting system in the CD-ROM drive. In the Setup Menu window, click Instll Printer Driver. To choose different lnguge, click Lnguge Confi rm tht the required instlltion items re selected in the Instlltion List window, nd then click Next. In the Select Country or Region of Use window, select the country or region of use nd click Next. After reding the license greement, click Yes. Point t softwre title to view summry of the softwre. 6 In the Printer Selection window, select The printer is connected directly to computer nd click Next. 7 8 In the Printer Instlltion dilog box, select Instll with USB Connection, nd click Next. When the following dilog box is displyed, mke sure the printer is on nd use the USB cble to connect the printer to the computer. If wrning messge is displyed, click Retry to try gin. 6

7 9 After reviewing the instlltion results in the Complete Instlltion window, click Next. 10 In the Finish window, select Restrt my computer now nd click Restrt. Be creful not to insert the USB cble into the Ethernet port. The printer driver settings tke effect fter 11 the computer restrts. This completes 12 printer driver instlltion. An ipfxxxx Support desktop icon is creted fter instlltion. (ipfxxxx represents the printer model.) Next, instll the User Mnul. When the Instll User Mnul dilog box is displyed, insert the provided User Mnuls CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive nd click Next. 13 Click Next. After reding the softwre license Click Instll greement, select I ccept the terms of The instlltion process begins. the license greement, nd then click Next. After instlltion is completed, click Finish. The User Mnul is now instlled. For TCP/IP (network) connections When you fi rst connect the printer to the network 1 2 Use the LAN cble to connect the LAN port on the bck of the printer to the hub port. Pss the network cble through the wiring brcket (). Mke sure the printer is on. Turn the computer on nd insert the provided User Softwre CD-ROM for your operting system in the CD-ROM drive. If the printer is on, the Link indictor under the LAN port lights. 1000Bse-T The LED on the bottom connection lights green. 100Bse-TX The LED on the top lights connection ornge. 10Bse-T connection The LED on the top lights green. 7

8 3 In the Setup Menu window, click Instll Printer Driver. 4 Confi rm tht the required instlltion items re selected in the Instlltion List window, nd then click Next. 5 In the Select Country or Region of Use window, select the country or region of use nd click Next. To choose different lnguge, click Lnguge. Point t softwre title to view summry of the softwre. 6 After reding the license greement, click Yes. 7 8 In the Printer Selection window, select The printer is connected to computers in network nd click Next. After reding the precutions in the Getting Redy window, select Find vilble printers in the network nd click Next. 9 Avilble printers re listed in the Serch Results window. Select printer from the list on either their IPv4 Devices or IPv6 Devices tbs nd click Next. The IPv6 Devices tb is displyed in Windows Vist nd Windows Server If the printer you wnt to use is not displyed in the list on the IPv6 Devices tb, connect vi IPv4 insted. If the printer you wnt to use is not displyed in the list of printers on the IPv4 Devices tb, refer to "When the printer cnnot be found on the network" on pge 9 to setup nd configure n IP ddress for the printer. 10 In the Method of Configuring IP Addresses window, enter the IP ddress in Configure mnully, under Method of Configuring IP Addresses. Click Instll to strt the instlltion process. Also enter your preferred nme for the printer in Device Nme nd the instlltion loction in Printer Loction under Informtion About Printer to Configure, s desired. The instlltion process begins. If you use DHCP server for utomtic ssignment of the printer's IP ddress, printing my no longer be possible fter the printer is turned off nd on. This is becuse different IP ddress hs been ssigned. When using DHCP server functions, consult your network dministrtor nd confi gure the settings in one of the following wys: Configure the setting for dynmic DNS updting In RemoteUI, ctivte the setting Enble DNS Dynmic Updte. ( "Configuring the Printer's TCP/IP Network Settings", User Mnul) Configure the setting for ssignment of the sme IP ddress ech time the printer strts up 8

9 After reviewing the instlltion results in In the Finish window, select Restrt my the Complete Instlltion window, click computer now nd click Restrt. Next. The printer driver settings tke effect fter the computer restrts. This completes printer driver instlltion. An ipfxxxx Support desktop icon is creted fter instlltion. (ipfxxxx represents the printer model.) Next, follow steps on pge 7 to instll the User Mnul. When the printer cnnot be found on the network If your printer cnnot be found when connecting to the network for the first time, setup n IP ddress for the printer nd then configure it on the printer. 1 2 On the tb selection screen of the control pnel, press the nd keys to select (Settings/Adjustments) nd press OK. Use the nd keys to select Interfce Setup nd press OK. When ink fills the system for the first time, fter printhed djustment is finished, specify the IP ddress on the printer's control pnel. When ink fills the system for the first time, do not operte the printer until printhed djustment is fi nished. No Pper Loded OK:Setting/Adj. Menu Mint. crt. Remining Amount 3 Use the nd keys to select TCP/IP nd press OK. 4 Enter the IP ddress. Nvigte through the following menus using the nd keys on the control pnel. 1. Select IPv4 nd press OK. 2. Select IPv4 Settings nd press OK. 3. Select IP Address nd press OK. 4. Enter the IP ddress. How to enter IP ddresses 1. Press the nd keys to select field for inputting vlues. 2. Use the nd keys to input vlues. Pressing increses the vlue by one. However, 0 comes fter 255. Pressing decreses the vlue by one. However, 255 comes fter 0. Holding down either the or keys continully increses or decreses the vlue. 3. Press OK once you hve finished. 5 6 Press Menu. Press OK on the registrtion confirmtion messge tht ppers. The IP ddress is set on the printer. Next, restrt instlltion of the printer driver. 7 In the Serch Results window, select Specify the IP ddress of vilble printers in the network nd click Next. The IP Address Specifiction window ppers. Follow steps 8-11 on pge to finish instlling the printer driver. Next, follow steps on pge 7 to instll the User Mnul. If the following screen ppers, click Retry nd select Specify the IP ddress of vilble printers in the network on the next screen tht ppers. 9

10 If the printer is lredy connected to the network If the printer is lredy connected to the network, confi rm the IP ddress ssigned to the printer. Ask your network dministrtor for further informtion. 1 2 Mke sure the printer is on. Turn the computer on nd insert the provided User Softwre CD-ROM for your operting system in the CD-ROM drive. In the Setup Menu window, click Instll Printer Driver. 13 Mcintosh You cn print from Mcintosh vi USB or network connections such s Bonjour or IP. Instll the printer driver tht suits your printing environment. <Comptible Operting Systems> Mc OS X or lter Connect the printer to computer Connect the cble Use cble to connect the printer to computer or the network. When connecting to 1 2 network, pss the network cble through the wiring brcket (). Mke sure the printer is on. Turn the computer on. For USB connections For network connections Be creful not to insert the USB cble into the Ethernet port. Confi gure the computer Instll the printer driver Be sure to log in s user with dministrtive rights when instlling the printer driver. 1 2 Insert the provided User Softwre CD-ROM for your operting system in the CD-ROM drive. On the desktop, double-click the CD-ROM icon nd then the ipf Printer Setup icon. User Softwre If the following screen is displyed, enter Confi rm tht the required instlltion items the user nme nd pssword of user re selected, nd then click Next. with dministrtive rights nd click OK. Select the country or region where the printer will be used nd click Next. Click Next. After reding the softwre license greement, click Continue. Click Agree. 13

14 Click Continue. Exit other pplictions nd click Continue The printer driver, dditionl printer driver fetures, ICC Profiles, nd the Medi Configurtion Tool re now instlled. Click OK. Click Quit. This completes printer driver instlltion Next, select the printer to set up. Click Next. Select the printer to setup nd click Next. After entering your preferred nme for the printer in Printer Nme nd the instlltion loction in Loction, click Register. Click Finish. To register the printer by entering its IP ddress, click Registering IP Address. Enter the IP ddress of the desired printer in IP Address nd click Next. To register nother printer, click Continue Registrtion, nd repet steps 14 to 16. Instll the User Mnul Click OK The following screen is displyed nd pper informtion is updted. When the pper informtion hs been updted, the screen is no longer displyed. 19 Next, instll the User Mnul. Insert the provided User Mnuls CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. If the sme model of printer is lredy registered on the computer, screen is displyed for printer selection. Select the desired printer nd click Next. 20 Double-click the ipfxxxx Mnul Instller icon on the CD-ROM. (ipfxxxx represents the printer model.) 21 Select the region where the printer will be used nd the lnguge of the user mnul to instll, nd then click OK. 22 Check the messge nd click Continue. 14

15 After reding the softwre license Click Agree greement, click Continue. Click Instll. 26 After instlltion is completed, click Quit. The User Mnul is now instlled. Store Accessories in the Pockets Use the mnul pocket to store the Bsic Guide (which includes descriptions of bsic printer 1 2 opertions, routine mintennce, nd troubleshooting tips), so you cn refer to it s needed. When using the stnd, store the 3-inch pper core ttchment nd other ccessories in the ccessory pocket. The ccessory pocket is included with the stnd. 15

16 Responding to Messges Error messges my pper on the disply screen of the control pnel during printer instlltion in some cses. If so, it my not indicte problem with the printer, nd the issue my be esily resolved. Common messges nd the cuses re listed here with corrective ctions. To respond to error messges other thn these, refer to the Bsic Guide (2). For other detiled printer instructions, refer to the User Mnul instlled t "Instll the Printer Driver nd the User Mnul". Messge Cuse Corrective Action No ink tnk loded. Check ink tnk. There is no ink tnk of the indicted color in the printer. Lod or relod the ink tnk. (see steps 4-11 on pge 3) No printhed Instll printhed. The printhed is not instlled. Instll the printhed. (see steps 1-9 on pge 4) Pper is crooked. Push the relese lever bck, then Pull out the cut sheet. Could not detect pper size. Push relese lever bck, Pull out the cut sheet. Insert the mintennce crtridge. The loded pper is crooked. The pper is loded in the wrong position or the pper is curled. The mintennce crtridge is not instlled. 1. Press the relese lever bckwrds. 2. Pull out the pper. 3. Pull the relese lever forwrd. 4. Lod or relod the pper. Instll the mintennce crtridge. Hrdwre error. xxxxxxxx-xxxx (x represents letter or number) ERROR Exxx-xxxx (x represents letter or number) Another kind of error hs occurred. You my hve encountered n error tht cnnot be resolved. Turn off the printer nd wit t lest three seconds before restoring the power. If the messge still ppers, write down the error code nd messge, turn off the printer, nd contct your Cnon deler for ssistnce.
