2 Description IBM 7014-S11 Rack: The Model S11 Rack has 11 EIA units of space for mounting system units and expansion drawers designed for 19-inch rack-mounting. IBM systems that can be accommodated in this rack are rack-mount entry systems. The overall rack height is 24 inches, and the distance between the front and back EIA mounting rails is 28.3 inches. The rack comes with side covers (nonremovable) and a locking front door. The back of the rack is open to facilitate tower-like cabling convenience. The rack is available in IBM black. Filler panels in the front of the rack, behind the door, cover all EIA space that is not filled with the rack-mounted devices. The rack can be shipped preassembled with IBM System p5 entry servers and I/O drawers. The rack ships with an extendable front stabilizer bracket that must be pulled out when installing or servicing system units from the front of the rack. The rack is mounted on casters two swivel casters in front and two fixed casters in the back that support easy movement of the rack and rack contents. The casters have locking screws to restrict unwanted motion. The rack can be ordered with a UPS for protection against limited power outages. IBM Rack: The Model Rack has 25 EIA units of space for mounting system units and expansion drawers designed for 19-inch rack mounting. IBM systems that can be accommodated in this rack are the rack-mount System p5 entry systems. The overall rack height is 49 inches, and the distance between the front and back EIA mounting rails is 28.3 inches. The rack comes with removable side covers and locking front and rear doors. The front door is reversible so that it can be configured for either left or right opening. The rear door is split vertically in the middle and hinges on both the left and right sides. The rack is available in IBM black. Filler panels in the front of the rack, behind the door, cover all EIA space that is not filled with rack-mounted devices. The rack can be shipped preassembled with IBM System p5 entry servers and I/O expansion drawers. The rack ships with a front stabilizer bracket for installing or servicing system units from the front of the rack. The rack is mounted on casters two swivel casters in front and two fixed casters in the back that support easy movement of the rack and rack contents. An adjustable foot near each caster can be lowered to the floor to restrict unwanted motion. The rack can be ordered with a UPS for protection against limited power outages. Customer-specified Rack Placement (#0469): This feature allows you to specify where the system modules should be placed in the rack. When an initial order is created that contains both a rack and accompanying system units, you (or account team) can now use econfig to specify the location in the rack of the system modules being ordered. With this information, IBM Manufacturing will build the rack to the configuration specified. This can save time and money in avoiding having to rearrange the system modules after the rack has been delivered. Due to safety issues, it may not be possible to build the rack in the exact configuration that you request. In this case, econfig will indicate that the requested configuration cannot be built. If this occurs, you have the option to relocate the modules in a different configuration, accept the default configuration, or place the system on a separate order and install the system after the rack arrives. IBM will not ship a rack configuration that is unstable due to the distribution of the weight of the modules inside the rack. This is often referred to as an assembly being top heavy. If econfig calculates that the requested placement locations will result in an unstable assembly, you will be asked to relocate the modules. IBM currently ships the 7014-T42 rack with the space above EIA unit 32 empty. Any system modules that belong in this space on the order are removed and boxed separately and shipped to the client location for field installation. This practice will not change. This is done for safety reasons as mentioned. Use of this feature is not required. If this feature number is not specified on the rack order, IBM will continue to place the system modules in the rack according to a set of build rules IBM considers to be best practice. There are some system-specific rules that must be followed when putting a system into a rack. For instance, the is a multiple enclosure system; in this system the base module, the one with the operator panel, must be on top of the stack. The additional enclosures, up to three, must go underneath with no empty space between enclosures. This is dictated by the cables that join these modules together into a single system. Rules such as these cannot be modified. To use this feature, you (or the account team) will use the IBM configuration application (econfig) to apply the Customer-Specified Rack Placement feature number 0469 on the order: The order will be validated against the manufacturing and shipping rules in the configuration session. The application will flag invalid configurations, and you will have the option to rearrange the drawers to meet the manufacturing and shipping safety rules. The configurator output (CFReport) will be used to create an IBM order using the current ordering system. In addition, this output will need to be submitted separately to IBM with the order identification information attached. This second step ensures that IBM will receive the correct and complete placement information. This information must be submitted using this Web site The order is not considered complete until the placement information is received at the preceding Web site and validated by IBM This applies only to new initial orders. A PDU and associated power cord can be ordered separately by MES if required. All configurations A Language Group Specify feature number must be included on all rack orders. No PDUs are included in a base rack order for the 7014-S11 or the If a PDU feature number is added to the rack order, a power cord must also be specified. If a PDU is not added to the order, then the rack-mount system unit must be connected directly to a wall outlet at the installed location. Be careful to order the correct line cord with the system unit to support this type of installation. These line cord features are typically identified as To Wall or To Wall/OEM PDU. Power requirements: Model S11 and racks (when ordered with optional feature number 7188) Operating voltage: 200 to 240 V ac 50/60 Hz Power source loading: 4.8 KVA per PDU The optional rack power distribution system provides 200 to 240 V ac (50 Hz/60 Hz to the system components (drawers). Each PDU is capable of providing up to 4.8 KVA. EMC conformance classification: racks Model S11 and The EMC conformance and classification of the rack is dependent on the system and expansion drawers housed in the rack. For specific information about EMC conformance for your application, see the documentation shown with the system and expansion drawers being purchased with the rack. These racks are not EMC enclosures and are not designed to improve the EMC performance of the equipment contained in the rack. Product safety/country testing/certification: 7014-S11 and when shipped as stand-alone racks: CAN/CSA-C22.2 No UL 60950, Third Edition 7014-S11 and when shipped with supported eserver p5 systems and attached modules: CAN/CSA-C22.2 No UL 60950, Third Edition CE Mark (EN60950) IEC (CB Certificate and CB Test Report) Limitations Each Power Distribution Unit (PDU) (#7188) has 12 ac power outlets. A PDU can manage a maximum of 12 separate power receptacles within the rack. If more than 12 power outlets are required, additional PDUs (#7188) can be ordered. If the rack is required to support redundant power system modules, a second PDU (#7188) should be ordered. If PDU feature number 7188 is ordered, the power cord must be ordered separately and should be selected such that it meets the wall power receptacle requirements at the installed location. The distance between the front and rear EIA rails on both the S11 and racks is 28 inches. The S11 and racks do not have vertical mounting space that will accommodate feature number 7188 PDUs. All PDUs required for application in these racks must be installed horizontally in the rear of the rack. Each horizontally mounted PDU occupies 1U of space in the rack and therefore reduces the space available for mounting servers and other components. On the S11 rack, the distance from the rear EIA flange to the rear of the rack side panel is approximately 2 inches. The rear of the rack is open and does not include any cable management features. The S11 rack has a maximum load limit of kg (400 lbs) for a maximum loaded rack weight of 216 kg (475 lbs)

5 On the rack, the distance from the rear EIA flange to the rear door is approximately 6 inches. This space is available for cables and cable management hardware. Note that it will be very challenging to support installations with complex cabling requirements in this limited space. The rack has a maximum load limit of kg (1250 lbs) for a maximum loaded rack weight of 667 kg (1470 lbs).
