43 Qualified I/O Device Tables ALP360 SDLT Restrictions Mixing of ALP360 and other fibre channel control types on the same attach Loop is not allowed and restricted. Quickloop connections are not supported. ALP360-2FD Dual SDLT600 Rackmount, FC, dual node It is the expected behavior of Fibre Channel tape units to report irrecoverable I/Os if a LIP (Loop Initialization Process) occurs after data transfer has started for either a read or write operation between the device and the host channel. If data transfer has not started between the device and the host channel, the I/O reporting the LIP as an outboard bus device reset will be retried. For Fabric connected configurations, the relationship of one channel to up to two units should be maintained and it is recommended that they be placed in a zone. If more channels and units are attached to the same fabric they should each be in their own zone, and the fabric bandpass needs to be designed to handle the additional units and channels. The ALP360 does not utilize a Hard Addressing scheme for connection to FC_AL arbitrated loop. This device uses a Soft address scheme that starts the process of obtaining a loop address (soft) at the low end of the AL_PA table of AL_PA s (i.e. starting at AL_PA =EF dec. 00). Based on this, the ALP360 must be the only target device on the FC_AL to the host initiator when direct connect FC_AL mode is configured. And can only be configured using address 0 for the control in a direct attach configuration. When using this device in a fabric configuration the WWID Port Name should be used in the configuration file. ALP360-RFD SDLT600 field upgrade, ALP360-1FS to ALP360-2FD

55 Section 3 SCSI Device Guidelines Introduction This section covers SCSI Tape Appliance and the tape devices subsystems that use the wide SCSI and Ultra wide SCSI interfaces. The maximum data transfer rate for Ultra SCSI interface is 40 MB per second. The following are some SCSI configuration rules: The maximum end-to-end length of the Ultra or Wide SCSI Bus is 25 meters (80 ft) For connectivity, the maximum number of SCSI devices per bus is four (4). For best performance, the maximum number of SCSI devices per bus is two (2). Both ends of the SCSI bus must be terminated, with no mid-bus terminations. Each device on the bus must have a unique SCSI ID. Dual Initiator SCSI A SCSI Dual Initiator configuration has two different bus masters. Dual Initiator is typically employed so that two different systems can access the same Tape drives (though not at the same time)

56 SCSI Device Guidelines Figure 3 1. Appliance Cabling Dual Initiator Configuration with two Tape Appliances Terminators require consideration with dual initiator. Both ends of the SCSI bus are terminated, so the second bus master must have the terminator removed. Port D on the LVD-HVD Converter has no terminator and may be attached to the middle of the bus. Subsystem Configuration Guidelines Tape Storage Subsystems Configuration Guidelines The following tape drive subsystems are qualified on some of ClearPath systems covered by this guide. 63 Section 4 Fibre Channel Device Guidelines General FC3-IOP Fibre Channel adapters enable ClearPath hosts to interface to Fibre Channel protocol (FCP) peripherals and subsystems. FCP is defined as SCSI protocol over Fibre Channel. Peripherals are connected to a host using a serial interface on an arbitrated loop (FC_AL) or through a fabric. The FC3 IOP provides one Ethernet port connection and two Fibre Channel portconnections. The Gigabit Ethernet port provides external networking and ODT support. The portconnection can be either copper or optical at 1 Gb per second. The two Fibre Channel ports provide the interface to external I/O devices. Each of thefibre Channel ports provide an optical interface, with a transfer rate of either 1, 2, or 4 Gbper second. Qualification Status Section 2 of this document lists which devices are supported on the FC3-IOP. Configuration Guideline Table 4 1. FC3-IOP Configuration Guidelines Area Maximum Interface Cable Length Guideline The following is the maximum uninterrupted length of each Fibre Channel cable type: Copper: 30 meters SW Laser 50 µm optical fiber: 500 meters SW Laser 62.5 µm optical fiber: 175 meters LW Laser 8 µm optical fiber: 10 kilometers Note: Maximum lengths may be expanded using Brocade s Expanded Fibre Channel option

64 Fibre Channel Device Guidelines Table 4 1. FC3-IOP Configuration Guidelines Area Connectivity FC switch firmware Guideline Arbitrated Loop: The maximum number of ports on FC-AL is 126. Fabric: For a breakdown of fabric capabilities, see ClearPath Plus Servers Libra Modesl 680 and 690 Administration and Operations Guide. All switches in a fabric must have compatible firmware levels for proper operation of the fabric. See Brocade Fibre Channel Switches at the end of this section. Setting Up Storage Area Network Fabrics and Creating Zones For instructions on setting up fabrics and creating zones, see ClearPath Plus Servers Libra Model 580, Libra Model 590, and FS1600 System Administration and Operations Overview ( ). Fibre Channel Disk Subsystems Guidelines for Installing the EuroLogic JBD2000 JBOD Rack On the Libra 580, the JBD2000 can only be connected to the host via a FC3-IOP. The following tables describe the minimum software levels and deviations and risk assessments for migrating a JBD2000 to a Libra 680/690. Table 4 2. Deviation and Risk Assessment Deviation With a fabric connection to the JBD2000, the I/O count goes to zero for 10 to over 15 seconds during a disk drive removal and Risk Low: for groups that run with default I/O time out timers of 80 seconds set this is a low risk

65 Fibre Channel Device Guidelines Table 4 3. Deviation and Risk Assessment Deviation replacement in a mirrored configuration. Risk Medium-High: to CAP configurations or other customer applications that require I/O timeouts occur at a maximum of ten seconds or less. Restrictions Host Interfaces are all optical Fibre Channel. Copper cables are only used to interconnect racks. Splitting the JBOD2000 racks into two loops within the same rack it not supported. When running on fabric and multiple Initiators are used, separate zones should be used from each initiator that overlap at the storage port so that initiators are not in the same zone. For instructions on setting up fabrics and creating zones, see ClearPath Plus Servers Libra Models 680 and 690 System Administration and Operations Overview. 67 Fibre Channel Device Guidelines Fibre Channel Tape Subsystems CTS9840 Fibre Channel Tape Configuration The CTS9840 requires the use of control type FCSCSIMT in the PCD of the partition profile. The maximum number of drives per channel is two due to channel bandwidth limits. The mixing of CTS9840 and ESM7700 on the same loop is not allowed. The CTS9840 has two FC ports on the unit. Both ports can assess the drive but not at the same time. Only one port can be used. Port A is used for even numbered addresses and Port B is used for odd numbered addresses. Configure CTS9840A for Fabric To set the CTS9840A tape drive for Fabric, perform the following. Notes: The tape drive must be a CTS9840A (STK part number ) and must be at a minimum firmware level of R f to install on the fabric. For more information on configuring the CTS9840, refer to CTS9840 Cartridge Tape Subsystem Installation Guide ( ). 1. Take the drive offline. 2. Go to the drive configuration menu for Fibre Channel. 3. Go to the Port A and B Attributes and set Hard PA=Y. This will set the drive to ports to operate in FL_Port mode. 4. Set the loop address. For instructions on setting up fabrics and creating zones, see ClearPath Plus Servers Libra Models 680 and 690 System Administration and Operations Guide. CTS9840B Fibre Channel Tape Configuration Guidelines The CTS9840B requires the use of control type FCSCSIMT in the PCD of the partition profile

LTO Technology is ideal in the SAN environment because it meets the special tape demands that SANs create. Similar to digital linear tape drives (DLT), LTO drives write data tracks in a linear, serpentine fashion. When the end of the tape is reached, the heads are repositioned above or below their current location, and recording resumes in the opposite direction. There are two Fibre Channel LTO drives supported on ClearPath enterprise servers: the CLU180-22F for CLU180 libraries and the CLU700-22F for CLU700 libraries.
