4 SINAMICS S110 member of the SINAMICS family SINAMICS S110 Positioning functions for all generally encountered applications Powerful, efficient and reliable The SINAMICS S110 single-axis drive can control linear axes just the same as rotary axes. Axes can be positioned to absolute target points or moved through relative distances. A following error monitoring function that can be optionally activated immediately issues an alarm if irregularities occur while traversing. The zero speed monitoring at the end positions also has an alarm function. When required, jerk limiting can ensure that the axis starts and stops smoothly. As a consequence, even sensitive products or containers filled with liquid can be efficiently moved. MDI mode The MDI mode 1 is the simplest way of positioning using SINAMICS S110. Positioning parameters (velocity, target position/travel distance optionally also acceleration rates) can be entered from a higher-level control, and are activated by the start command. If required, individual parameters for positioning travel can be modified as the axis moves. v t Traversing blocks mode Simple traversing profiles can be implemented in the traversing blocks mode. Up to 16 position or traversing distances can be saved in the drive together with the corresponding velocity and acceleration parameters. These traversing blocks can be executed either sequentially or according to additional criteria. Jog mode Goods randomly arriving on a conveyor belt can be brought into a precise position using the jog mode. 5 SINAMICS S110 One of the most universal and safest positioning drives Versatile single-axis servo drive As converter for standard positioning tasks, SINAMICS S110 operates quickly and efficiently. This can involve machining axes with a higher dynamic performance, which define the primary process of a machine or plant, as well as actuator axes that are less critical from a time perspective. SINAMICS S110 positions synchronous and induction motors with power ratings of up to 132 kw. Open and connection-friendly SINAMICS S110 is open regarding the source of the motors used. A complete solution based on Siemens motors ensures that the motor and converter are optimally harmonized to one another. Both SIMOTICS S-1FK7/1FT7 synchronous servomotors as well as the smooth-running SIMOTICS M-1PH8 main motors have electronic rating plates and a digital DRIVE-CLiQ interface, which allows the drive systems to be quickly commissioned. Universal connection to higher-level controls The SINAMICS S110 positioning drive is available with a PROFIBUS or PROFINET interface, and supports standard protocols, such as PROFIdrive and PROFIsafe for connection to a higher-level control system. The complete drive intelligence is embedded in the Control Units (CU). They handle all of the closed-loop control functions in the drive lineup. Further, they execute all of the other drive functions, for example logically combining driverelated I/O, positioning functions etc. and have PROFIBUS DP or PROFINET as central interfaces to connect to higherlevel automation systems. SIMOTION D or SINUMERIK can be used as special Control Units for motion control or CNC applications respectively. SIMOTION D devices are modular Control Units that also have an integrated motion control system in addition to the closed-loop drive control. SINUMERIK devices are modular Control Units to automate machine tools. Line Modules supply the central DC link to which the Motor Modules (power units) are connected. Depending on the selected Line Module type, energy can be fed back into the three-phase line supply, the DC link voltage can be controlled and line harmonics reduced. Energy is exchanged between motoring and generating Motor Modules via the central DC link. Only the missing or excess energy is drawn from or injected back into the line supply or is dissipated in braking resistors. Drive-related inputs/ outputs can be expanded using Terminal Modules. Drive systems in the Booksize-Compact format facilitate an especially compact design. Further, double axis modules allow the width of Booksize-Compact and Booksize devices to be reduced. 4

They are available in the Booksize Compact, Booksize as well as Chassis formats. Both versions can be operated on one DC link. Cooling The motor cooling method depends on the power rating and type. Booksize Motor Modules are cooled in three different ways: Internal air cooling, where power loss occurs in the cabinet External cooling (through-hole technology) where the majority of the power loss is dissipated outside the cabinet Coldplate cooling, where the heat is dissipated through a cooled mounting surface The Chassis Motor Modules are either air or water cooled. The advantages of water cooling for high power ratings when compared to air cooling are the smaller mounting footprint and quiet converter operation. It makes sense to use water cooling in small and poorly ventilated areas (e.g. onboard ships) or for locations where low noise is specified (e.g. test equipment). 7

CUA31/32 Control Unit adapter for multi-axis applications with SINAMICS S120 AC-Drive The drive is connected to a multi-axis Control Unit, e.g. CU320-2, using the CU adapter CUA31 via the DRIVE-CLiQ interface. This Control Unit then handles the drive functions for the AC-Drive. In this configuration, SINAMICS S120 AC- Drives can also be used in mixed operation with SINAMICS S120 multi-axis devices. 35 The new drive quality SINAMICS S150 drive converter High precision and dynamic response SINAMICS S150 is a high-performance single-motor drive with closed-loop vector control for the power range from 75 to 1,200 kw. This drive converter is equipped, as standard, with Active Infeed (self-commutated regenerative feedback) into the line supply. This makes these drive converters especially line-friendly so that they can fulfil the stringent specifications of the power utility companies regarding the quality of the line supply (IEEE ). Reliable solution for many applications Variable-speed drives for high-performance process operations are especially applicable for machinery and plant construction in the process and production industries: Food and beverage, automobile and steel industries, underground/ open-cast mining, marine engineering and cranes/conveyor technology profit from the precision of this drive. SINAMICS S150 makes sense for weak line supplies and those that fluctuate significantly. This is because it decouples the load from the line supply and intelligently compensates the voltage fluctuations. Competitive advantages for plant and machinery construction What makes plants and systems with SINAMICS S150 better than others? For instance, Active Infeed: This technology that Siemens has established in the market secures the high availability of a plant. This means that our Active Infeed makes the complete drive system insensitive to voltage fluctuations, it maintains operation during brief line supply interruptions in the millisecond range and not only this, but in regenerative operation there are no inverter commutation faults with fuses blowing when connected to weak line supplies. This is complemented by an extensive, long-term service concept rounded-off by the fact that the individual modules and power compo- nents have been designed so that they can be quickly replaced. Significantly reduced: Space requirement and noise level The SINAMICS S150 drive converter in a standard cabinet is especially quiet and compact because of its state-of-the-art IGBT power semiconductors together with an innovative cooling concept. 36 SINAMICS S150 precision drive with energy-saving and line-friendly technology To efficiently use energy For applications where the associated drives operate regeneratively as a result of frequent braking cycles and with high energy levels when braking, then it makes a lot of economic sense to regenerate this energy into the line supply. This is significantly more cost-effective than to convert the energy into heat, for example, using a braking chopper. SINAMICS S150 offers the best prerequisites because not only is it capable of regenerative feedback without any restrictions, but it does this with the highest precision and dynamic response. Consequentially line-friendly By impressing almost sinusoidal line currents, the harmonic losses known from conventional drive converters in the line transformer, low-voltage distribution and line feeder cables are avoided. Further, SINAMICS S150 does not cause any basic fundamental reactive power. This is because the line power supply factor cos ϕ is 1 independent of the load. However, SINAMICS S150 has an especially interesting positive feature as it can feed inductive or capacitive reactive current into the line supply over wide limits. This allows loads causing reactive power that are operating in parallel to be compensated, thus reducing expensive reactive power drawn from the public utility company. As standard, SINAMICS S150 is supplied with an integrated EMC filter for the second environment (C3) according to EN This means that the drive converter doesn t result in any inadmissible noise even in the high-frequency range. 4

37 Precision and force for every production The optimized inverter functionality of the SINAMICS S150 allows high-precision closed-loop speed and torque control with and without an encoder. Further, the DC link voltage of the SINAMICS S150 is regulated to keep it constant. This decouples the motor from the characteristics of the line supply voltage. This means that highest machine precision is guaranteed even when the drive system is connected to weak line supplies. This makes this drive the ideal solution, for example, for test stands, centrifuges, elevators, crosscutters, shears, conveyor belts, presses and cable winches. Completely seamless: Totally Integrated Automation High precision and fast processes profit because the intelligence has been shifted into the drive even for large drives! This is because as the degree of automation increases, then it is essential that the drive system is integrated into the higherlevel automation environment. It goes without saying that SINAMICS S150 is part of Totally Integrated Automation (TIA), the unique, common automation platform from Siemens. Totally Integrated Automation sets standards regarding integrated engineering, data management and communications. 5

38 The new level of simplicity Planning, commissioning and operator control the easy way SIZER minimizes engineering costs The Siemens SIZER engineering tool contains all of the SINAMICS components that can be used. This means that a drive system can be quickly and reliably engineered. SIZER allows users to engineer a wide range of drive systems. It is extremely easy to get to know SIZER because the graphic interface means that the tool can be intuitively used. Once learned, SIZER can be used to quickly and reliably engineer any SINAMICS drive system. Result: The manufacturing costs are significantly reduced as a result of the lower engineering time. STARTER speeds up commissioning STARTER is the standard commissioning tool that is used for all of the SINAMICS drives. The commissioning engineer can even quickly start-up complex systems without any special system know-how thanks to the straightforward, menu-prompted operator interface. The functions can be checked using integrated tests and the various parameters can be optimized. Trace functions graphically display signal characteristics, which makes it easier to optimize drive systems and troubleshoot them. Further, it allows data to be imported from electronic rating plates which significantly simplifies the parameterizing procedure. This is because the technician no longer has to transfer individual parameter numbers which was a tedious time-consuming procedure. Digital DRIVE CLiQ interface: Simply connect up! Seamless communications between the various components is a prerequisite for a modular drive system. The standard digital interface is known as DRIVE CLiQ and connects, as serial interface, the components in the cabinet and the motors. 6
