4 WSD 2000 (Weatherized Status Display) Introduction The WSD 2000 is a keypad reader with six general purpose contact inputs and three general purpose relay outputs. It communicates with the LINX system through a SmartMUX III (RS-422) multiplexer. Warning Caution The LINX System uses AC and DC power with potentials in ex cess of 30 volts. These voltages are potentially lethal. Only qualified technicians should work on these systems or assemblies while observing proper safety precautions. This equipment contains CMOS circuitry. These integrated circuits can be destroyed by electrostatic discharge (ESD) resulting from careless handling. To prevent this possibility, it is important that the fol lowing precautions be observed when servicing LINX System assemblies. All servicing should be performed at a static-free workstation. All work surfaces should be grounded. Pink poly bench top covering (anti-static pad) connected to earth ground is recommended. All service personnel should be connected to earth ground via wrist straps. Keep plastic, vinyl, and Styrofoam out of the immediate work area. Handle circuit boards and integrated circuits by their edges only. Use a grounded tip soldering iron only. Required Tools Required Materials INSTALLATION REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING TOOLS At a minimum: Standard Slot Screwdriver (blade < ) To attach leads to connector blocks. Screwdriver as Required To attach enclosure to junction box. Wire Stripper To prepare cable wires to attach to connectors. Digital Multimeter (DMM) To check circuitry. Security Screwdriver To attach security screws to enclosure. INSTALLATION REQUIRES SOME HARDWARE THAT IS NOT PROVIDED Hardware required will vary with the particular facility. 12 Vdc or 14 Vac transformer (not included) Transformer from Ault Inc. must be used. Specifications are as follows. 6 Wiring UL Compliance THE FOLLOWING WIRING CONSIDERATIONS APPLY TO ALL IN- STALLATIONS. 1. Observe all national, state, and local regulations with regard to conduit and wiring installation. See National Electrical Code Belden wire is called out in all LINX System technical reference materials as a reference. Any suitable substitution may be used from any of the several vendors that make wire that is cross-referenced to the Belden number. 3. Never route signal carrying wires in the same conduit or bundle with AC power. Signal quality will be degraded. 4. Ground every twisted pair shield (drain) wire at the upstream panel enclosure ground. 5. Provide a positive earth ground reference by grounding the enclosure. This grounding may be accomplished by attaching a green in sulated 12 AWG or greater copper wire from the mounting plate ground screw to a good earth ground. THE FOLLOWING APPLY SPECIFICALLY TO WSD Strip 0.125" of insulation from the end of each wire on the cable leads and transformer cable. 2. Attach communication, contact input, and relay output leads as illustrated in Figure Attach 12 VDC or 14 VAC transformer leads to connections on J4 connector. Note: Do not connect 14 VAC transformer to a receptacle controlled by a switch. For UL 294 compliance, either 14 VAC or 12 VDC can be used for powering the WSD For UL 1076 compliance, 12 VDC power from a Diebold BBU+ power supply must be used to power the WSD Note: Install Recoton Model T-81 surge protector for 14 Vac primary. Electrical Input Ratings Revised 12/95 For AC powered unit: 14 VAC 0.2 A 2.8 W Hz For DC powered unit: 12 VDC 0.2 A 2.4 W WSD 2000 Installation Guide 3
