14 2 Device installation The device has been developed for practical application in a harsh industrial environment. Accordingly, the installation process has been kept simple. The following sequence has proven itself in practice during installation: Unpack delivery and inspect Assemble the modules Remove pre-installed modules from the housing Install the installation cable on the modules Mount modules in the housing Mount device on the DIN rail or wall mounting plate Connect the patch cable 2.1 Unpacking and checking Before you start assembly, inspect the delivered goods for the following points: Do the goods match your order? Are the individual parts undamaged? Is the delivery complete (see page 22 Scope of delivery )? 2.2 Installing modules You will receive the device with modules preinstalled according to your order. You will require the following tools (not included in the delivery): 1 Cross-tip screwdriver 1 Strip tool 1 Splicer (with OF cables) Note: Observe the minimum bend radius provided by the cable manufacturer. 14 Release 01 12/11

15 2.2.1 Remove the module from the housing Proceed as follows: Loosen the 2 screws on the front of the module and pull the module forward out of the housing. Figure 9: Removing the module Note: If you would like to add another module to the device, please refer to chapter Housing expansion for additional modules on page 20. Release 01 12/11 15

16 2.2.2 Installation of installation cables on LC and SC modules Proceed as follows: Loosen the cable gland. Guide the installation cable through the cable gland in the module. Remove the jacket from the installation cable to a sufficient length for termination. When using a double module: Install 12 fibers on both sides. Tighten the cable gland. Fix the strain relief. Note: Follow the safety instruction from the splicer manufacturer. Note: When performing fusion splicing, we recommend you to use heat shrink protectors with a diameter of 1.3 mm after shrinkage and a length of 25 to 35 mm. Note: When performing mechanical splicing, we recommend you to use crimp splice protectors with a width of 1.3 mm and a length of 25 to 35 mm. A) Splice the pigtails to the fibers of the installation cable and fix the splice position in the splice holder. Or: B) Terminate the fibers with the Brilliance connectors. Place the fiber into the fiber bracket. Note: The module has space for a maximum of 15 m of fiber supply. Insert the connectors into the adapters until it locks into place Installation of installation cables on CU modules Proceed as follows: Install the installation cables into the RJ45 Keystone jacks (see product documentation from the Keystone jacks manufacturer). Press the Keystone jacks into the cutout in the module until it locks into place, beginning with cable 3, and continuing with cable 4, then cable 2 and finally cable 1 (see fig. 17 Cables arrangement Top view ). 16 Release 01 12/11
