These offerings deliver yet higher levels of processor performance by incorporating the recently announced 1.6 GHz or 1.5 GHz Intel Xeon MP processors. The xseries 360 compresses big server performance and high-availability features into an amazingly slim 3 U-high, rack drawer. It is packed with advanced technology that provides four-way, SMP-capable power, PCI-X architecture, Enterprise X-Architecture, high availability, scalability, and a surprisingly large internal data storage capacity. 2 Description Related Options xseries 1.5 GHz 512 KB L3 Cache Upgrade with Xeon Processor MP (19K4639) is a 1.5 GHz Xeon MP processor that supports internal processing speeds of 1.5 GHz and external processing operations to memory at 100 MHz. It contains an integrated, full-speed, 512 KB L3 cache. xseries 1.6 GHz 1 MB L3 Cache Upgrade with Xeon Processor MP (19K4647) is a 1.6 GHz Xeon MP processor that supports internal processing speeds of 1.6 GHz and external processing operations to memory at 100 MHz. It contains an integrated, full-speed, 1 MB L3 cache. These processor options support up to four-way SMP applications in the xseries 360. A voltage regulator module (VRM), specifically designed to support this xseries server, is included. 256 MB PC1600 ECC DDR SDRAM RDIMM (33L3281) contains a single, 256 MB registered dual-in-line memory module (RDIMM). 512 MB PC1600 ECC DDR SDRAM RDIMM (33L3283) contains a single, 512 MB RDIMM. 1 GB PC1600 ECC DDR SDRAM RDIMM (33L3285) contains a single, 1 GB RDIMM. These high-speed, double data rate (DDR) RDIMMs are synchronized to the processor so that once addressed, data can be transferred on both edges of the clock signal. This significantly improves performance of the new 100 MHz, externally clocked, Xeon MP processor. Each RDIMM can support up to 1600 MB/s data transfers. RDIMM specifications: 184-pin Gold-plated 2.5 v 1.7-inch tall xseries 370 W Hot-Swap Redundant Power Supply (31P6108) is a 370-watt, auto-sensing power supply option designed for the xseries 360. They deliver excellent scalability for adding memory, adapter cards, or multiple processors. Powerful 1.6 GHz or 1.5 GHz Xeon MP processors contain 1 MB or 512 KB ECC L3 and 256 KB L2 caches, that utilize 64-byte cache lines. Four connectors for Xeon MP processors are standard on the system board. High-speed, PC1600 ECC SDRAM provides excellent processor-to-memory subsystem performance. The xseries 360 system architecture is highly tuned and designed to optimize the powerful Xeon MP processors. This architecture consists of the following key components: Xeon MP processors Memory I/O controller (MIOC) System memory card PCI-X host-bridge controller These Xeon MP processors use 100 MHz common clock speed for external operations. 200 and 400 MHz source synchronous strobes are used to support 200 MHz (double pumped) address and 400 MHz QP data buses to the memory controller. This allows up to 3.2 GB/s data transfers between memory and the processor The MIOC supports: Data flow between the processor and memory, and to the PCI-X host-bridge controller High-speed port to exploit external PCI X expansion Connect an optional RXE-100 Remote Expansion Enclosure Chipkill ECC memory function Eight PC1600 DDR memory sockets are included on the memory card. The memory is two-way interleaved that supports up to 3.2 GB/s data transfers to the memory controller. The PCI-X host-bridge controller resides between the PCI buses and memory controller. From the start, IBM programs help you purchase servers, get them running, and keep them running over the long haul. IBM can help your company maintain ownership of technology leadership network servers. IBM Server Start Up Support provides additional installation assistance during the first 90 days from the start of your warranty period on select devices, adapters, and network operating systems from IBM and non-ibm vendors. IBM on-site, three-year limited warranty with next-business-day service (same-business-day service optionally available) protects your investment if a problem occurs. This service also includes replacement of parts identified through PFA. The ServerProven 8 program lets you confidently configure your server with various devices and operating systems. This Web-based program provides compatibility information from actual testing of the xseries 360 with various adapters and devices. The ServerGuide CD library includes online publications, in addition to utilities and drivers that provide assisted loading of popular network operating systems. Electronic support on the Web provides additional support in an easy-to-use format Product Positioning xseries 360 servers enhance the xseries line. Positioned between the xseries 342 and the xseries 370, they feature a new, high-density, 3 U mechanical platform that supports higher clocked Xeon MP processors, PCI-X architecture, and high-speed, DDR memory. xseries 360 servers provide additional processing, expandability, and high-availability features over that of the xseries 342. These features make them ideal for handling complex, business-critical e-business applications that must be supported by space-saving, rack-optimized servers. The xseries 370 is designed for extremely complex, compute-intensive applications requiring up to eight-way processing power and large memory support. The xseries 360 provides excellent four-way processing capability with up to 1.6 GHz Xeon MP processors and high-speed memory and PCI-bus architecture. It can support tremendous I/O capability through the addition of an optionally available RXE-100 Remote Expansion Enclosure. This makes the xseries 360 an excellent fit for today and future enterprise e-business applications. The installation guide has easy-to-use text and pictorials to enable users to quickly set up their xseries 360. ServerGuide contains online publications and drivers to support the xseries 360. In addition, it includes a set of easy-to-use utilities that provides assisted installation via CD of several popular network operating systems. IBM Director system management software is included. IBM system BIOS is loaded from a flash EEPROM into system memory. This BIOS provides instructions and interfaces designed to support the standard features of the xseries 360 and to maintain compatibility with many current software programs. To view detailed information on the Internet about IBM and non-ibm devices, adapters, software, and network operating systems supported with xseries Servers, enter: Customers can contact their IBM representative, IBM Business Partner, the HelpCenter, or refer to the IBM Sales Manual for information on the compatibility of hardware and software for xseries servers. The Sales Manual is updated periodically as new features and options are announced that support these servers. Limitations The xseries 360 servers contain a memory card with eight DIMM sockets. A maximum of 8 GB of system memory is supported by adding a 1 GB PC1600 ECC DDR SDRAM RDIMM in each of the 8 DIMM sockets. All supported system memory is addressable through direct memory access (DMA). The xseries 360 supports 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1 GB, 2.5 V, 184-pin, 16-byte, RDIMMs. Supported RDIMMs can co-exist in the same server; however, due to two-way interleaving, memory DIMMs of the same capacity must be installed in pairs. Refer to the Planning Information section or the xseries server Web page memory options. Microprocessor SMP upgrades must be of the same type and clock speed. Mixing microprocessors of different speeds or cache size is not supported. Customers should use the version of ServerGuide that ships with the system, or a later version, to load software and drivers. Earlier versions of ServerGuide may not be compatible with the server. Refer to the Software Requirements section for operating system limitations. Customer Responsibilities Planning Information xseries 360 and Related Options The xseries 360 and related options are designated as customer setup. Customer setup instructions are shipped with systems and options. Bay Configuration The xseries 360 contains five customer accessible drive bays on the right side of the server. The top two bays contain the standard CD-ROM and 1.44 MB diskette drive. Three, 3.5-inch, slim-high, hot-swap drive bays are located beneath these two bays. Two of these bays contain the standard 36.4 GB hot-swap HDDs. The IDE CD-ROM is cabled directly to the IDE port. The three hot-swap bays are connected to the integrated Ultra160 SCSI controller through an integrated circuit. Internal SCSI Cabling The xseries 360 contains a DASD backplane supporting three hot-swap, SCA-2-compliant drive bays. For configurations where an optional ServeRAID controller is used to support internal RAID applications, a separate SCSI cable is provided with the server to attach to the ServeRAID controller to a connector on the hot-swap backplane. Memory Support The following memory options are supported: 256 MB PC1600 ECC DDR SDRAM RDIMM (33L3281) 512 MB PC1600 ECC DDR SDRAM RDIMM (33L3283) 1 GB PC1600 ECC DDR SDRAM RDIMM (33L3285) PCI-X Adapter Installations The xseries 360 contains PCI-X architecture. There are six full-length slots that support PCI-X and PCI adapters of various clock speeds. The following chart provides configuration restrictions based on the type of adapter being installed. Bus 2 supports: One 133 MHz/64-bit PCI-X adapter in slot one Or two 100 MHz/64-bit PCI-X adapters Or two 66 MHz/64-bit PCI-X adapters Or two 66 MHz/64-bit PCI adapters Or two 33 MHz/64-bit PCI adapters Bus 1 supports: Four 66 MHz/64-bit PCI-X adapters Or two 66 MHz/64-bit PCI adapters Or four 33 MHz/64-bit PCI adapters Rack Installations xseries U, rack-drawer models are designed to be installed in a 19-inch rack cabinet designed for 26-inch deep devices, such as the NetfBAY42 SR or NetBAY25 SR. If using a non-ibm rack, the cabinet must meet the EIA-310-D standards with a depth of at least 28 inches. Also, adequate space (approximately two inches for the front bezel and one inch for air flow) must be maintained from the slide assembly to the front door of the rack cabinet to allow sufficient space for the door to close and provide adequate air flow. Power Considerations The xseries 360 includes two standard 370-watt, hot-swap power supplies. They provide sufficient power to support redundant power in the standard xseries 360 configurations. An optional xseries 370 W Hot-Swap Redundant Power Supply must be installed to maintain n+1 power redundancy in configurations that exceed any one of the following: Three or more processors Six or more memory RDIMMs

8 Four or more PCI adapters Two or more HDDs Cable Orders: The 10/100 Mbps, full duplex, Ethernet PCI controller, standard with xseries 360, is connected directly to a RJ-45 connector. The RJ-45 connector provides a 10BaseT or 100Base-TX interface for connecting twisted-pair cable to the Ethernet network. Cabling is not included with the server. To connect the Ethernet controller to a repeater or switch, use an unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable with RJ-45 connectors at both ends. For 100 Mbps operation, Category 5 cabling must be used. For 10 Mbps operation, Category 3, or better, cabling must be used. There are no additional cabling requirements, other than for system power, keyboard, mouse, and monitor connections. Installability: The xseries 360 requires about 20 minutes for installation. Installation includes unpacking, setting up, and powering on the system. Additional time is required to install an operating system, additional adapters, or features. A set unattended boot mode allows the system keyboard to be locked to all entries except the password and at the same time allows other computers on the network to access the system disk drive. A selectable boot sequence can be used to prevent unauthorized installation of software or removal of data from the diskette drive. Limitations: The xseries 360 has no security intrusion detection; therefore, it should be installed in a rack environment that provides security through lockable doors or other security measures. It is a customer s responsibility to ensure that the server is secure to protect sensitive data. The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities.
