4 1. GETTING STARTED At this time we offer our thanks for your purchase of this SiO controller. This instruction manual gives detailed information including handling the controller and operating methods, so please read it carefully and use it correctly. After installing the unit, keep this manual nearby so that everyone who handles it can use this manual as needed. This instruction manual is for use with SiO controllers (SiO-C/SiO2/SiO2PNP/SiO3). Versions covered are: SiO-C:Version 2.00 onward, SiO2/SiO2PNP:Version 1.00 onward, SiO3:Version 1.00 onward. The version is listed on the side surface of the controller. 5 1.2 Ensuring safe usage To ensure safe use read instructions carefully and use correctly. Content shown below is for protecting the customer and others from hazards, injury, and loss of materials or assets. WARNING This tag signifies the Possibility of death or major injury. CAUTION This tag signifies the Possibility of injury or material loss or damage. WARNING Please basically regard any handling or operation not described in this manual as something you must not do. Install safety measures so that the overall system will respond in a safe manner even if the controller fails or an abnormality such as signal wire breakage or momentary power outage occurs. This product cannot be used with equipment that directly involves human life. Always turn off the power if doing service work, etc. Never touch the controller with moist hands since this could cause electrical shocks. Mount the controller on a non-combustible material. Fire might otherwise occur. Do not apply other than the specified voltage to any of the connectors. Do not connect wires, parts or terminals to the wrong polarity. Do not dismantle or modify the controller. CAUTION The controller is a precision instrument. Do not drop it or apply strong impacts to it. 10 3.2 Controller operation Controller program Use the SiO2 controller to set conditions for turning the output ON, and period that it is ON. Use the dedicated SiO-Programmer to edit or register the program. Set the following 4 items 1. ON conditions Conditions for turning the output ON 2. Status Condition where output is ON or in standby (wait) time 3. OFF conditions Output must already be ON as condition for turning it OFF 4. Output method Method for output Example: To set (pulse) OUT1 to ON five seconds after IN1 (pulse) sets to ON 5 second period See 4. 11 3.2.2 Cycle time Input Processing (acquiring data) Program processing Output processing (setting data) The SiO controller repeatedly runs this processing. The time for executing these three processes as one step or cycle is called the cycle time. Cycle time on the SiO controller is 5 msec. This cycle time is a fixed period regardless of the number of registered programs Input response time An input ON/OFF time of at least 10 msec is necessary. A time shorter than 10 msec will prevent data from being loaded. The input response time is therefore set to 10 msec + the cycle time. 3-5

12 3.3 Installation Installing the controller SiO Controller Be sure to comply with the following precautions when installing the controller. Avoid using in places exposed to direct sunlight. Do not let any foreign objects get inside the controller. Avoid using in places with high temperatures, high humidity, or large amounts of dust particles such as metal powder, cutting chips and dust Wiring to the controller Do the AC adapter and I/O cable wiring as follows. Always shut the power off before starting the wiring work. 1 Wiring to the controller and power connector Connect 24 volts DC to the power connector. We recommend using a dedicated AC adapter. 13 3.4 Making the settings SiO-C SiO2/SiO2PNP SiO3 1:RUN switch 2:Timer-1/Timer RUN switch Operate the RUN switch to run or stop the program. Setting the switch to RUN (right side) runs the program and setting the switch to the left side stops it. At STOP, the outputs are all OFF. When registering the program from the SiO-Programmer, set the RUN switch to STOP Setting the timer The SiO controller has 2 timer setting trimmers. These are used if T1, T2 were selected in the program. SiO-C SiO2/SiO2PNP/SiO3 Short Short Long Settable from minimum 0 seconds to maximum 5 seconds (initial value). The maximum value can be changed on the SiO-Programmer (up to 300 seconds). Long CAUTION Set the trimmer with a small flat-bladed (minus) screwdriver. 3-7

If connected to an inductive load such as a relay, always check the load current from the relay. Also, always connect a reverse current surge protector diode to the coil. (*1) Set the total load current flow to 1.0 amperes or less for each controller. As an option, an I/O cable <P47-115> with a 2 meter cable, and all types of cables with e-con connectors are available. To find more details see 5. 24 4. SiO-Programmer The SiO-Programmer is software for making program settings. It can be downloaded from our company website and used free of charge. A USB cable (microb USB2.0) is required for communication with the PC. 25 Connecting the USB cable The USB cable connects to a USB connector. The USB connector is MicroB (USB2.0). You must install a USB driver in order to communicate via USB. 27 6. TROUBLESHOOTING Check the following items for help when you notice an abnormality such as the unit not operating or operation different from operation up to now. Cause 1 Troubleshoot Is power being supplied to the controller? Supply power of 24 volts DC at 0.3 amperes. Check that the controller power supply indicator is lit up. If 24 volts DC is supplied but power indicator does not light up then the internal fuse may have blown. Contact us for assistance. Cause 2 Troubleshoot Is the RUN switch set to RUN? Run switch will not operate unless set to RUN. Check the switch position. Cause 3 Troubleshoot Is wiring terminated correctly? Check the wiring connected to the devices. Cause 4 Troubleshoot Power supply might not have sufficient capacity. Required power supply capacity is 0.3 amperes. Check the power supply capacity if you are not using the AC adapter supplied by our company. Cause 5 Troubleshoot Check that the power supply cables and I/O cables are correctly attached. Check that the power supply connector and the I/O cable connector are properly attached. Remove each connector and then carefully reinsert it. 6-1
