2 Assembly Approach The SFI and IFI desks are assembled in the same way; the difference being the dimensions of the tops and modesty panels. In this way, these instructions serve both units. These instructions are prepared specifically for the Princess Noura Bint Abdul Rahman University prototypes. The photography is of the self-same units shipped. Parts Identification These parts are for the SFI model desk. The IFI model desk has the same components, but the top and modesty panel are dimensionally wider. The flipit unit installs the same way in both units. Six 3/4 #2 Phillips drive wood screws for installing the flipit collar. 4 Tools for assembly Cordless power driver #2 Phillips driver bit #2 Phillips screwdriver Flat blade screwdriver Prepare the work area Make assembly on a clean, carpeted floor or use a furniture blanket. Keep metal parts organized so they don t get under your work and scratch the surfaces. WARNING Follow all power tool manufacturer safety instructions to avoid injury. 1. Install base panels, left & right Place desktop on a padded floor. The 8 edge is the user / keyboard front edge. Capture the joining fixtures for the right and left base panels, then tighten with #2 Phillips driver. To distinguish right from left, look for the placement of the wire grommets at the back of the completed unit. Be careful to not over-tighten the joining screws. 5 2. Install modesty panel Install six pins about half-way, ready to push home. Check the alignment of the cam locks in the modesty panel so the arrows are in line with the pin hole, which is the open position. Lift the modesty panel into place and push pins home to hold it in place. Use a #2 Phillips screw driver to tighten the cam locks. Insert Position Locked Position Cam Lock Operation Arrow aligns with the pin for insertion. Arrow is at a right angle to the pin when locked. 6 3. Install CPU shelf Align the CPU shelf cam locks for pin insertion. In the base and modesty panels, insert four pins about half-way. Move CPU shelf into position, push pins home, tighten cam locks with #2 Phillips screwdriver. To install the CPU shelf footer, use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to install two post pins. Align cams for insertion, place footer on pin posts, insert cams through base panel, tighten the cam locks. 7 4. Install floor glide levelers Four floor glides are installed by simply screwing them in. Spin them in all the way, so if the floor is level, the desk will also be level. When the desk is placed on the floor, and it is determined that adjustment is needed, use the rear levelers first and make the smallest adjustment necessary for stability. 8 5. Install the keyboard tray Use two 1/2 wood screws per bracket to install the keyboard tray. Use the pilot holes provided. Using the self-tapping machine screws supplied, install L brackets to the keyboard tray. Tabs should be oriented in so there is room for the lock to be installed. Install the machine screws in the fourth hole from the L. 6. Install wire manager Place desk on its back. Remove adhesive strip from wire manager and press into position in line with the side wire grommets. 9 7. Install flipit LOK The finished position of the LOK assembly. Locate the pilot holes for the LOK and install with two 1/2 wood screws using #2 Phillips power driver. Place the cowl over the key lock assembly and install with two 1/2 wood screws from the top. Insert the end of the lock bar through the dogbone assembly before installing screws. 10 7. Install flipit Kit With the desk on its feet, grasp the flipit assembly, open the lid from the frame. This allows the arms to extend below the assembly so it can be inserted into the cut out. Approach the cut out at a diagonal, then seat the unit in the hole. Use a #2 Phillips power driver to install the collar. Install six 3/4 wood screws at the corners, and two above the gas spring mounting post. 11 There are two cables that attach the flipit arm to the keyboard tray. Each cable has an eyelet that is inserted through a slot in the tray. Choose a slot that allows the cable to clear the mechanism. Use beta clips to secure the cable ends. This image is not from the Princess Noura University prototype, but it illustrates the cable placement. Install gas spring Remove the locking hub from the silver shaft end of the gas spring cylinder using a flat blade screwdriver. Press the end onto the mounting post. 12 Monitor Mounting IMPORTANT NOTE: When handling your LCD display, take care to protect the screen from damage by placing packing blankets on work surfaces. Place the display on a protected surface to keep it from being damaged as shown. Make cable connections and route them through the flipit top, ready for complete connection later. Attach LCD Display to flipit Grasp the LCD with both hands and capture the mounting surf ace. Gravity will hold the LCD in place. When the flipit closes, a gravity pin will keep the mounting device nested. Check your clearances Your LCD monitor should be installed as high on the lid as possible, with clearance of 1/2 or less between lid support flange and monitor. Achieving this position is important so the center of gravity is correct to keep the flipit lid closed. WRONG Move up 1 notch. RIGHT Space = 1/2 or less WRONG Move down 1 notch. The VESA mount ships installed in the set of mounting holes one step lo wer than the top. If you measure more than 1/2 clearance between the monitor and the lid support flange, use the top set of mounting holes to put it in the correct r ange. If the monitor does not clear the flange, choose a lo wer set. Additional sets of mounting holes, set 1/2 apart, are provided to achieve the ideal position. If you experience a problem keeping the lid closed with the monitor mounted as descr ibed, your monitor may be lighter weight than expected.
