Essentials vs. Advanced Essentials Provides insight into network requirements Helps identify potential weak areas Mandatory part of every implementation Advanced Provides deep dive into weak areas Provides deep dive analysis and remediation Delivered by qualified partners Essentials can also be combined with add-on solutions from partners. For more information see here:
Networking Readiness add-on Essentials can also be combined with add-on solutions from partners. These solutions enable traffic simulation to provide insights into network performance Currently IR has a pre-assessment tool in preview that s available free of charge for 30 days Click here for more information:
Advanced assessment triggers Uncertainty on (correct) QoS implementation Known issues with existing networking equipment Known quality issues for Skype for Business Doubts around meeting network performance goals Possible issues raised during essentials assessment Wireless assessment Need for replacement of hardware On-site reconfiguration of equipment needed Qualified advanced assessment partners

Click Why network to edit Master readiness title style assessment? Manage risks Introducing new workloads to the network always creates some risk that the new solution might not perform as expected; existing solutions might suffer due to emerging bandwidth bottlenecks Real-time communication is very sensitive to network quality; people have high expectations when it comes to voice quality Discuss and apply recommended practices; assess the impact to the network; set up the project for successful deployment
Click to edit Master title style Network readiness assessments objectives Unveil risk areas Helps determine potential weak spots in the network Prevents congestion points before implementation Provides recommendations for network configuration Guides through network optimization such as QoS Prepares for additional network activities Readies customer to redeliver through lifecycle

Questionnaire review Replace example slides with collected customer data. Use the next few slides to play back to the customer what you have learned from the questionnaire. It might make sense to use dedicated slides per site or functionality (e.g., a slide for telephony) depending on the learnings. In any case, you should identify highlights and lowlights. If some answers where not answered, or the answers were ambiguous, use the conversation to clarify. If there are additional concerns or questions, they should be added in this section as well. This information is crucial when creating a persona. It s better to ask too many questions than too few. We have to make sure we have all the information before moving forward.

Understanding Skype for Business traffic
Understanding Skype for Business traffic How does traffic flow While it might be clear to you, it needs to be understood by the network team as well. This section will educate the customer about Skype for Business traffic flows.
Click Types to of edit traffic Master title style Signaling traffic Signaling is done via Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Instant messages also travel via SIP SIP traffic goes always from Office 365 to the service Media traffic Audio, video, desktop/program sharing and file transfer are all examples of media traffic One-to-one For one-to-one media calls the traffic will go peer-to-peer if the network allows If network doesn t allow, it will proxy via Office 365 PSTN calls considered peer-to-peer calls between the Skype for Business client and the server or service Conferences All media sessions with more that two users or scheduled media sessions (sent out via Outlook invite) are hosted in Office 365 Therefore all traffic needs to go to Office 365 Other traffic There is also some http(s) traffic between client and service, which can be neglected from a bandwidth planning perspective (address book lookup, etc.)
Click UDP vs. to edit TCPMaster title style Signaling uses TCP SIP benefits from the reliability TCP provides UDP vs. TCP UDP is better suited for real-time traffic lost packets don t need to be retransmitted in realtime communication Can fall back to TCP if required (i.e., limited connectivity scenarios), but will affect quality Audio and video always prefer UDP over TCP In some scenarios, desktop/application sharing uses TCP File transfer uses TCP as well
Persona generation
Why generate personas? To properly reflect the users and the amount of bandwidth they generate Most customers won t have a detailed insight into the amount of traffic users will generate To provide a guideline on the way users will use Skype for Business
Complete Personas in the Bandwidth Calculator Contoso has 2 persona groups Everything is set to medium, all modalities are used Big difference is that there is a group of mobile workers that s in the office, 1 day per 2 weeks. All users are set to Online

To Prepare for the Close Out Stage
Persona description Contoso relies heavily on its travelling sales agents They constantly visit customers and spend, on average, only one day per week in the office. They need a flexible communication solution that allows them access to conferences and one-to-one conversations. In addition to voice, video and desktop sharing are often used to present to customers. They mostly connect over public Internet to Skype for Business. Contoso back-office workers Back-office workers work mostly out of the offices. They use Skype for Business mostly from their PCs while on the corporate network. Their most important real-time workload is voice, followed by desktop sharing.
