6 Overview The Smart Breaker products are designed to allow CPC s family of site controllers to command control panels that activate and deactivate lights. A breaker panel generally consists of a series of circuit breakers, each of which may be flipped from OFF to and from to OFF by pulsing a DC voltage to the breaker's input. Each breaker also will have a proof checking device that can be read by a controller and used to compare the actual state of the breaker to the "virtual" state of the breaker... The Cutler-Hammer Smart Breaker System CPC s Cutler-Hammer Board (CHB) is used to interface a Cutler-Hammer Breaker Panel to CPC s family of site controllers. Because each CHB behaves as three 6AI and six 8RO boards, and because CPC site controllers have a limited number of 6AIs and 8ROs, it is possible for installations with many breakers to exceed a single controller's I/O limit. The C-H Smart Breaker Gateway allows you to drive multiple CHB points from a single I/O point, and logically combine multiple proof values from CHB inputs into a single proof value. The Gateway allows you to control as many as four C-H panels with up to 42 breakers per panel (maximum of four CHBs) with a single device that behaves as one 6AI and two 8RO boards on the site controller network. Each virtual output point of the Gateway may be mapped to one or more individual breakers controlled by its associated CHBs..3. The MultiFlex CHB The MultiFlex CHB provides both the voltage necessary to change the breaker state and the proof value to verify the state change. Because as many as 42 individual breakers may be installed in a single CH lighting panel, one board per panel may be necessary. Each MultiFlex CHB may be connected to an E2, Einstein, or REFLECS controller using the RS485 I/O Network (for E2 or Einstein) or COM A&D (REFLECS). The CHB behaves identically to three 6AI board and six 8RO boards. 2 Mounting BREAKER INPUT +2VDC PULSE = CHANGE OF STATE BREAKER LIGHTS PROOF OUTPUT Panel Panel 2 Panel 3 Panel 4 (42 Breakers) (42 Breakers) (42 Breakers) (42 Breakers) MultiFlex CHB MultiFlex CHB MultiFlex CHB MultiFlex CHB INPUT TERM MULTIFLEX CHB CHB OUTPUT Gateway Board I/O Network TERM Figure - - C-H Smart Breaker System Layout (Overview).2. The breaker board has two 64 pin connectors on the back. Those connectors plug directly into the Cutler-Hammer circuit breaker panel, and provide 28VAC (one side grounded) power and all input and output connections to control the circuit breakers. The CHB circuit common will be grounded to the metal chassis of the Cutler-Hammer panel. The breaker board has two mounting holes for #8-32 screws, one above the other, approximately centered left and right. The board functions as I/O points for three 6AI boards and six 8RO boards to an E2 or Einstein. Most installations of CHB will require the RS485 Network wiring to the controller or a Smart Breaker Gateway. +5V+5V MultiFlex CHB Figure Gateway Board Gateway Termination Jumper Settings Power Wiring 4

TO OTHER RS485 DEVICES TO OTHER RS485 DEVICES The Tx and Rx LEDs indicate when the CHB is sending or receiving messages on the RS485 Network. The Tx LED blinks once every time the CHB sends a response to the E2, Einstein, or REFLECS. The Rx LED blinks once when the CHB receives a message. If the CHB is connected to the network and set up to communicate with the controller, you should see these lights blinking regularly. If they do not, there may be a problem with the network. TO CHB DEVICES SHIELDED TWISTED PAIR BELDEN #876 OR EQUIV Code A and B LEDs Code A and Code B LEDs indicate failure conditions. When these LEDs are OFF, there are no failures active. When one or both of these LEDs are blinking, there are failure conditions. The rate of blinking indicates the type of failure: Code A Failure Conditions Blinking fast (4 times/second) - There is a problem with the flash memory or hardware clock on this board. This generally means the board is bad and must be replaced. Blinking slow ( time/second) - The board is not receiving any messages addressed to it. This means either the I/O Network is down or it has not yet been commissioned in the E2, Einstein, or REFLECS Network Configuration screen. Code B Failure Conditions NOTE: Code B LED is not used on the New- Style CHB. 5 Networking 5.. The Cutler-Hammer Breaker Gateway The breaker may be connected to a CPC controller using a Gateway Board. The Gateway Board is a special interface device that allows CPC s E2, Einstein, or REFLECS site controllers to communicate with up to four MultiFlex C-H boards (CHB), as if each of them were a standard 6AI Analog Input board and two 8RO Boards. The CHB allows for group programming with the CPC Hand-Held Terminal (HHT). In addition to being an interface with the site controller, the Gateway Board also allows you use a CPC Hand-Held Terminal (HHT) device to program the CHB and program to set up the Group association for the breakers of each panel. Groups provide I/O point association between the panel breakers and the site controller. 5 C-H Smart Breaker Manual Rev

11 Gateway with Site Controller The Gateway communicates with the CPC site controllers (E2, Einstein, or REFLECS) via the RS485 I/O Network (COM A & COM D for REFLECS). The Gateway is one physical RS485 load on the I/O Network that simulates one 6AI and two 8RO Boards. To connect the Gateway to the CPC RS485 I/O Network, locate the I/O Network connector and remove it from the circuit board. Secure the wire leads to the connector orienting them as shown in Figure 3-4. When you are through securing the connections, carefully plug the connector back onto the circuit board. Wire the Gateway RS485 port in a daisy chain as all other I/O Network devices. The Gateway termination jumpers should be set to the termination position if it is at the end of the daisy chain CHB with Gateway The Gateway Board communicates with the C-H Breaker units via the Receiver Bus Network. The receiver bus may be connected to a maximum of four CHBs. Each panel has up to 42 breakers and one CHB to control these breakers. To connect the Gateway to CHB, locate the receiver bus connector and remove it from the circuit board. Secure the wire leads to the connector orienting them as shown in (Figure 3-4). When you are through securing the connections, carefully plug the connector back onto the circuit board. Then daisy chain the receiver bus to the 485 connector of each CHB. A maximum of four CHBs can be connected to a Gateway. The Gateway and the last CHB on the network should have the termination jumpers set in the terminated position. 6 CHB Dip Switch Settings ADDRESS POSITI -5 NETWORK ADDRESS (-3) POSITI 6-7 BAUD RATE (9600 or 9200) BOARD BOARD 2 BOARD 3 BOARD 4 BOARD 5 BOARD 6 BOARD 7 BOARD 8 BOARD 9 BOARD 0 BOARD BOARD 2 BOARD 3 BOARD 4 BOARD 5 BOARD 6 BOARD 7 BOARD 8 BOARD 9 BOARD 20 BOARD 2 BOARD 22 BOARD 23 BOARD 24 BOARD 25 BOARD 26 BOARD 27 BOARD 28 BOARD 29 BOARD 30 BOARD BAUD RATE 9600 BAUD Figure 6- - CHB Dip Switch Settings for Network Address and Baud Rates Set 6AI address (max range -6) and 8RO address (max range -3) using Figure 6-.
