2 WIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS 11/1/05 1. Q. Is this electrical system a handed/directional system? A. NO There is no right/left end or male/female end to the wireways that makes them a directional system. 2. Q. Why are we adding the wire system? A. Because of the flexibility it gives us in the configuration options we can offer to our customers and the ease of install and reconfiguration. 3. Q. What wiring configurations is the 810 system available in? A. The 810 is available in two different 10-wire systems: 622 (6) hot wires, (2) shared oversized neutral wires, (2) ground wires ((1) isolated ground and (1) building ground) 442 (4) hot wires, (4) independent neutral wires, (2) ground wires ((1) isolated ground and (1) building ground). 4. Q. What is the advantage of one configuration over the other? A. The 622 system allows you to feed more workstations from one power supply point. You have (3) convenience circuits and (3) isolated ground circuits available. (sometimes referred to as a 3+3 configuration) The 442 system provides the independent neutrals that some customers insist they must have. In our opinion, the 622 system is the better system to use. 5. Q. How many workstations will I be able to feed from one power infeed location? A. The question that must be asked right back when this question is posed would be What are you going to have powered in each workstation? Explanation: The typical limiting factor of how many workstations are on an infeed is the number of computers that are being used, specifically, the number of Amps each computer will draw. There is a tag on every UL listed electrical appliance that shows how many amps the appliance draws (ex: 1.5A = 1-1/2 amps). Once you know how many amps each computer will draw, that will help you determine how many computers you can put on any isolated ground circuit (the 4I, 5I & 6I on 622, or the 3I & 4I on 442). When doing your planning you should aim to maximum load a circuit so it will not have more than 16 amps planned for it. This gives you a cushion of 4 amps (on our 20 amp circuits) in case other electrical items are plugged in. See the following examples for how many workstations you could have on an isolated ground circuit based on the amps the computers draw: a) computers draw 2 amps each. 2 amps x 8 workstations = 16 amps, so 8 workstations max b) computers draw 2.5 amps each. 2.5 amps x 6 workstations = 15 amps, so 6 workstations max c) computers draw 3 amps each. 3 amps x 5 workstations = 15 amps, so 5 workstations max d) computers draw 3.5 amps each. 3.5 amps x 4 workstations = 14 amps, so 4 workstations max e) computers draw 4 amps each. 4 amps x 4 workstations = 16 amps, so 4 workstations max C:\Documents and Settings\Mary Lebeau\Desktop\810 elec\wwcommon 810 Questions.doc 11/1/05

3 6. Q. Both these configurations use 10-wires. What if the customer says they only have 8-wire power in their building? A. If their building supply is 422 (typical for an 8-wire configuration) they can still use our 622 system but the electrician will not power up two of the isolated ground circuits. This means you would spaceplan (3) convenience circuits and (1) isolated ground circuit. There are also several other hookup configurations we can now match. We just need to ask the customer before spaceplanning starts, what configuration of building wiring will you be supplying?. 7. Q. Can the 622 and the 442 systems be hooked together? A. No. We doubt there would ever be a situation where you would need to either. Most buildings would either be wired one way or the other, not both. The parts for each system are keyed so they can only be connected to the same system. 8. Q. Can the new wire systems be connected to the current 8-wire system used in WireWorks? A. A solution for this condition is being developed with a rollout in Q. So what do we do if we need to reconfigure an existing project that has the existing 8-wire WW directional electrical? A. The best thing to do is to segregate the 8-wire vs. the wire styles as much as possible, or convert the existing stations over to the wire system. Only WireWorks that was ordered after 1/1/02 is able to be converted to the wire electrical system. 10. Q. Where do we find the model numbers and part numbers for all the 810 electrical parts? A. Specifying sheets that show drawings of the actual parts, where they can be connected to other parts, specifying tips and model/part numbers are included with this introduction package. 11. Q. Is there an easy way to tell the difference between a 622 part and a 442 part? A. Yes. The 622 parts will have a green UL label on each part, and the 442 will have a light blue UL label. 4 WireWorks Product Specifying WIREWORKS 810 ELECTRICAL (10 Wire) Basic Specifications: The base component of our 10 wire modular electrical system is the rigid wireway in each powered panel. Rigid wireways are available in 24", 30", 36, 42", 48", 54", and 60" wide panels, at any of four heights (base, ADA, belt and standing). There are four port locations (see below, 2 labeled "WA", 2 labeled "WC") on each end of every rigid wireway except the 24 wireway that has two WC ports on one end only. The ports allow you to plug in the various other electrical products (see below). To help in specifying the electrical products, these port locations are labeled in the drawings below. By looking at the description of each of the electrical products that follow, you will have a guideline of what can and cannot be plugged into the various locations. Example: Basefeeds have C terminals. It can plug in wherever there are WC (Wireway C) terminals on the rigid wireway. A = Most electrical Accessories C = Circuit Receptacles Note: Rigid wireways may be attached to the horizontal frame members by snapping up from the bottom, or down from the top, depending on the position of the frame member. No screws or fasteners are required. All connection points have the letter N and an arrow pointing up to help you install the parts in the correct position. Identifying 622 vs. 442 parts: All 622 parts will have a green UL label applied to them. All 442 parts will have a light blue UL label applied to them. 8 WIREWORKS Product Specifying 810-WIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM There are two wiring configurations in the WireWorks 810 wire electrical system. The system contains 6 conductors ( gage), two neutrals (10 gage) and two grounds ( gage). The system contains 4 conductors ( gage), four neutrals ( gage), and two grounds ( gage). Both systems provide 20 amp, 0 volt capacity circuits. The standard duplex receptacles are rated at 15 amp, 0 volt capacity. The system may be connected to a building that has 8-wire power, but you will only use four of the six circuits. 13 810 ELECTRICAL 5 BASIC SPECIFYING RULES All of the situations shown on the accompanying pages can be summed up in 5 basic rules: 1. If you are jumping between two adjacent panels at 180, use a Panel Jumper If you are jumping around a 90 corner or across an intersection, use a Panel Jumper Panel Jumper connections at non-base height must be done behind raceway tiles. The panel jumpers will not fit behind acoustic tiles. 4. Power-Pass-Throughs are the same length as rigid wireways and are connected following rules 1,2 & To connect & 18 Power-Pass-Throughs to adjacent panels, you use a Power-Pass-through in the matching panel length, and one Panel Jumper 17. (see page 810SPEC 2-2, box S)
