1 This guide describes the function, instlltion nd opertion of the trnsmitter nd receiver. Unless otherwise stted, the terms HFX 100, HDMI extender, nd extender refer to both units. The term trnsmitter refers to the nd the term receiver refers to the. This product meets the pplicble requirements of IEC , Edition 1 (2007). Any service to this product must be crried out by Electronics nd its qulified service personnel. About the nd The HFX 100 HDMI extender comprises of trnsmitter (Tx) nd receiver (Rx) pir, which use one multimode fiber optic cble to trnsmit signl up to 300 meters (984 feet). The trnsmitter ccepts single HDMI input nd converts it to proprietry signl tht is sent over the fiber optic cble to the receiver. The receiver converts the signl bck to n HDMI output. The extender supports DDC nd HDCP pss-through. Fetures Signl extender converts the HDMI signl to proprietry formt tht cn be crried up to 300 meters (984 feet) without loss of signl integrity. Power supply Both the trnsmitter nd receiver re powered by 12 VDC, 1A power supply (provided). Disply Dt Chnnel (DDC) pss-through ensures tht the resolution nd refresh rte of the video input signl mtches the cpbilities of the disply device. High-bndwidth Digitl Content Protection (HDCP) pss-through ensures tht HDCP-complint outputs re ble to disply HDCP-encrypted content. 1

3 Pnels nd Cbles Front Pnel Both the trnsmitter nd receiver hve identicl front pnels. The trnsmitter LED lights green if the unit is receiving TMDS clock signl. The receiver LED lights green if the unit is receiving n opticl signl. When power is provided to the unit but there is no HDMI input, the front pnel lights mber. ATTENTION: Alwys use power supply provided by or specified by. Unless otherwise stted, the AC/DC dpters re not suitble for use in ir hndling spces or in wll cvities. The power supply is to be locted within the sme vicinity s the AV processing equipment in n ordinry loction, Pollution Degree 2, secured to the equipment rck within the dedicted closet, podium, or desk. The instlltion must lwys be in ccordnce with the pplicble provisions of Ntionl Electricl Code ANSI/NFPA 70, rticle 725 nd the Cndin Electricl Code prt 1, section 16. The power supply shll not be permnently fixed to building structure or similr structure. NOTES: The length of the exposed wires in the stripping process is criticl. The idel length is 3/16 inch (5 mm). If it is ny longer, the exposed wires my touch, cusing short circuit between them. If it is ny shorter, the wires cn be esily pulled out even if tightly fstened by the cptive screws. Do not tin the wires. Tinned wire does not hold its shpe nd cn become loose over time. b HDMI input connector Connect HDMI output to this mle connector. NOTE: With pproprite DVI-D to HDMI cbles or dpters, the unit will ccept DVI-D input. When the trnsmitter is receiving n HDMI input signl, the front pnel LED lights green. 3

4 c Opticl output connector Connect one end of one multimode fiber optic cble (not provided) into this LC connector. The other end connects into the LC input connector on the. The cble cn be up to 300 meters (984 feet) in length. CAUTION: Possible dmge to eyesight. The outputs continuous lser (Clss 1 rted), which my be hrmful nd dngerous to the eyes; use with cution. Do not look into the rer pnel fiber optic cble connector or into the fiber optic cble itself. Plug the ttched dust cp into the opticl trnsceiver when the fiber optic cble is unplugged. Possible rdition exposure. Use of controls or djustments or performnce of procedures other thn those specified herein my result in hzrdous rdition exposure. Rer Pnel c 12 VDC power input Connect the provided 12 VDC power supply to the bck pnel cptive screw connectors. When power is provided to the unit but there is no HDMI input, the front pnel lights mber. Connect the provided power supply to the (see pge 3). The front pnel LED lights mber. 3. Connect the provided power supply to the. The front pnel LED lights mber. 4. Connect the trnsmitter nd receiver using multimode fiber optic cble. 5. Connect the HDMI disply device to the. Do not power on the disply t this time. 6. Connect the HDMI source device to the (see pge 3). Do not power on the source t this time. 7. Power on the disply device. 8. Power on the source device. NOTE: The disply device must be powered on before the source device to llow correct DDC communiction between the disply nd the source while the source device is booting up. When the is receiving HDMI input, the front pnel lights green. When the is receiving n opticl input, the front pnel lights green. 4

5 Mounting Desktop Plcement Attch the four provided rubber feet to the bottom of the HFX 100 trnsmitter or receiver nd plce it in ny convenient loction. Rck Mounting UL guidelines for rck mounting The following Underwriters Lbortories (UL) guidelines re relevnt to the sfe instlltion of these products in rck: Elevted operting mbient temperture If the units re instlled in closed or multi-unit rck ssembly, the operting mbient temperture of the rck environment my be greter thn room mbient temperture. Therefore, instll the equipment in n environment comptible with the mximum mbient temperture (Tm: +122 F, +50 C) specified by. Reduced ir flow Instll the equipment in the rck so tht the equipment gets dequte ir flow for sfe opertion. Mechnicl loding Mount the equipment in the rck so tht uneven mechnicl loding does not crete hzrdous condition. Circuit overloding Connect the equipment to the supply circuit nd consider the effect tht circuit overloding might hve on overcurrent protection nd supply wiring. Consider the equipment nmeplte rtings when ddressing this concern. Relible erthing (grounding) Mintin relible grounding of rck-mounted equipment. Py prticulr ttention to supply connections other thn direct connections to the brnch circuit (such s the use of power strips). Rck mounting procedure To mount the unit on rck shelf, follow the instructions provided with the shelf ccessories.
