If you have optional drive shelves, position the left end cap in front of the drive shelf so that the holes in the end cap align with the fasteners on the left side of the shelf. Snap the end cap into place. 5 Repeat these steps for the right end cap.

5 Connect the drive shelves (if installed) Connect power cords and apply power Skip this section if you did not install optional, expansion drive shelves. See the Hardware Cabling Guide if you are using another configuration than what is shown, or if you are connecting an E800 controller shelf to SAS.0 (6 Gbit/second) drive shelves. Refer to the figures to connect SAS cables between controllers A and B in the controller shelf and the two I/O modules (IOMs) in each drive shelf. Confirm that the blue tabs on the SAS cables face the bottom of the cabinet, and make sure each connector clicks into place. CAUTION: Risk of electrical shock Before connecting the power cords, make sure that the two power switches on each shelf are off. Confirm that the two power switches on each shelf are off. Connect the two power cords for each shelf to different power distribution units (PDUs) in the cabinet or rack. One drive shelf Controller A Controller B Power Switch IOM A IOM B Power Switch Three drive shelves Controller A Controller B If you have drive shelves, turn on their two power switches first. Then, wait minutes before applying power to the controller shelf. IOM A IOM B Turn on the two power switches on the controller shelf. Do not turn off the power switches during the power-on process. The fans in each shelf are very loud when they first start up. The loud noise during start-up is normal. IOM A IOM A IOM B IOM B 5 6 Check the LEDs and the seven-segment display on the back of each controller. The seven-segment display shows the repeating sequence OS, Sd, blank to indicate that the controller is performing start-of-day processing. After the controller has booted up, the display shows the tray ID. See the E5700 and E800 System Monitoring Guide to learn about the LED states and the display codes. If any of the amber LEDs are on, there might be a problem with a component. Confirm you completed the installation steps correctly. If you are unable to resolve the problem, contact NetApp technical support.

6 Connect the data hosts Connect and configure the management connection Before making any cable connections, confirm that host bus adapters (HBAs) are installed in the data hosts. If you are using AIX, wait to connect the data hosts until after you have installed and configured the NetApp multipath driver. See the SANtricity System Manager Express Guide. See the Hardware Cabling Guide for lists of supported cables and transceivers, the best practices for cabling, and detailed information about the host ports for your controller. See the NetApp Interoperability Matrix ( for the supported host topologies. Insert the appropriate transceiver into each controller port that you plan to use, based on the host protocol and the host topology. Start with the lowest numbered controller port. You do not need transceivers for copper iscsi, SAS, or InfiniBand. Connect to the data hosts as follows: To use direct attach topology, connect each HBA directly to the host ports on the controllers, as in this example: HBA HBA A B HBA HBA Data hosts with redundant HBA ports Storage array with two host ports/controller Before connecting the storage array s management cables, you must first decide whether you will configure the storage array s management ports manually or using the SANtricity Quick Connect Utility. The Quick Connect Utility is a Java-based utility that you can install on any Windows 7 or Windows 0 laptop. You can use the utility to easily set the management port IP addresses, and configure other network related settings. Option (Recommended): Using the SANtricity Quick Connect Utility: E800 Management Port (P) E5700 Management Port (P) e0a 0a 0b e0b Go to Download and install the utility. P Follow the directions on the Wizard screens to configure your management port and configure the IP address of each controller. Connect an Ethernet cable to management port (labeled P) on each E800 or E5700 controller and connect the other end to your network. Do not use management port (labeled P). This port is reserved for NetApp technical support. EXP P EXP P P EXP EXP To use fabric topology, connect each HBA to a switch that is connected to the host ports on the two controllers as in this example. To zone a switch, follow the instructions in the appropriate SANtricity System Manager Express Guide. HBA HBA HBA HBA Data hosts with redundant HBA ports Redundant zoned switches A B Storage array with four host ports/controller

7 0a 0b P P EXP EXP Connect and configure the management connection After installing the hardware Option : Not using the SANtricity Quick Connect Utility: Connect an Ethernet cable between your laptop and management port (Labeled P) on controller A of the storage array. Controller A will be the top controller. After installing an E57, EF570, E8, or E8 storage array, you must decide whether to download and install SANtricity Storage Manager software and determine which SANtricity guide to read next. To start, answer Yes or No to the following questions. E800 Management Port (P) E5700 Management Port (P) e0a 0a 0b e0b P EXP P EXP P P EXP EXP Question Are you already using SANtricity Storage Manager to manage other E-Series storage arrays or EF-Series flash arrays, or do you want to have an aggregate view of more than one E5700 or E800 storage array? Do you plan to use a Mirroring feature? Yes No 5 Manually specify the following IP address and subnet mask on the laptop s Ethernet port that you physically connected to the storage array: IP address: Subnet Mask: Use the laptop s browser to access the storage array s management software using the following IP address: IP address: In the management software, go to Hardware tab and select Show back of shelf under Controller Shelf entity.
