Chapter 3 Installing and Setting Up the Components This section of the AKC 55 manual will explain, for each network component: (1) Description and Identification (5) Network connections (2) Mounting (6) Load connections (3) Setting the component s network address (7) Power connections (4) Hardware Options (8) Inspection of the installed component Chapter 3-1 Installing an AKC 55 Controller The AKC 55 is assembled from two circuit boards: the Central Processing Unit, or CPU (which includes the display sub-assembly) and the Power Supply & Communications Board (PS/COMM). The AKC 55 is available packaged two ways: (1) as a panel-mount for OEM installation, and (2) in a box enclosure with a hinged door. Either package may be ordered with or without an LCD display. AKCESS System Manual RC.IU.B1.22 4/
AKC 55 with Enclosure Mounting Using the pre-drilled holes, mount the AKC 55 securely to a solid surface. Operating temperature must be in the range from 32 o F to 122 o F, and relative humidity in the range from 0% to 95% (non-condensing). Avoid mounting the unit where it could be subject to excessive vibration. akc55box.dwg 2/99 AKC 55 Addressing The AKC 55 s in a network are addressed by setting two rotary switches (shown in the following illustration) on the CPU board. There is a cut out on the lower left side of the CPU shield plate through which the switches can be set with a small screwdriver. Each AKC 55 must have a unique address. The host network must havean AKC 55 addressed 00." After the address is set or changed, power to the unit must be interrupted and restored for the new address to take effect and be stored. 3-2 System Manual RC.IU.B1.22 4/99.1 AKCESS
CPU Battery Enable Before the AKC 55 is put in service, make sure that the BATTERY ENABLE Berg jumper is put in the ON position. A clearly labeled opening is provided in the CPU shield so that the battery enable jumper can be moved. If the battery is not enabled, the controller will lose its configuration whenever the power is interrupted. HEY! Enable your AKC 55 battery, or you ll lose your configuration!! Modem Installation Install the modem inside the AKC 55 box, or choose a location for the modem close enough to an AKC 55 so that the 3 foot connecting power cable supplied with the modem can be used. Connect the modem to the modem data port on the PS/COMM board. Then, connect the modem power cable to the PS/ COMM board terminals labeled MODEM POWER using the power cord supplied. (A modem can be added after the initial installation, but only modems supplied by Danfoss can be used in an AKCESS system.) Telephone Line Installation For best results, the telephone line used should be a dedicated voice grade two-wire central office line. Bring the telephone cable to the modem location and terminate it to a standard RJ-11 jack. Then connect the modem to the RJ-11 jack with the modular telephone cord supplied with your modem. If a PBX line must be used, the PBX vendor should be consulted for proper wiring. Ethernet Adapter Connection There are two Danfoss ethernet adapter kits: COMM-E-120 and COMM-E-220, for 120 and 220 VAC respectively. Connect the ethernet adapter (using one of the cables in the kit) to the serial port connector on the bottom of the AKC 55 box. Then follow the instructions that accompany the adapter kit to establish commuincations. AKCESS System Manual RC.IU.B1.22 4/
Host Network Cabling & Termination Connect the AKC 55 using RS-485 host network cable (3-conductor stranded shielded AWG 18) at the Host Network Connection terminals on the PS/COMM board. Connect the shield to the SHIELD or GND terminal ONLY at the first AKC 55. At each controller between the first and last ones on the network, wirenut the shields together so that the shield is continuous, and insulated from ground, for the entire length of the network. Leave the shield loose at the last controller, but insulate it from ground. If there is more than one AKC 55 in the host network, make sure that the termination jumpers are set in the OFF position for all AKC 55 s in the host network except for the first and the last ones in the physical chain. Make sure the termination jumpers for the first and last AKC 55 s are set to the ON position. The drawing immediately below should make clear that the correct setting of an AKC 55 s termination jumpers does not depend on its address but rather on its physical location in the host network. Remember, set termination ON for the first and last AKC 55's, and OFF for all the rest!! 3-4 System Manual RC.IU.B1.22 4/99.1 AKCESS
I/O Network Cabling & Termination Up to five I/O network cables can be connected to an AKC 55 at the terminals labeled I/O Network on the PS/COMM board. There is no polarity to observe; connect the two signal wires to the terminals labeled A and B, and the cable shield to the terminal. Remember to terminate the last board or other node on each main cable run, as we showed you on page 2-2! Power Wiring Power selection jumpers are located on the PS/COMM board. The unit is shipped with the jumpers positioned for 220 VAC. Before connecting power, position the jumpers as shown in the illustration for the appropriate supply voltage. Power connection is then made to the terminals labeled POWER IN, observing the terminal labeling, where G = ground, N = neutral, and L = line. When the PS/COMM board has power, its red LED labeled POWER ON will light. AKCESS System Manual RC.IU.B1.22 4/
AKC 55 Installer Final Inspection When an AKC 55 is completely installed, you will see: First, the CPU side... (1) The CPU shield is in place, secured by its six nylon cap nuts. (2) The BATTERY ENABLE Berg jumper has been put in the ON position. (3) The CPU STATUS LED is lighted. (See #6 below) (4) The address is correctly set (00 for master, 01, 02, 03, etc. for other AKC 55 s). Now, look at the PS/COMM board... (5) The main power selector jumper (110 VAC-220 VAC) is correctly set. (6) Power of the correct voltage is connected to the POWER IN terminals. (7) The power LED is lighted. (8) If a system modem is to be connected to this AKC 55, the modem is connected to the modem data port by the cable furnished. Make sure that the modem has power as required. (9) The RS 485 cable to other AKC 55 s in the host network is connected and if this is the first or last AKC 55 in the host network, the termination jumper is in the ON position. (10) All I/O cables are connected, and each main I/O run is terminated using one of the terminators shipped with the AKC 55, and a terminator remains in place across each unused set of A & B network connections on the PS/COMM board. 3-6 System Manual RC.IU.B1.22 4/99.1 AKCESS
