2 Overview ² This reference design illustrates how a CEA 045 module adaptor box system can be constructed using off-the-shelf parts. ² No treatment is given to the design or selection of the system enclosure. It is assumed that product manufacturers will select appropriate materials/components for this purpose. ² The Modbus gateway described can be acquired from Moxa ( and the female CEA 045 connector can be acquired from TE Connectivity ( contact Charles Fry, cdfry@te.com) ² This design was created in support of the CSI4 project funded by the California Energy Commission and managed by EPRI.

4 FUNCTIONAL ELEMENTS Adjustable Pull High/Low Resistors for the RS-485 Port In some critical RS-485 environments, you may need to add termination resistors to prevent the reflection of serial signals. When using termination resistors, it is important to set the pull high/low resistors correctly so that the electrical signal is not corrupted. Jumpers JP3 and JP4 are used to set the pull high/low resistor values for the serial port. To Set the pull high/low resistors to 50 KΩ, which is the factory default ETHERNET PORT = RJ45 FEMALE 8 setting, leave the two jumpers open. To set the pull high/low resistors to KΩ, use the jumper caps to short the two jumpers. MGate MB 380 Jumpers 5. Software Installation To install MGate Manager, insert the MGate Document & Software CD into your PC s CD-ROM drive. Locate and run the setup program, which will be named MGM_Setup_[Version]_Build_[DateTime].exe (e.g., MGM_Setup_Ver..0_Build_ exe) and follow the on-screen instructions. For more information about MGate Manager, please refer to the MGate MB3000 User s Manual. 6.
