Slide 0 Welcome to this Fujitsu Web Based Training. This module provides a technical introduction to the ETERNUS LT Tape Libraries. There are three models; LT 20 S2, LT40 S2 and LT60 S2. The model designation S2 refers these models being the second generation of the LT models. 1 ETERNUS Entry Tape Libraries are highly reliable, cost effective and scalable. They fit perfectly to small and medium sized companies as an automated local or remote backup solution where unattended backup is desired. The ETERNUS LT20 S2 is one rack unit high and supports one LTO tape drive and two removable magazines, each with four cartridges. The ETERNUS LT40 S2 is two rack units high and supports up to two LTO tape drives and two removable magazines with 12 cartridges each. And the ETERNUS LT60 S2 is four rack units high and supports up to four LTO tape drives and four removable magazines with 12 cartridges each. LT40 S2 and LT60 S2 Tape Libraries support partitioning allowing them to be used concurrently with different servers and operating systems. 2 The ETERNUS LT standard delivery contains all material for rack mounting and powering. In addition to the basic documentation one Ethernet cable and one cleaning cartridge is included. We recommend storing the original packaging for possible future transportation. 3 All units are shipped with a shipping lock, which locks the robot during the transportation. This lock needs to be removed before the unit can be used. This slide describes how to remove the lock from the LT20. First, remove the yellow label from the shipping lock. Then remove the shipping lock to release the robot. Cover the opening with the yellow label And store the shipping lock in its place next to the power supply for future transportation. 4 With the LT40 and LT60, follow the same steps. Remove the yellow label, remove the shipping lock to unlock the robot. Replace the label and store the shipping lock in its place above from the Library controller. 5 In this overview you can see the important technical features of the ETERNUS LT20 S2 Tape Library. Only 1 drive type with one type of interface can be used. 6 Here is an overview of the technical features of the ETERNUS LT40 S2 and LT60 S2 Tape Libraries. These Libraries allow mixing different LTO drives and interfaces. 7

The LT 40 S2 and LT60 S2 Libraries allow using them with two or more servers and / or applications by partitioning the library. It is also possible to use mixed drive technologies. To use this feature the partitioning license needs to be activated for all slots and a minimum of two drives need to be configured. 8 For service activities and warranty claims it is important always to record the serial number that can be found on a pullout tab in the rear of the unit. 9 Let us get familiar with the models by having a look at how they look like from the front, starting with the LT20 S2 Library. Left magazine with four tape slots inclusive one mail slot. The Power switch for switching on and off the Library. The green ready LED is illuminated when power is on and blinking when the Library is active. The amber clean LED is lit when a drive needs cleaning. The amber attention LED comes on if the Library requires attention by the operator. And the amber Error LED is on if an unrecoverable tape drive or library error occurs. At the same time an error message is displayed on the display. The keys to move around in the built-in administration menu are the up-key to move up in the menu, the cancel-key to cancel a selection, the Enter-key to confirm a choice and the down-key to move down in the menu. Right Magazine with four tape slots and cooling air intakes on both sides of the display. 10 The ETERNUS LT40 S2 and LT60 S2 front is similar to the LT20 S2. This is the LT60 S2 front view with all four magazines. The LT40 S2 has only the lower magazines. Left upper magazine with 12 tape slots, both right magazines with each 12 tape slots and the left lower magazine with 12 tape slots including three mail slots. All other components are the same as on the LT Let us now continue with the rear sides and start with the LT20 S2. Here is the power connector. The input power range is from 110 volt to 240 volt, autosensing. A slot for storing the shipping key. These are the fans of the Library. The changeable LTO drive is located in the middle. Different types of LTO drives with Serial Attached SCSI or Fibre Channel interface can be used. This is the SAS interface of the Library. Here is the pull out tab with the serial number and above from it the power LED of the LTO drive. An Ethernet connector for remote access to the Remote Management Unit is located on the controller unit. The serial interface is for factory usage only. The controller LED shows activity of the Library controller

The USB connector can be used for firmware updates and storing the Library configuration. 12 Here are the main differences in the rear of the LT40 S2. Bays for two half-height LTO drives that can be of mixed types, or for one full-height LTO drive. The shipping key is located above from the controller unit. The power supply has three LEDs, next slide shows them in detail. All other components are identical with the ETERNUS LT20 S2 Library. 13 Now let us take a look at how the ETERNUS LT60 differs from the LT20 and 40. Power supplies and LTO drives all have built-in fans. One or two hot pluggable power supplies with one power input each and LED indicators. The blue LED indicates that mains power is present, the green LED indicates that all output voltages of the PSU are OK and the yellow LED illuminates if a PSU fan is defective. All other components are comparable with the ETERNUS LT40 S2 Library. 14 Next we will have a look at the Fibre Channel interfaces. The LTO-3 and LTO-4 tape drives have four Gigabit per second Fibre Channel interfaces. The LTO-5 and LTO-6 tape drives come with an eight Gigabit per second Fibre Channel interface. Each drive of the Library can be connected either directly to a Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter of the server or to a Fibre Channel switch. When using a Fibre Channel switch both drives of the Library can be addressed with one HBA. 15 For the SAS interface there are different cables with different connectors. The three Gigabit per second SAS HBA LSI 3442e uses an SFF8470 connector and the six Gigabit per second SAS HBA LSI e uses an SFF8088 connector. The ETERNUS LT S2 Libraries are always equipped with SFF8088 connectors. 16 Different types of SAS cables with different lengths are available. It is important always to include the necessary cables in the order as by default the Library is delivered without any cables. Cables in the leftmost column are orderable as options for the Library itself, cables in the midmost column can be configured as part of the rack - if the Library is ordered together with a rack. 17 Next we will take a look at the inside of the ETERNUS LT Libraries. Left Magazines, right Magazines and in the middle the robot with a barcode reader. In the rear of the chassis are the LTO tape drives. The assembly is identical for all ETERNUS LT Libraries. 18

Here is an inside view of the ETERNUS LT60 S2. In the front; left Magazines, the lower one having the mail slots. In the middle is the robot with bar code reader. In the rear of the unit are the Library controller and the power supply units. The tape drives are in the middle in the rear side of the unit. It is possible to mix different types of full- and half height LTO drives in one Library. Chassis refers to the base of the unit that holds all the other components listed here and finally the right hand side Magazines, each with 12 LTO tape slots. 19 A Magazine of the ETERNUS LT20 S2 has four LTO tape slots. Numbering of the tape slots starts from the front of the unit for both the left and right Magazine. The first slot of the left Magazine is the mail slot that can be used to change tapes without interrupting a running backup. 20 The ETERNUS LT40 and LT60 Magazines comprise of 12 LTO tape slots each. Numbering of the slots starts from the foremost slot of the lowest row and continues with the next row from the front, for both the left and right Magazines. The three first slots of the left Magazine are mail slots. 21 To remove a cartridge from a mail slot, unlock the left lower Magazine with the Operator Control Panel - in short OCP - or using the Remote Management Unit - short RMU - and consequently remove the cartridge from the magazine as shown here. 22 LTO cartridges are backward compatible in two steps. One step back allows both read and write functionality and two steps back allows only read access. Always place the Barcode labels right in the middle in the front of the tape cartridge. Incorrectly placed label may cause the robot mechanism to jam or simply the barcode to be unreadable. To use the autoclean function, stick the barcode label with CLN on the LTO universal cleaning tape. 23 The Operator Control Panel is used for controlling and configuring Library functions. The power button is on the left hand side of the Library. When the Library is switched on, pressing the power button starts a power down sequence. To abort the power down sequence keep the power button pushed for five seconds or press the cancel button within the first 3 seconds. If you need to force a power down, push the power button for 10 seconds. The information LEDs are explained on the next page. The access keys for the OCP are used to move around in the menu structure. 24 Here are the information LEDs described. The green READY LED illuminates when the Library is on. It is blinking when the Library is busy.

The amber CLEAN LED illuminates if a tape drive needs cleaning. You have to move a cleaning tape in the shown tape drive. Only use LTO universal cleaning cartridges. The amber ATTENTION LED illuminates if the Library has detected a condition that requires attention by the operator. In this case refer to the display for more information. The amber ERROR LED illuminates if there is a defective tape, an electrical or a mechanical problem. Use the OCP or RMU for more details. 25 The ETERNUS OCP Menu is identical on all LT Libraries; depending on the configuration, there may be more or less options to choose from. The OCP Menu has four main submenus. The information submenu displays the status of the components of the LT. The Commands submenu is used to control the Library functions. Using the Configuration submenu it is possible to perform all configuration tasks; including typing in a License key for upgrading the slot configuration of the Library. Also, it is possible to save and restore the Library configuration and if needed restore the default configuration. The Service submenu is for example for running tests, dumps and making a firmware upgrade from a USB memory. Here you can also initiate a drive cleaning. 26 The other way to control an ETERNUS LT Library is the Remote Management Unit access through the Ethernet Port of the Library with an Internet browser. To access the RMU type in the IP address of the ETERNUS LT in the web browser and log in using either the Admin or Service password as shown here. Before logging in a customer's machine, always check first with the customer or customer's admin for allowance. RMU offers similar functionality as the OCP menu; when operating with a customer's Library, always first save the configuration to be able to recover from accidentally changed configuration. RMU offers an easy way for carrying out firmware updates and taking logs and dumps from the Library. For detailed instructions, please refer to the Installing, Starting Up and Maintaining handbook. 27 If the ETERNUS LT S2 Library is new or after the defaults have been restored, the settings shown here are active. If the defaults are restored using the RMU, please note that to continue using the RMU the default IP address must be used. 28 In a tape Library there are different sources of errors: On a servo error the robot may jam. The most common cause of Write/Read error or connectivity problems is the tape drive. Run drive tests and other tests to locate the error. Replace a defective drive. On an unload Error you may have to manually remove a stuck tape cartridge from the tape drive. A Cleaning Tape works about 50 times. Change the expired cleaning tape cartridge.

29 For problem reporting and servicing - like returning defective parts - always use the Field Return Form that is included in the spare part delivery. Alternatively it can be downloaded from the Partner Portal. Please note that the FRF contains an useful list of things to remember when servicing a tape library. 30 Next we will have a look at the FRUs, short for Field Replaceable Units. The ETERNUS LT20 S2 has only two Field Replaceable Units. When carrying out a whole unit replacement, the working tape drive must be removed from the defective unit to the replacement unit. The second FRU is the tape drive. Only half height drives can be fitted in the ETERNUS LT20 S2 Library. 31 The ETERNUS LT40 S2 and LT60 S2 Libraries each have four FRUs. Similarly as with the LT20, the whole unit without a tape drive. The second FRU is the tape drive. These Library models support half and full height tape drives and different tape drive types. The third FRU is the Library controller and the fourth FRU is the Hot Plug power supply. 32 For tape drive replacement always refer to the Handbook. After you unload the cartridge from the drive and power the drive down, you can remove the tape drive from the chassis. Please note that powering down the complete Library is not necessary. When the power LED of the tape drive is off, loosen the whirl screws on the drive. If it is the lower tape drive as shown, first pull back the product ID tag; otherwise the slide or the attached label can be damaged. Carefully push down the Product ID tag and then take out the drive carrier. Installing a new or additional drive follows the reverse procedure. Before inserting the drive check the connectors for irregularities that could damage the receptacles in the chassis. 33 If you use a redundant power supply, only unplug the defective power supply, loosen the whirl screws and slide out the power supply. If there is only one power supply you have to shut down the whole Library before replacing the power supply. 34 For controller replacement the whole Library needs to be powered down and the power cords need to be removed. All Library configuration data is stored in two places: in the Library controller and in the robotic controller. The replacement controller has a serial number starting with FRU followed by further digits. It is not recommended to use a controller from another LT Library as a replacement part. That causes the Library to show "data mismatch" message on the display at

power on - reason being the two conflicting configurations; one in the robotic controller and one in the replacement controller. Use only official Fujitsu spare parts for replacement. 35 Here instructions for manually removing a stuck tape cartridge. Using fingers, turn the gears in the shown order to manually open the gripper and remove the tape from it. 36 Here are some known issues. The ETERNUS LT Library is designed to be used installed in a rack only. The reason is the mechanical design of the Library; when installed in a rack the Library is fastened from the sides. When lying on a table you may experience robot movement errors caused by the weight of the machine lying on the center part where the robotic mechanism is located. Do not use old versions of the Internet browsers. 37 Additional information and downloads for the ETERNUS LT S2 Libraries can be found from these URLs. It is recommended always to use the latest firmware releases and driver versions but never update the firmware or install newer drivers without first consulting with the customer. 38 Here is an overview of the newest test tools for the LTO drives and the Library itself. The standard test tools run on Windows, Linux and Solaris operating systems. Always when possible, use these tools before ordering or replacing any components. 39 It is recommended to check all log files for abnormalities before logging a problem report. The RMU provides an easy access to the log information. 40 For a whole unit swap, here is a useful overview of the necessary steps. Backup all configurations to be able later import them to the new Library. Move the active components, drives and magazines from the Library to be replaced in to the new Library. Lock the robot of the Library to be sent back with the shipping lock and remove it from the new Library. Power on the new Library and run the internal tests. If everything is OK, install LAN and SAS or Fibre Channel cables and reboot the system. When upgrading an existing library with an LTO-6 tape drive, firmware version 4.80 or higher is required. Using an earlier version may result in sporadic errors or the LTO-6 drive not being properly recognized. Always refer to the respective manual for up-to-date information and further details. 41

All ETERNUS LT S2 models are using a new ID string for system recognition. All older TX and LT Libraries that have been updated to firmware version 4.59 or higher will by default have the new ID String. If the backup software does not recognize the new string, it is possible to set it back manually using the RUM. Main menu Configuration, menu option System has a dropdown menu that can be used to select either the old or the new string. 42 That concludes this web based training module, thank you for your attention.
