From the top menu, select Products > Register Products. Enter the product serial number, and click Submit. Enter the requested details, and click Submit. fter your registration is approved, you can download SNtricity software. The approval process might take up to hours.
4 Install the the rails shelves Install the drives CUTION: n empty shelf weighs approximately lb (60 kg). Four people are required to safely move an empty shelf. If drives are installed, a mechanized lift is required. TTENTION: To avoid damaging the hardware, never move a 60-drive shelf if drives are installed. You must remove all drives before moving the shelf. To access the shelf, remove the outer packing box. Then, fold down the flaps on the inner box. If you are lifting and moving the shelf by hand, attach the four handles. Push up on each handle until it clicks into place. Put on the ESD wristband to protect the drives from static electricity. Release the levers on the top drive drawer. Then, slide the drawer out by using the levers. Raise the handle on the drive to vertical. Place the back of the shelf (the end with the connectors) on the rails. Supporting the shelf from the bottom, slide it into the cabinet. If you are using the handles, use the thumb latches to detach the handles as you slide the shelf in. 5 Secure the shelf to the front of the cabinet by inserting two screws in the st and rd holes (counting down from the top) on each side. 6 Secure the shelf to the rear of the cabinet with the provided back brackets. 5 Starting with the leftmost slot at the front, align the two raised buttons on the drive with the notches on the drawer. Then, pressing gently on the top of the drive, rotate the drive handle down until the drive snaps into place. Install the remaining drives. If you are installing fewer than 60 drives, if you have solid state drives (SSDs), or if your drives have different capacities: st rd Install drives in the front four slots of each drawer (a minimum of 0 drives in each shelf) to maintain adequate airflow for cooling. Distribute any remaining drives across the drawers. If possible, install an equal number of each type of drive in each drawer to allow for the creation of Drawer Loss Protected volume groups or disk pools. Distribute any SSDs evenly across the drawers. NOTE: For square hole cabinets, you must first install the provided cage nuts in order to secure the front and rear of the shelf with screws. 6 7 Slide the drawer back in by slidingng it from the center and closing both levers gently. ttach the bezel to the front of the shelf.
5 Connect the drive shelves (if installed) If you have drive shelves, install them now. Skip this section if you did not install optional, expansion drive shelves. See the Hardware Cabling Guide if you are using another configuration than what is shown, if you are connecting an E800 controller shelf to SS.0 (6 Gbit/second) drive shelves, or if you are connecting DE60C drive shelves to an E5660 or an E760 storage array. Refer to the figures to connect SS cables between controllers and in the controller shelf and the two I/O modules (IOMs) in each drive shelf. Confirm that the blue tabs on the SS cables face the bottom of the cabinet, and make sure each connector clicks into place. Connect power cords and apply power CUTION: Risk of electrical shock efore connecting the power cords, make sure that the two power switches on each shelf are off. Confirm that the two power switches on each shelf are off. Connect the two power cords for each shelf to different power distribution units (PDUs) in the cabinet or rack. Power Switches Two drive shelves Controller IOM Three drive shelves Controller If you have drive shelves, turn on their two power switches first. Then, wait minutes before applying power to the controller shelf. IOM IOM 5 Turn on the two power switches on the controller shelf. Do not turn off the power switches during the power-on process. The fans in each shelf are very loud when they first start up. The loud noise during start-up is normal. Check the LEDs and the seven-segment display on the back of each controller. The seven-segment display shows the repeating sequence OS, Sd, blank to indicate that the controller is performing start-of-day processing. fter the controller has booted up, the display shows the shelf ID. See the E5700 and E800 System Monitoring Guide to learn about the LED states and the display codes. 6 Confirm you completed the installation steps correctly. If there is a problem with the installation, contact Netpp technical support.
6 Connect the data hosts Connect and configure the management connection efore making any cable connections, confirm that host bus adapters (Hs) are installed in the data hosts. If you are using IX, wait to connect the data hosts until after you have installed and configured the Netpp multipath driver. See the SNtricity System Manager Express Guide. See the Hardware Cabling Guide for lists of supported cables and transceivers, the best practices for cabling, and detailed information about the host ports for your controller. See the Netpp Interoperability Matrix ( for the supported host topologies. Insert the appropriate transceiver into each controller port that you plan to use, based on the host protocol and the host topology. Start with the lowest numbered controller port. You do not need transceivers for copper iscsi, SS, or Infiniand. Connect to the data hosts as follows: To use direct attach topology, connect each H directly to the host ports on the controllers, as in this example: H H H H Data hosts with redundant H ports Storage array with two host ports/controller efore connecting the storage array s management cables, you must first decide whether you will configure the storage array s management ports manually or using the SNtricity Quick Connect Utility.
