Introduction This manual describes the Fujitsu PCNA EP OCe x 40Gb PCI-Express adapter for Enhanced Ethernet Fabric of multi-protocol PCI-Express adapters for 10 and 40 Gigabit/sec (Gb/s) Enhanced Ethernet (EE) fabric. This adapter provides ethernet networking and iscsi functionality, as well as Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) functionality for convergence of Fibre Channel (FC) traffic onto 40 Gb/s EE fabric. The PCNA EP OCe14401 is available as a full-featured universal converged network adapter (UCNA) that supports NIC, iscsi, and FCoE. This adapter supports NIC single root I/O virtualization (SR-IOV) and are fully compliant to the PCI Express CEM Specification Rev. 3.0/2.0/1.1. UCNAs combine two major functional components: a 10 Gigabit networking MAC and an FC IOC to interface with a unified lossless Ethernet switch. Adapters serve as a common interface for both storage and IP traffic retaining familiar FC and networking software stacks, OS drivers, and management. The supported PCIe connector is an x8. Illustrations in this manual are only examples. The actual hardware may vary. Introduction Prerequisites Prerequisites - Programmable World Wide Name (WWN) - Support for FIP and FCoE Ether Types - Concurrent logins (RPI): up to 8K per ASIC (FCoE CNA only mode) - Open exchanges (XRI): up to 4K per ASIC (FCoE CNA only mode) - FCoE initiator and target modes - Supports up to 255 NPIV interfaces PCI Express 3.0/2.0/1.1 compliant systems: x8 lane at up to 8 Gb/s per lane. Adapter Identification Each adapter ships with several numbers clearly marked on the board. Fujitsu recommends recording these numbers before installation. IEEE address a unique 64-bit identifier used for system configuration World Wide Name (WWN) derived from the IEEE address; the FC industry uses the WWN for FC connectivity. Serial number assigned by Emulex and used when communicating with Emulex Note: The adapter has two IEEE addresses and two WWNs, one for each port. PCNA EP OCe x 40Gb Page 6

Hardware Installation The PCNA EP OCe14401 adapter can be connected to fiber optic cables (used with embedded optical transceivers) or DAC cables. Additional information for these cable connections and other installation procedures are described in the following sections. Preparing the Adapter for Installation Before installing the adapter, you should perform the following steps: 1. Turn off the computer and unplug it. 2. Remove the computer case. Note: The adapter comes with a low-profile PCIe bracket installed. A low profile bracket is included in the box with the adapter. 3. For the PCNA EP OCe14401 adapter, if you want to change the bracket to a full height version, follow steps 4 12; otherwise, proceed to Installing the Adapter on page Remove the mounting bracket screws from the top of the adapter (see circles in figure 2-1). Figure 2-1 Removing the Bracket 5. Remove the bracket and store it for future use. 6. Align the new mounting bracket tabs with the holes in the adapter. Note: Be careful not to push the bracket past the transceiver or RJ-45 housing's grounding tabs. Ensure the light emitting diodes (LEDs) are properly aligned with the holes in the bracket. 7. Re-install the screws that attach the adapter to the bracket. PCNA EP OCe x 40Gb Page 7

8 2. Hardware Installation Installing the Adapter Installing the Adapter To install the adapter: 1. Turn off and unplug the computer. 2. Remove the computer case. 3. Remove the blank panel from an empty PCIe bus slot. See Preparing the Adapter for Installation on page 7 to change the brackets if needed. Otherwise, proceed to Attaching Devices on page 8. Note: Place the adapter into an empty PCIe x8 or x16 slot. Make sure that the adapter is in an appropriate PCIe slot that does not interfere with other components or case to prevent damage to the adapter. 4. Insert the adapter into the empty x8 or x16 PCIe bus slot. Press firmly until the adapter is seated. 5. Secure the adapter's mounting bracket to the case with a panel screw or clip. 6. Replace the computer case and tighten the case screws. The adapter is now installed in the server and is ready for device attachment. Attaching Devices There are two types of cables that can be connected to the adapter: Fibre optic cable DAC cable An adapter does not allow normal data transmission on either optical or copper links, unless it is connected to a compatible optical or copper interface connection. The cable and connector specifications are listed in section Supported cables on page 8. Note: Optic 40GBASE-SR4 short wave lasers with MPO type connectors support up to 100m for OM3 and 150m for OM4 respectively on MMF cables. Connect the appropriate cable to the adapter. When connecting an optical cable, ensure the cages have optical transceivers installed in them (see Figure 2-2). PCNA EP OCe x 40Gb Page 8

Hardware Installation Attaching Devices Figure 2-2 Installing an Optical Transceiver Once the optical transceivers are installed, insert the optical cable into the LC connectors on the adapter (see Figure 2-3). Figure 2-3 Connecting a Fiber Optic Cable When connecting a DAC cable, ensure the QSFP+ cages do not have optical transceivers installed in them. After confirming there are no optical transceivers installed, insert the DAC transceiver into the QSFP+ cage on the adapter (see Figure 2-4). PCNA EP OCe x 40Gb Page 9

After the appropriate cable is connected to the adapter, connect the other end of the cable to a suitable device, such as a Top of Rack (TOR) EE switch. After the device is connected to the adapter, you are ready to apply power to the computer. See Applying Power on page 10. Verify that the adapter is securely installed in the computer. 2. Verify that the correct device is attached. 3. Plug in and turn on the computer. 4. Amber LED (Link) On (constantly) = Link up Off = Link down Green LED (Ethernet Activity) Blink = Activity on the Ethernet link Off = No activity on the Ethernet link Figure 2-5 Optical and DAC Adapter LED Indicators Note: If you connect the controller to 4 10Gb switch ports via a breakout cable, the LEDs indicate only the status of the first cable. 12 3. Software Installation 3. Software Installation Initial operating system installation For installing the operating system please use "ServerView Installation Manager (SVIM)". In connection with installing the operating system, all necessary software components to administrate the controller will be installed automatically. For more information about SVIM, see Maintenance For maintaining and updating your controller, please use ServerView Management Software e.g. ServerView Operation Manager, ServerView Update Manager or ServerView Update Manager Express For further details, see Drivers and Utilities to administrate and update your controller can be found at or use the ServerView Update DVD. For information please read in manual FUJITSU Software ServerView Suite Local System Update for PRIMERGY Servers which also can be found at Emulex Management Utility OneCommand Manager (OCM) For Windows operating systems the Emulex Management Utility OneCommand Manager (OCM) will be installed by SVIM automatically. Under Linux operating systems a manual installation is necessary. Link to: Enabling or Disabling the Secure Firmware Feature The PCNA EP OCe x 40Gb adapter has a jumper (J3) that enables or disables the Secure Firmware feature as required. To ensure that the firmware on this adapter cannot be changed offline (using an ISO flash file), leave the jumper block installed on the relevant jumper pins (Secure Firmware enabled). To allow offline firmware updates on this adapter, remove the jumper block from the pins (Secure Firmware disabled); the jumper must be replaced after the offline update is completed. To update the firmware using a tool such as the OneCommand Manager application, boot utilities, or Elxflash utilities, there is no need to remove the jumper the Secure Firmware feature can remain enabled.
