4 SECTION 1 INTRODUCTION OVERVIEW On May 1, 2003, VXI Technology, Inc. acquired Agilent Technology s mechanical data acquisition product segment. VXI Technology designs and manufactures high-density modular instruments and signal switching systems for electronics manufacturers and suppliers. The product segment the company has acquired from Agilent includes the manufacture and sale of high-density modular measurement and analysis instruments for use in vibration, shock and acoustical analysis applications. This acquisition enables VXI Technology to bring the experience and pedigree of two worldrenowned modular instrument families together and move forward in the development of nextgeneration high-density modular instruments. These new products complement VXI Technology s present instrument offering and allows the company to leverage existing technology into the mechanical data acquisition marketplace Starting May 1, 2003, VXI Technology will manufacture, market and support Agilent s existing data acquisition product line. This guide is provided to make correlations between former Agilent part numbers with their new VXI Technology counterpart. 7 DYNAMIC DAC PRODUCTS VT1432A: 16 Channel 51.2 ksamples/s Digitizer Plus DPS (Formerly Agilent E1432A) The VT1432A 16 channel digitizer is a C-size, one-slot, register-based VXI module that includes DSP, transducer signal conditioning, alias protection, digitization and high-speed measurement computation. Optional arbitrary source or dual-input tachometer can be added as well. Onboard computation of measurement results, fast data transfer to the host computer and a dedicated highspeed data bus for module-to-module communication all combine to provide an outstanding measurement architecture for demanding mechanical, acoustic and electrical test applications. Putting so much capability in a single module decreases system cost while increasing system performance. VT1433B: 8 Channel 196 ksamples/s Digitizer Plus DPS (Formerly Agilent E1433B) The VT1433B 8 channel Digitizer is a C-size, one-slot, register-based VXI module that includes DSP, transducer signal conditioning, alias protection, digitization and high-speed measurement computation. VT1434A: 4 Channel 65 ksamples/s Arbitrary Source (Formerly Agilent E1434A) The VT1434A four-channel arbitrary source is a C-size, one-slot, VXI module that provides stimulus for mechanical, acoustical and electrical testing. Its versatile waveform types, performance and tight integration with the VT1432A and VT1433B digitizers make it the ideal source for multi-channel measurements. Built-in sine and random noise waveforms save development time and offload computation and data movement chores from the host computer. A single-channel version of the VT1434A is available as an internal option (-1D4) to the VT1432A and VT1433B digitizers. VT3240A: Voltage Input Breakout Box (Formerly Agilent E3240A) The VT3240A 8-channel BNC, voltage input breakout box, is specifically designed to interface voltage signals on shielded BNC cables to the Agilent high performance VT1432A and VT1433B VXI digitizer modules. Breakout boxes are required to connect signals to the VT1432A/33B inputs. One VT3240A is needed for each eight channels of voltage input. Each VT3240A integrates eight channels of voltage input in one box, reducing the complexity of cabling needed for both small and large channel-count VXI systems. The unit has eight BNC connectors, spaced to allow easy hand access to each input. Each BNC input can be manually switched to Grounded or true Differential shielding. 8 VT3241A: ICP/Voltage Input Breakout Box (Formerly Agilent E3241A) The VT3241A 8-channel BNC-IEPE, voltage input breakout box is specifically designed to interface integrated electronic piezo-electric (IEPE - 4 ma constant current) accelerometers and voltage signals to the Agilent high performance VT1432A and VT1433B VXI digitizer modules. Breakout boxes are required to connect signals to the VT1432A/33B inputs. One VT3241A is needed for each eight channels of IEPE-voltage input. Each VT3241A integrates eight channels of IEPE signal conditioning in one box, reducing the count of transducer signal conditioning needed for both small and large channel-count VXI systems. The unit has eight BNC connectors, spaced to allow easy hand access to each input. Each BNC input can be manually switched to Grounded or true Differential shielding. Standard cable length is 2 meters (from VT1432A/33B to breakout box). VT3242A: 4 Channel Charge/Voltage ICP Breakout Box (Formerly Agilent E3242A) The VT3242A, 4-Channel Charge/Voltage Breakout Box, is specifically designed to interface accelerometers (charge mode and 4 ma constant current power supply) to the VXI Technology high performance VT1432A and VT1433B VXI Digitizer modules. It integrates four channels of signal conditioning in one box, reducing the count of transducer conditioning equipment needed for both small and large channel-count VXI systems. This unit has two input connector types per channel to match the intended transducer connection, as well as buffered outputs via BNC connectors for signal monitoring or recording. VT3243A: 4 Channel Microphone/Voltage ICP Breakout Box (Formerly Agilent E3243A) The VT3243A, 4-Channel Microphone/Voltage Breakout Box, is specifically designed to interface microphones (as well as voltage and 4 ma constant current power supply accelerometers) to the VXI Technology high performance VT1432A and VT1433B VXI Digitizer modules. It integrates four channels of signal conditioning in one box, reducing the count of transducer conditioning equipment needed for both small and large channel-count VXI systems. Applications include both acoustic and mechanical measurements. It has two input connector types per channel to match the intended transducer connection, as well as buffered outputs via BNC connectors for signal monitoring or recording. VT2216A: VXI/SCSI Interface Module (Formerly Agilent N2216A) The VT2216A VXI/SCSI Interface is a C-size, 2-slot, message-based VXI module used for online recording of digital data. It is ideal for a variety of static and transient data capture applications as a replacement for an analog data recorder. Random access to any data segment is rapidly available without time-consuming rewinding. The VT2216A is used in transient signal analysis, acoustic and mechanical measurements and electronic surveillance. Using the VXI local bus, data can be transferred from VXI A/D modules at a sustained rate of greater than 30 MB/s to the optional dual internal hard drives. The standard VT2216A has dual low voltage differential SCSI interfaces that can be connected directly to external hard drives or DAT tape drives. There are options to add one or two 73 GB internal hard drives for local data storage capacity. The VT2216A can be used as a replacement or upgrade for the E1562D/E (excluding internal DAT drive and high voltage SCSI interface to external devices). 9 STATIC DAC PRODUCTS VT1413C: 64-Channels Muxed to 16 Bit, 100 ksamples/s A/D (Formerly Agilent E1413C) The VT1413C 64-Channel Scanning A/D is a C-size, 1-slot, register-based VXI module. It is designed for high-performance data acquisition and computer-aided test applications. The key requirements of these applications are: High-speed scanning 16-bit resolution High accuracy (0.01% of reading) 4 mv to 16 V full-scale input (60 V with VT1513A attenuator SCP) 64 ksamples dual-ported FIFO buffer for fast data transfers Current value buffer for on-line monitoring and automatic self-calibration of complete path for every channel Fast auto zero Extensive built-in self-test diagnostics in VXI Technology supplied driver The unique design of the analog subsystem provides a new level of density by combining a 16-bit A/D with a 64-channel differential FET multiplexer. Up to eight Signal Conditioning Plug-Ons (SCPs) most with eight channels each can be added to the VT1413C to provide additional capabilities (i.e., direct input, programmable or fixed gain and filter cutoff per channel). VT1415A: Algorithmic Closed Loop Controller (Formerly Agilent E1415A) The VT1415A is a C-size, 1-slot, VXI closed loop control module. It bridges the gap between standard PID controllers and custom control systems all on a single module! More powerful than PID controllers and easier to implement than custom systems, the VT1415A is the perfect solution to tough monitoring and control applications. These applications consist of: Linear control of multiple loops of temperature, position, velocity, acceleration, rpm and other parameters Complex control requiring nested or interconnected loops or loops with multiple inputs or multiple outputs of mixed type Independent loops with multi-level alarms The VT1415A can also be used in various other modes for applications requiring general-purpose multifunction input and output capability. The algorithms are flexible enough and the timing is deterministic enough to be used for hardware-in-the-loop simulation of many types of new product designs. Additionally, it can be used solely for data acquisition with the ability to capture multiple channels of analog, digital or frequency-based signals all with a single VXI module. VT1419A: Multi-Function Measurement and Control (Formerly Agilent E1419A) The VT1419A Multifunction Plus Measurement and Control module is a C-size, 1-slot, registerbased VXI module. It is ideal for mixed sensor and mixed signal data acquisition and control for design verification of electromechanical components and assemblies. The flexibility in configuring with multiple SCPs allows for multiple test setups of mixed signals, both input and output, without adding extra VXI measurement modules. The integrated signal conditioning provides for more accurate and repeatable calibration and eliminates the need for separate signal conditioning carriers. The intelligent measurement and control allows for scaleable configurations, on-board Engineering Unit (EU) conversion and real-time decision making. 8 Agilent to VXI Technology Cross-Reference Guide

10 VT1422A: Remote Channel Multi-Function DAC Module (Formerly Agilent E1422A) The VT1529B and its companion products, the VT1422A and VT1539A, provide a breakthrough in lower cost for automated strain measurements in structural and fatigue testing applications while providing high-density measurement capabilities per single C size VXI slot. Thirty-two channels of conditioning for both static-load and vibration measurements are included in each unit. The VT1529B can be located up to 1000 feet away from the measurement system for static measurements and 300 feet for dynamic measurements. The VT1422A controls the VT1529B multiplexer and includes a 16-bit, 25 ksamples/s scanning digitizer for signal acquisition. The connections and I/O control of VT1529B s is provided by VT1539A remote channel SCP s installed on the VT1422A. VT1501A: Direct Input 8-Channel SCP (Formerly Agilent E1501A) The VT1501A Direct Input Signal Conditioning Plug-on, the most basic of VXI Technology s SCPs, provides eight hardwired paths that buffer the input signal. Each path has input overvoltage protection and open transducer detection. Measurement applications include voltage, temperature, resistance and strain measurements as well as general measurements of voltage output sensors. VT1502A: Low Pass Filter Signal Conditioning Plug-On (Formerly Agilent E1502A) The VT1502A 8-Channel Low-Pass Filter SCP provides eight fixed, 2-pole, low-pass filters with a 3 db cutoff frequency of 7 Hz. It also provides input over-voltage protection and open transducer detection on each channel. Measurement applications include voltage, temperature, resistance and strain measurements as well as general measurements of voltage output sensors. VT1503A: Gain/Filter SCP (Formerly Agilent E1503A) The VT1503A 8-Channel Programmable Filter and Gain SCP provides eight programmable, 2-pole low-pass filters with cutoff frequency settings of 2, 10 and 100 Hz, as well as a 1.5 khz pass-through; mode (filter OFF). The VT1503A SCP also provides input over-voltage protection and open transducer detection on each channel and multiple gain settings. Measurement applications include low-level voltage, temperature, resistance and strain measurements and general measurements of voltage output sensors. VT1505A: Current Source SCP (Formerly Agilent E1505A) The VT1505A 8-Channel Current Source SCP provides eight current sources programmable to one of two current levels. The VT1505A SCP is used to supply excitation current to resistance and resistance-temperature measurements. It also provides over-voltage protection on each channel. 11 VT1506A: 120 Ω Strain Gauge SCP (Formerly Agilent E1506A) The VT1506A 8-Channel 120 Ω Strain Completion and Excitation SCP provides strain completion and excitation voltages for 120 Ω strain bridges. Connections can be made for quarter-bridge, half-bridge and full-bridge strain gage measurements. Two SCPs are required to make strain gage measurements. The VT1506A SCP provides the excitation signals and bridge connections and the other SCP, the sense SCP, makes the measurement connections (e.g., VT1503A, VT1508A or VT1509A). VT1507A: 350 Ω Strain Gauge SCP (Formerly Agilent E1507A) The VT1507A 8-Channel 350 Ω strain completion and excitation SCP provides strain completion and excitation voltages for 350 Ω bridges. Connections can be made for quarter-bridge, halfbridge and full-bridge strain gage measurements. Two SCPs are required to make strain gage measurements. The VT1507A SCP provides the excitation signals and bridge connections and the other SCP, the sense SCP, makes the measurement connections (e.g., VT1503A, VT1508A or VT1509A). VT1508A: 8-Channel Fixed x 16 Gain/Filer SCP (Formerly Agilent E1508A) The VT1508A 8-Channel x 16 Gain and 7 Hz Fixed Filter SCP provides eight fixed, 2-pole, lowpass filters with a 3 db cutoff frequency of 7 Hz and eight amplifiers with a gain of 16. It also provides input over-voltage protection and open transducer detection on each channel. VT1509A: 8-Channel Fixed x 64 Gain/Filter SCP (Formerly Agilent E1509A) The VT1509A 8-Channel x 64 Gain and 7 Hz Fixed Filter SCP provides eight fixed low-pass filters with a 3 db cutoff frequency of 7 Hz and eight amplifiers with a gain of 64. It also provides input over-voltage protection and open transducer detection on each channel. VT1510A: 4-Channel Sample and Hold SCP (Formerly Agilent E1510A) The VT1510A 4-Channel Sample and Hold SCP provides four channels of sample and hold inputs and four channels of direct inputs for the A/Ds. The sample and hold inputs sample all four channels simultaneously to reduce the skew introduced by scanning. The SCP circuitry provides a voltage gain of 0.5, 8, 64 or 512 for each channel. The low-pass filter on each sample and hold channel is a sixth order Bessel active RC filter used to provide alias protection and noise reduction. The filter cutoff frequencies are 1 khz, 500 Hz, 250 Hz, 100 Hz and 15 Hz. 10 Agilent to VXI Technology Cross-Reference Guide

12 VT1511A: 4-Channel Transient Strain SCP (Formerly Agilent E1511A) The VT1511A 4-Channel Transient Strain SCP provides four channels of strain measurements. It provides strain completion circuitry and excitation voltages, a programmable filter and sample and hold circuitry. The sample and hold inputs sample all four channels simultaneously to reduce the skew introduced by scanning. The low-pass filter on each sample and hold channel is a sixth order Bessel active RC filter used to provide alias protection and noise reduction. The filter cutoff frequencies are 1 khz, 500 Hz, 250 Hz, 100 Hz and 15 Hz. The SCP can be wired for measuring excitation voltages at the bridge connection (remote sense) or locally (terminal module). Excitation voltages of 0 V, 1 V, 2 V, 5 V or 10 V are available on each channel. The SCP provides a voltage gain of 0.5, 8, 64 or 512 for each channel. This SCP takes two adjacent slots in the VXI module. VT1512A: Low Pass Filter Signal Conditioning Plug-On (Formerly Agilent E1512A) The VT1512A 8-Channel 25 Hz Fixed Filter SCP provides eight fixed low-pass filters with a 3 db cutoff frequency of 25 Hz. It also provides input over-voltage protection and open transducer detection on each channel. VT1513A: Attenuator Input SCP (Formerly Agilent E1513A) The VT1513A 8-Channel Divide-by-16 Fixed Attenuator and 7 Hz Fixed Filter SCP provides eight fixed low-pass filters with a 3 db cutoff frequency of 7 Hz and eight divide-by-sixteen attenuators. It also provides input over-voltage protection. VT1518A: Resistance Measurement SCP (Formerly Agilent E1518A) The VT1518A 4-Wire Resistance Measurement SCP provides four programmable current source channels (with input over-voltage protection) for excitation. Each current source can be programmed to provide either 30 µa or 433 µa. The VT1518A also has four channels of analog input with x 16 gain and 10 Hz, 2-pole, low-pass filters for measuring the voltage across the resistor. The engineering conversion to ohms or temperature is done automatically at the full scanning rate in the base VXI module. VT1529B: 32 Ch. Remote Strain Conditioning and Voltage Unit (Formerly Agilent E1529B) The VT1529B Remote Strain Conditioning and Voltage Unit simplifies structural testing of designs that require many channels of strain measurement and voltage and temperature measurements. Strain gage cables connect to the unit with standard RJ-45 telecom plugs, making it exceptionally easy to reconfigure or replace strain gages. Each channel has bridge-completion and shunt-calibration resistors (with provision for special values). Automatic resetting of fuses ensures that a shorted gage does not disturb any other channel. Up to four external supplies can be used to generate the excitation voltages for banks of eight gages. The excitation voltages can be measured at any time during the scanning of channels. 13 The VT1529B provides gain, filtering and 32:1 multiplexing. It connects to a C-size VXI remotechannel DAC module (the VT1422A), which provides setup and configuration of up to sixteen VXI Technology VT1529B units. The VT1422A controls the VT1529B multiplexer and includes a 16-bit, 25 ksamples/s scanning digitizer for signal acquisition. The connections and I/O control of VT1529B's is provided by VXI Technology VT1539A remote channel SCP's installed on the VT1422A. The VT1586A Rack Mount Terminal Panel with an isothermal reference junction can be connected to the VT1529B to provide temperature measurements. VT1531A: 8 Channel Voltage Output Signal Conditioning Plug (Formerly Agilent E1531A) The VT1531A 8-Channel Voltage Output SCP provides eight channels of non-isolated voltage source outputs. Each channel can source ±16 V at up to 5 ma output current. The output voltage resolution is 16 bits (500 µv). Each output is current-limited to protect it from short circuits. VT1532A: 8 Channel Current Output Signal Conditioning Plug-On (Formerly Agilent E1532A) The VT1532A 8-Channel Current Output SCP provides eight channels of non-isolated current source outputs. Each output can source ± 10 ma with up to 15 V compliance. Each channel has over-voltage protection to protect the SCP and A/D from damaging voltage levels (>21 V) applied to its outputs. Two channels can be connected in parallel to use with 4-20 ma control loops. Power limitations will allow only seven (7) VT1532A SCPs to be installed in a VT1415A or VT1419A. VT1533A: 8 Channel Current Output Signal Conditioning Plug-On (Formerly Agilent E1533A) The VT1533A 16-Bit Digital I/O SCP provides 16 TTL compatible input/output lines. The 16 TTL bits are grouped as two, 8-bit "channels". Each channel can be configured as an 8-bit input port or an 8-bit output port. When configured for output, each channel can be either passive (resistor) pull-up or active (transistor) pull-up. Each output terminal is provided with over-voltage protection to prevent damage to the SCP or A/D module. Voltages greater than 6 V on any terminal will generate an error. VT1536A: Isolated 8-Bit Digital I/O Signal Conditioning (Formerly Agilent E1536A) The VT1536A 8-Bit Isolated Digital I/O SCP provides eight bits (channels) with individually programmable threshold levels of 5 V, 12 V, 24 V or 48 V. Channels are clamped at about 60 V by a crowbar protection circuit. Each channel can be configured as an input port or an output port. Both inputs/outputs have programmable polarity. The outputs are optically isolated solid state AC/DC Form A relay outputs with a 10 Ω resistance and 200 ma carrying current capability. 14 VT1538A: Enhanced Frequency/Totalize/PWM SCP (Formerly Agilent E1538A) The VT1538A Enhanced Frequency/Totalize/PWM SCP has eight channels. Each of the eight channels can be individually configured to perform input or output functions. Input functions include frequency measurement and totalize, pulse width measurement, rpm and quadrature count. Output functions can free run or can be triggered. Output functions include square waves, pulse trains, angular position pulse and stepper motor control. Any channel can be configured as a one-bit variable level digital input or output. Additionally, two channels may be configured for low-level sensors. VT1539A: Remote Channel Signal Conditioning Plug-On (Formerly Agilent E1539A) The VT1529B and its companion products, the VT1422A and VT1539A, provide a breakthrough in lower cost for automated strain measurements in structural and fatigue testing applications. Thirty-two channels of conditioning for both static-load and vibration measurements are included in each unit. The VT1529B can be located up to 1000 feet away from the measurement system for static measurements and 300 feet for dynamic measurements. The VT1422A controls the VT1529B multiplexer and includes a 16-bit, 25 ksamples/s scanning digitizer for signal acquisition.
