7 Multi-Platform Classroom Management Technical Specifications Hardware Screen Sharing Powerful KVM Switching Module KVM stands for Keyboard-Video-Mouse. This module is used for sharing video screens amongst stations, and for managing keyboard-mouse remote control of stations. A simple block diagram of the SmartClass+ DVI/HDMI switching option is shown at right. The KVM module physically intercepts the monitor, keyboard, and mouse connections between individual computer workstations and their peripherals, and connects them through a local interface module. Interfaces (typically supporting multiple workstations) are connected to central switching equipment using dedicated CAT-5 (or CAT-6) cabling. This offloads all shared video from the school s data network and assures sufficient bandwidth for sharing full resolution, full color palette video signals. KVM switching options include SmartClass+ VGA (for managing legacy analog VGA connections) and SmartClass+ DVI (for managing modern single-link digital DVI/HDMI connections). All systems feature a star wiring topology with centralized switching hubs.
