Section 1: Mounting For the re-assembly of a spliced track, see page 13. Mounting with the standard ceiling bracket PN WHTR ZP If the drapery weight exceeds 55 lbs. (25kg), install the track using the heavy-duty ceiling bracket. Example of the ceiling installation using the standard ceiling bracket Motor-mask hooks (no. 4 below) are designed to be pre-mounted to the track (as shown) prior to fixing the track to the ceiling. Motor-mask hooks allow drapery to be mounted around the motor housing, hiding it from view. (110mm) Standard ceiling bracket 2 in. (51mm) (no. 4) Drill a hole for the first bracket: at least 2 in. (51mm) off the back wall and parallel to the track to allow space for the bracket to swivel and latch, and it must be at least 4 5 /16 in. (110mm) from the sidewall to allow enough space to clear the beltdrive pulley. The brackets in general Place them approximately every 24 in. (610mm) on center from the end brackets. For heavier draperies, such as those with lining material or blackout fabric, place an extra bracket at 12 in. (305mm) from the end of the track on the stack side(s). On center-opening systems, place the last bracket near the gear set to support the drapery stack. Install the ceiling brackets as previously described. After the brackets have been installed, place the motor-mask hooks on the pulley. Hold the track to the ceiling while rotating the ceiling bracket. Be sure that the bracket edges are engaged to both sides of the track to assure that there is a secure installation. If the installation is successful, only the exposed tab of the ceiling bracket will be seen when it is flushed to the back of the track. 4

Mounting with the heavy-duty ceiling bracket PN WHTR ZP This heavy-duty ceiling bracket is suitable for a total drapery weight up to 220 lbs. (100kg). Place the brackets about every 24 in. (610mm). For heavier draperies, such as those with lining material or a blackout fabric, place an extra bracket on the stacking side. Fasten each ceiling bracket with two screws, placed 1 11 /16 in. (43mm) center-to-center. Heavy-duty ceiling bracket Mounting with the extension wall bracket PN WHTR 6057 EX WH The extension wall bracket consists of a base and pin with a profile nut. The nut is fastened to the rear of the track. Fasten the extension wall bracket with one screw. The shaft can be reduced from 5 7 /8 to 2¾ in. (150mm to 70mm). Note: The track must be mounted to the extension wall bracket using the recessed mounting plate (see below). The extension wall bracket can be combined with the wall-return set. Extension wall bracket Wall return set 15/16 in. (24mm) 1 in. (25.4mm) 1 9/16 in. (42mm) 2 1/16 in. (54mm) Mounting with the wall-support bracket PN WHTR 6051 WS WH Fasten the wall-support bracket on the wall with one screw in the upper side. Clip the track onto the wall-support bracket as shown in the drawing below. After assembly, the center of the track will be 1 9 /16 in. (40mm) from the rear wall, and the screw will be barely visible. Wall-support bracket 1 3/8 in. (149mm) Mounting with the recessed mounting plate PN WHTR The aluminum track can be recessed into the ceiling. If so, MechoShade Systems will pre-drill the track for this purpose every 24 in. (610mm) on center. For recessed mounting, special screws with small heads must be used; they are supplied with this profile. When recessing curved tracks, use the profile as manufactured to determine the arc. 1 1/4 in. (31.75mm) 1 9/16 in. (40mm) Recessed mounting plate min. 7/8 in. (22mm) min. 1 5/16 (32mm) 5

Section 2: Motor Installation and Connections Installing the motor The master carrier must be moved to a position where there will be 12 in. (305mm) of clear movement, in both directions, so that the system can accept its programming mode. This position will provide sufficient space for the system to jog into the programming mode. After the track has been securely mounted to the ceiling or wall, the motor unit can then be attached onto the drive-belt pulley. If a cover is attached to the pulley, pry off the cover with a screwdriver to expose the drive-belt pulley (Fig. 1). Gently extend tab Fig. 2 Drive-belt pulley Insert motor gear Pulley cover Fig. 1 Gently, fully extend the tab on the top of the motor unit (Fig. 2). Holding the tab fully extended, insert the motor gear into the drive-belt pulley so that the motor unit is cleanly seated and flushed to all sides of the housing (Fig. 3). Press the tab completely back into the motor housing, making sure that the tab is flushed with the motor unit and pulley (Fig. 4). This procedure completes the motor attachment to the track. If there is a second motor (for creating a tandem system) on the same track, repeat the instructions above for the second motor. Fig. 3 Press tab in to lock motor Fig. 4 6

Section 3: Programming the infrared (IR) channels and setting drapery positions The WhisperTrac system with the HD20 motor can be operated and adjusted with an infrared (IR) transmitter. The transmitter includes a small IR receiver. The IR channels must be selected and adjusted before the transmitter can operate the draperies. Each motor can react to several IR channels. Each system is capable of reacting to both its own channel and to another channel or to all systems. The following steps must be completed for each motor unit. IMPORTANT: When a system is already interconnected (a bus system), remove all the plugs from the motor unit. Plug an IR receiver into port 1 or port 2 on the bottom of the motor unit and then plug in the round connector of the 24V power supply (transformer). Step 1: Preparing the system to determine the drapery positions Place the infrared receiver in either one of the RJ45 sockets. Connect the standard 24VDC power supply to the center socket on the motor unit. Step 2: Activating/deleting one or more infrared channels Select group A, B, or C. Hold the P button down until the LED flashes green. Press either OPEN or CLOSE (direction not yet important) of a desired channel; the LED will remain green for two seconds before WHTR IR transmitter WHTR IR receiver flashing again. This channel is now activated. Repeat for additional channels. To delete a channel, hold down the corresponding OPEN or CLOSE button. The LED will remain red for two seconds before flashing again. This channel will then be deleted. After activating/deleting all desired infrared channels, hold down the P button once. The LED will stop flashing, and the channels will then be stored in the motor unit s memory. Step 3: Initiating the programming mode Using the open/close buttons on the IR transmitter, position the overlap carrier within at least 12 in. (305mm) of movement in both directions. Hold down the P button until the LED flashes red (about eight seconds), then release the button. Note the direction the system jogs when entering the programming mode. If the system jogs toward the stack, hold down the open button, and proceed to step 4A below. If the system jogs away from the stack, press the close button, and proceed to step 4B on page 10. Note: If the opposite button is initially held down, exit the programming mode by tapping the P button once. The system will jog. Tap the P button again. The system will jog and exit the programming mode. Repeat step 3 above. Step 4: Setting the drapery positions A. Setting the open then closed positions A1. Hold down the open button to move the drapery to the desired open position. Tap the P button once to record the open position. The drapery will jog toward the closed position. If intermediate positions are desired, continue to step A2. If no intermediate positions are desired, continue to step A3 below. A2. There are five intermediate stop positions available. They are the roman numerals I through V on the IR transmitter. Hold down the close button, and move the drapery toward the closed position. Release the button at the first desired intermediate stop. Hold down roman numeral I to record the first intermediate stop. If additional stops are required, repeat this step for the remaining positions. When all intermediate stops have been recorded, proceed to step A3 below. A3. Holding down the close button, move the drapery to the desired closed position. Tap the P button once to record the closed position. The drapery will jog toward the open position and exit the programming mode. 9

B. Setting the closed then open positions B1. Holding down the close button, move the drapery to the desired closed position. Tap the P button once to record the closed position. The drapery will jog toward open. If intermediate positions are desired, continue to step B2 below. If no intermediate positions are desired, continue to step B3 below. B2. Five intermediate stop positions are available. They are roman numerals I through V on the IR transmitter. Holding down the open button, move the drapery toward the open position. Release the button at the first desired intermediate stop. Hold down roman numeral I to record the first intermediate stop. If additional stops are required, repeat this step for the remaining positions. When all intermediate stops have been recorded, proceed to step B3 below. B3. Holding down the open button, move the drapery to the desired open position. Tap the P button once to record the open position. The drapery will jog toward the closed position and exit the programming mode. The open and closed limits have been programmed, and the WhisperTrac system is ready for use. In the event of power loss, the positions in the motor unit will be maintained. If the system/carrier is moved without power supplied during a power cut, the system will lose its references, and the system positions will need to be reprogrammed. Setting the drapery positions with the twobutton limit-setting paddle switch (no intermediate positions) Step 1: Preparing the system to determine the drapery positions Remove all RJ45 plugs from underneath the motor unit, and connect the switch to free port 1 or 2 in the motor unit. The 24V transformer plug must be plugged in to supply the motor. Using the open/close buttons, position the overlap carrier with at least 12 in. (305mm) of movement in both directions. Step 2: Initiating the programming mode Hold down both buttons. Then release both buttons when the LED on the underside of the motor unit flashes red (about eight seconds). The system will jog in both directions to confirm entry into the programming mode. Note: In the next step, decide which of the two buttons will subsequently carry out the Close function. This can be changed at any time. Step 3: Setting the closed position Determine which button will be used for closing the drapery. Holding down the close button, move the drapery to the desired closed position. Tap either button to make small adjustments to the position. Step 4: Confirming the closed position Hold down both buttons. The system will jog in the open direction to confirm the closed position. Step 5: Setting the open position Holding down the open button, move the drapery to the desired open position. Tap either button to make small adjustments to the position. Step 6: Confirming the open position Hold down both buttons. The system will jog in the close direction to confirm the open position and exit the programming mode. The open and close limits have been programmed, and the WhisperTrac system is ready for use. In the event of power loss, the positions in the motor unit will be maintained. If the system/carrier is moved without power supplied during a power cut, the system will lose its references, and the system positions will need to be reprogrammed. Changing the button functions for opening and closing Repeat steps 1 to 6 above for Setting the drapery positions with the two-button limit-setting switch, and select the switch buttons in reverse order. 10

Section 4: Operation Opening and closing with an infrared (IR) transmitter Select group A, B, or C. Then hold down either open or close on the desired channel 1 through 5. Momentary operation: Hold down a button (more than 2 seconds) on the selected channel until the desired position is reached, then release. Maintained operation: Hold down and release a button (no more than one second) on the selected channel. The system will run until an end position is reached. To stop prior to an end position, hold down and release a button on the same channel. Moving to an intermediate position with the infrared (IR) transmitter Select intermediate position I, II, III, IV, or V. This selection will remain active for three seconds. Select open or close on the desired channel. The system will move to the programmed position. Opening and closing with a two-button paddle switch Momentary operation: Hold down a button (more than 2 seconds) until the desired position is reached, then release. Maintained operation: Hold down and release a button (no more than one second). The system will run until an end position is reached. To stop prior to an end position, hold down and release a button. The 24-hour memory timer on a single system (setting with an IR transmitter) The timer remembers the time when the system was operating and automatically repeats the command after 24 hours. This is a relative timer; absolute time cannot be directly programmed. An opening and a closing time can be set for this system. SET button for setting and operating the time An infrared (IR) receiver and transmitter are required to access this function. The motor will automatically leave the timer mode after the three seconds. Example: For draperies to open everyday at 8:30 a.m. (08:30). Press the SET button at 8:30 a.m. (08:30). Within three seconds, hold down the OPEN button on the selected channel. The drapery will open every morning at 8:30 a.m. (08:30). It is not possible to set an absolute time in the motor unit by using this timer function. Example: For draperies to close everyday at 6:45 p.m. (18:45). Press the SET button at 6:45 p.m. (18:45). Within three seconds, hold down the CLOSE button on the selected channel. The draperies will close everyday at 6:45 p.m. (or for 18:45). The LED on the lower side of the motor unit will flash green every five seconds, after the timer has been set for OPEN or CLOSE. This signals that there is an active timer in the motor unit. Removing or resetting the timer function Briefly hold down the RESET button. The LED on the motor unit will no longer light up. The timer function has been removed from this system. Both opening and closing times can be reset using the RESET button. If there are other motor units in the vicinity with an active timer with their own infrared (IR) receiver, its timer settings may be unintentionally deleted. 11

The 24-hour timer with linked systems (set with an [IR] transmitter) Because multiple motors can be set to respond to the same infrared (IR) channel, the timer can also operate several systems. Every 24 hours, the motor unit will send an OPEN or CLOSE command from the selected channel on the transmitter to the other units. The options below illustrate which motors will respond to the timer. An active timer on the motor with an IR receiver, which is set to channel A1: IR A1 + A4 IR A2 + A4 IR A3 + A4 Infrared eye An active timer on the motor with an IR receiver, which is set to channel A4: IR A1 + A4 IR A2 + A4 IR A3 + A4 Infrared eye An active timer on the motor with an IR receiver, which is set to channel B3: IR A1 + B2 + B3 IR A2 + B2 + B3 IR A3 + B2 IR A4 + B2 IR A5 + B2 + B3 IR B1 + B2 + B3 12

Section 5: General Re-assembling a spliced track 1. Unfold and remove the packaging. 2. The connecting bridge will be secured to one end of the track. Using the Allen key provided, loosen (but do not remove) the set screws so that the bridge can slide between track segments. 6. Connect the overlap carriers with the beltconnection plate. On Ripplefold tracks, place the lead spacer-cord underneath the screw hole to capture the Ripplefold cord when assembled. Then insert the plate into the plastic master carriers. Before finally assembling the track, remove any extra Ripplefold carriers or roller carriers. 3. Move the overlap carriers together. CAUTION: Carriers will separate from the belt if moved in the wrong direction. 7. Screw the overlap arm to the master plate. 4. Important: Lay the track down on a flat, hard surface such as the floor and position the splice carefully so that it creates a precise and smooth joint between the two pieces of track. Now the completed track is ready for installation. 5. Connect the overlap to the other track. Insert the bridge into the connecting track, and center it over the splice. Tighten the set screws until snug. 13

When the system does not move at all, check and assure that: the power supply is still present. the switch is not defective. the plug is correctly inserted into the motor unit. the batteries of the infrared (IR) transmitter are charged. the IR receiver is plugged in. if the LED in the motor rapidly flashes red, there is a control failure, and the system must be programmed. (See Section 3 on pages 9 and 10.) if the system is interconnected with other systems, check the bus cables. 2. When the system does not respond to short pulses but responds to the continuous operation and the LED in the motor unit rapidly flashes red: this means that a control failure has occurred. The system needs to be programmed. (See Section 3 on pages 9 and 10.) 3. When the system only moves for five seconds and the LED in the motor unit rapidly flashes red: this means that a control failure has occurred. The system needs to be programmed. (See Section 4 on page 11.) 4. When the system is interconnected and only the systems switch or the IR receiver responds: make sure that the LED in the motor unit responds by lighting up red. If it does not, the bus cable is defective. 5. When the system is connected to a homeautomation system and has stopped functioning: make sure that the system will function with a standard switch or IR receiver. If it does not, see failure 1, 2, or 3 on this page.
