3 1 Important information The instructions for use contain all required information for a fast commissioning and a safe operation of the SCHMIDT Flow Sensors with Profibus Interface: These instructions for use must be read completely and observed carefully, before putting the unit into operation. Any claims under the manufacturer's liability for damage resulting from non-observance or non-compliance with these instructions will become void. Tampering with the device in any way whatsoever - with the exception of the designated use and the operations described in these instructions for use - will forfeit any warranty and exclude any liability. The unit is designed exclusively for the use described below (see chapter 2). In particular, it is not designed for direct or indirect personal protection. SCHMIDT Technology cannot give any warranty as to its suitability for a certain purpose and cannot be held liable for accidental or sequential damage in connection with the delivery, performance or use of this unit. 4 2 Intended use The field bus module is used for the communication and configuration of Schmidt flow sensor via PROFIBUS. In addition to the flow velocity, the volume flow can also be output. Threshold values for monitoring can be configured. 3 Electrical connection!! Make sure, there is no voltage during electrical installation and inadvertent activation is not possible. The electrical connection must be carried out by trained and qualified personnel. Therefore the device can be supplied with power (24V CC 20%) via the field bus module or via the sensor plug.! Do not connect the power supply to the field bus module and to the sensor at the same time. Instructions for use PROFIBUS Interface Page 5

7 User address The user address is set by means of two decimal rotary switches. Possible addresses are between 1 and 99, each address in the system may occur only once. Terminal resistor If the field bus module is integrated as end device, the terminal resistor integrated in the device must be activated. This is done by means of two slide switches. 4 Signalizations LED A DUO LED supplies information about the status of the sensor and the network. LED state Status Description Off Not connected No power supply Yellow Pre-operational The DP slave is ready. However, no cyclic data exchange is carried out with this DP slave at the moment. Green Data Exchange Mode The device works under normal conditions and is online. Data is exchanged cyclically with this DP slave. Red Alarm message of the flow sensor The message is active for at least 2.5 seconds. These organization modules must be considered and evaluated during the project planning in order to avoid that the CPU changes to the operating state STOP as soon as a warning or error message of the field bus module occurs. 9 5 Startup To integrate the SCHMIDT flow sensor via PROFIBUS module into the process control, a CD with an EDS file (SS2a093D.eds) is included in the delivery. The field bus module supports the device classes 1 and 2. After receipt of the configuration and parameter data, the module changes into the "Standard operation mode" (cyclic data exchange (data exchange to PROFIBUS DP-V0). Data exchange in the standard operation mode In the standard operation mode, the flow velocity or the volume flow and, as an option, another byte with limit value, alarm and warning flags is transmitted to the master upon request as 32 bit value. The volume flow and the flow velocity are transmitted in 1/100 of the selected unit (parameter unit selector). Bit no. 10 Parameterization The manufacturer-specific parameters can be set. The 32-bit parameters are divided into two 16-bit parameters (lo contains the bits 0-15, hi the bits 16-31). 11 Diagnosis messages On demand the diagnostic data are transmitted from the field bus module to the master. In the operating mode Class 1, the number of diagnostic bytes is 16. In the operating mode Class 2, additional information is available and the total number of diagnostic bytes is 51. The diagnostic data in the octets 1 to 6 correspond to the Profibus standard. From octet 7 on, device-specific diagnostic information is available.
