With the RAPTOR, you have purchased a high-quality, longlasting and effective device. Before initial operation, please carefully read through all of the directions and pay special attention to the safety guidelines. SAFETY GUIDELINES Caution, high VOLUME (up to 125dB), use appropriate hearing protection and avoid exposure to the direct line of sound! The warnings that refer to the high volume should be used. Follow the local rules and regulations regarding noise. Use the device only in outdoor areas. Any necessary repairs should be carried out only by qualified repair shops. The RAPTOR should be disconnected from the power source before doing maintenance work and making adjustments. The device should not be used in areas inhabited by persons or livestock. Do not use or turn on damaged devices. Only use with original accessories and original special accessories. The device should be used only with a completely functional 12V battery. Place this battery in a leak-proof container with a cover to protect from rain. The device should not be connected to a charger. The playback of animal sounds can attract animals (e.g., birds of prey). In most cases, this is advantageous. However, if this is not desired (e.g., in airports), please have the sound chip exchanged. APPLICATION AREAS The RAPTOR bird control devices are intended to protect agricultural and industrial areas from excessive numbers of birds and wild animals. These can significantly reduce damage to the harvest. The devices should be installed an adequate distance from residential areas
By following the below-listed Low-noise recommendations, the RAPTOR is only partially heard by humans. The sounds from the device blend into the sounds of the surrounding environment. Table: Low-noise recommendations : please maintain the following minimum distances from residential areas. R31 R32 R35 R2 R56 R56remote RAPTOR without noise barrier In the direction of the speaker 100m 1800m 100m 2500m 2500m 1000m * From the sides 350m 300m 500m 50m 600m 300m * From the back 350m 300m 50m With noise barrier -8dB In the direction of the speaker 100m 1800m 100m 2500m 2500m 1000m * From the sides 10m 130m 200m 180m 250m 100m * From the back 10m 130m 180m * with requirement-oriented activation Please be advised that the RAPTOR has been designed for outdoor use. Due to the loud volume, indoor use is possible only in rare instances. RANGE Please be aware that the effect on animals and the actual range of the device is dependent on many external factors, for example application areas, food supply and demand, location, season, etc. In certain circumstances (e.g., high concentration of birds or animals that have resided in the area for a long time) use of the device alone may not be sufficient to solve the problem. In this case, we recommend accompanying measures. It is important that the animals associate the sounds with real threats. These accompanying measures can be ended after a certain amount of time. If multiple RAPTORs are used in one area, the effect is multiplied many times over. Between two devices, animals can no longer concentrate on a single threat due to the spatial distribution and different timing of the sounds. To obtain maximum effectiveness the devices can be installed along the edge of the area to be protected. More information here: PRODUCT DESCRIPTION 1.. Loudspeaker 2.. Electronic unit Interval regulator.. Light sensor
INSTALLATION Install the device with screws in an appropriately anchored wooden pole. TOP The height should correspond to the requirements and specific model. Generally, the following rule applies: The higher the speaker the further the range, although the higher the speaker is mounted the more difficult noise control becomes. If the speaker is installed more than 2m high, reaching the interval controller is more difficult. Consider also the centre of gravity of the speaker and the wind load. Use the provided holes in the steel frame of the RAPTOR or the mounting clamp included in the delivery. Direct the loudspeaker a bit downwards in order to prevent the collection of rainwater. The mounting plate / mounting pipe must be vertical, which means that the interval controller and cable entry points must point down. LOUDSPEAKER DIRECTIONALITY RAPTOR RAPTOR The RAPTOR loudspeakers have a high degree of directionality. Therefore, a very specific area can be targeted. The volume from the sides and back of the speakers is much lower than from the front of the speakers. The speakers should not be pointed in the direction of a residential area. For more information see the low noise recommendations. With the R35 and R56 the angle between the two speakers can be as wide or narrow as desired. OPERATION The RAPTOR requires a standard 12V battery (e.g., a car battery) that can be recharged with a standard charger. The battery should be placed in a leak-proof container with a cover to protect it from rain. CAUTION: Disconnect the RAPTOR when recharging the battery! SELF-TEST After connecting the battery, the device checks the voltage and light conditions. It clearly communicates, e.g.: Batterie ok, Licht ok everything ok, Batterie leer, kein Licht Battery under 10V, Light sensor senses night operation Daylight mode begins with sufficient light. The eight available sounds automatically and randomly rotate. The interval between the sounds also randomly varies (approx.. +/- 20%) in order to prevent acclimatisation. (R31-6: only 6 Sounds, no random interval) - -
INTERVAL CONTROLLER The interval can be set using the dial on the underside of the device. Standard setting: minutes. If longer intervals are desired, the settings can be increased by a factor of four (switch 1 in casing). The interval should always be set to fit the actual needs and conditions, and should not be set with unnecessarily short intervals. The longest possible interval should be used to prevent acclimatisation and to improve noise control and battery life. SETTINGS IN CASING Open the casing with an appropriate screwdriver. Before this, disconnect the device from the power source. When closing, pay attention that the seals are properly situated Light sensor 5.. Switch panel 6.. Volume control 6 5 SWITCH PANEL Switch 1 corresponds with the interval factor Switch 2 corresponds with the HP filter. Switch 3 and are only for special software Switch 5 and 6 are for starting time settings SWITCH 1: Interval factor To allow for longer intervals, the factor can be set. Switch 1 down: Factor 1 factory setting Switch 1 up: Factor Interval as indicated on dial ( minutes) Interval = Dial x ( 3-30 minutes) min 1min 30min 3min Range: from 1 to 8 minutes Adjustment dial range: 3 to 30 minutes (Factor 1) (Factor, dial values multiplied by ) - 5 -
SWITCH 2: HP FILTER The RAPTOR has a high-pass filter to filter out low frequencies. Switch 2 down: Deep/Low tones are decreased to improve noise control. High tones and the most of the repellent effect are maintained. Choose this setting in places close to towns or residential areas before reducing the volume. HP Filter switch 2 Switch 2 up: Setting (HP Filter inactive) Maximal volume for all frequencies near Town norm. SWITCH 5, 6: NIGHT-AND-DAY REGULATION NOTE: The standard software provides four modes for the start time (see following section). If you decide to use special software, please refer to the corresponding operating manual. The RAPTOR automatically turns on in the morning and the start time is adjustable ( modes): Start at sunrise Start appr. 6:15 Start appr. 7:00 Start appr. 7:5 In the evenings the RAPTOR shuts off automatically at sunset. The integrated clock uses daylight to reliably set itself. These starting times are optimized for Central European Summer Time. If the programmed start time is before sunrise, the RAPTOR will start at sunrise. Accuracy: Usually +/-10min (+ constant location-dependent shift possible) For special software, use the correlating operating guide. VOLUME CONTROL Manually control the volume to fit your needs either by hand or with a small screwdriver. (Factory setting: maximum volume). Please note that a reduction of volume (turning the dial counter-clockwise) results in reduced repellent effect. Therefore, all other possibilities for noise control should be tried (e.g., noise-control barriers, long interval, HP filter) before the volume is turned down. NOISE CONTROL For best possible noise control: - The device should activate only as often as necessary (no unnecessarily short interval). - The loudspeaker should not be pointed in the direction of a residential area. - The minimal distances (Low-noise recommendations) should be maintained
- If possible, the RAPTOR should be positioned so that noise-blocking elements (e.g., plants) stand in the direct line between the device and the residential area. - If necessary, a noise-protection barrier (e.g., out of hay bales) can be built. - If these options are not sufficient, the HP filter can be activated or the volume reduced. For more information: TECHNICAL DATA The RAPTOR is splash-proof and protected from battery polarity reversal. POWER SUPPLY Operate the device using only a 12V battery (Red = +, Black = -). Any 12V battery (car battery) can be used (with at least 36 Ah). The device should not be operated connected to a charger! This can lead to irreparable damage. Power consumption (dependent on interval and duration of operation) R31/R32 R35 R2 R56 Interval in summer 1 min 1, 2,9 2,7,2 Ah/d 15 hr daylight operation 3 min 0,6 1,2 1,1 1,7 Ah/d 10 min 0,3 0,5 0, 0,6 Ah/d 30 min 0,2 0,2 0,2 0,3 Ah/d Interval winter 1 min 0,8 1,6 1,5 2,3 Ah/d 8 hr daylight operation 3 min 0, 0,7 0,6 0,9 Ah/d 10 min 0,2 0,3 0,3 0, Ah/d 30 min 0,1 0,2 0,2 0,2 Ah/d Operating life of the battery (days) = Battery capacity (Ah) / Power consumption (AH/d) Ex: 63Ah battery, R2, 3 minutes (Summer) 63 Ah / 1.1 Ah/d = 57 days operating life DEEP DISCHARGE PROTECTION If the battery is low (8 to 11V), an energy-saving mode is activated, which means that the device automatically increases the interval to conserve the battery. Additionally, in the self-test and after every alarm the device displays: Battery low
TEMPERATURE RANGE -10 to +50 degrees Celsius Volume: R31, R32, R35: average 116dB, max. 120dB R2, R56: average 121dB, max. 125dB TROUBLESHOOTING Here is a list of common operational problems: The RAPTOR speaks Batterie ok - kein Licht, but does not emit sounds: Possible causes: The light supply is not sufficient. Be aware that the RAPTOR is designed for outdoor, open spaces and requires a strong light source in buildings or halls. Outdoors, at dawn or dusk, as well as on very foggy days, the light supply can also be insufficient. The light sensor is covered. Remove dirt, leaves, etc., from the opening of the light sensor. The light sensor in the body of the device has shifted. RAPTOR does not react at all when connected to the battery: Possible causes: The battery is completely dead (under 8V) or the contact is insufficient. The battery has been improperly connected. Change the polarity (The RAPTOR is protected from battery polarity reversal, so the device cannot be damaged in this way.) MAINTENANCE The device needs only little maintenance work: - Checking that the loudspeaker cone cannot fill with rainwater. - Checking that the light sensor is not dirty or covered and it s window is intact. - Oiling the battery terminals with battery grease to prevent corrosion. - Checking the contact with the battery. - Regularly checking of all mounting elements and Gaskets and checking the device for damage (eg: Plastic parts, cables, corrosion of contacts or conductor board) WARRANTY Please read the valid guarantee and warranty conditions in the General Terms and Conditions. These can be found on our homepage at: If needed, we can instead send these to you. Warning: Please do not attempt to repair the device yourself and do not allow a non-authorised person to attempt to repair the RAPTOR. This leads to a forfeiture of the guarantee. Ing.
