INTRODUCTION ORDER OF INSTALLATION i. PC-LC2 Windows Installation ii. iii. iv. Install PC-LC2 card into computer Install PC-LC2 console software Install The Reporter TM software 1
i. PC-LC2 Windows Installation: (1 Card, COM 3 & COM 4) Before you begin, please make sure you have the Windows cd available. NOTE: If you already have Windows on your hard drive, it is NOT necessary to re-install. 1. POWER THE SYSTEM; Boot the Windows Operating System 2. Go to "START" 3. Go to "SETTINGS" 4. Go to "CONTROL PANEL" 5. Double-click on "ADD NEW HARDWARE" 6. The system shows the "ADD NEW HARDWARE WIZARD" dialogue box. Click on "NEXT" 7. The system shows an "ADD NEW HARDWARE WIZARD" dialogue box, and informs you that Windows will search for Plug n' Play devices on your system. Click on "NEXT" 8. When the system does not detect any Plug n' Play devices, you will be prompted/asked if Windows should search for the new hardware to install. Select "NO" and click on "NEXT" 9. A list will appear where you can select the type of hardware device that is to be installed on the system. Select Ports (COM & LPT) then press NEXT. 10. You are then prompted to select the Manufacturer and Model of the port to install. Select STANDARD PORT TYPES then choose COMMUNICATION PORT. Press NEXT. 2
11. A window will be displayed showing the Input/Output Range and Interrupt Request for the new port to be installed. These values will later be changed to the settings needed by the PCLC2 card. For now, Insert your WINDOWS CD and press NEXT to install the new COM port. 12. Once the COM port has been successfully installed, windows will inform you that it is finished installing the software for your hardware device. Press FINISH 13. After you press finish, a popup message will be displayed by windows informing you that you must shutdown the computer, install the card and power the system back up again for your newly installed COM port to work properly. Press NO 14. At this point, we have only installed one COM port. Each PCLC2 card has two channels on the board; channel A and Channel B. Each one of these channels requires a COM port to be installed. Now that we have successfully installed a COM port for Channel A, we must now install another COM port for Channel B. To do this, repeat steps #2 to #13. If you are installing more than one PC-LC2 card continue until all required COM ports are loaded. When all ports are added - restart the computer. 15. Now that we have installed two COM ports, we need to configure these COM ports to match the settings of the PCLC2 card. To do this, Go to START 16. Go to Settings 17. Go to Control Panel 18. Double-click on System 19. Select the Device Manager tab 3
20. Here you will see a list of devices currently installed on your computer. In this list; Double click the Ports (COM & LPT). Go to "START". Verify the port(s) were installed successfully. NOTE:There should NOT be a yellow circle with an exclamation mark. If there is, click on it once, then press "REMOVE". Repeat steps 2 through Here there will be four COM ports listed; Communications Port (COM1) Communications Port (COM2) Communications Port (COM3) Communications Port (COM4) The PCLC2 Card does not use COM1 and COM2 as a Mouse and/or Modem typically uses these ports. The first COM port that we installed in the above procedure is Communications Port (COM3). Double-click on COM Select the Port Settings tab. 23. Here you will see 6 configuration options: 1. (standard setting) 2. Bits Per Second: Data Bits: 8 4. Parity: none 5. Stop Bits: 1 6. Flow Control: Xon/Xoff The PCLC2 needs the configuration to be: (what NEEDS to appear on your screen) Bits Per Second: 9600 Data Bits: 8 Parity: none Stop Bits: 1 Flow Control: none To change the settings to what the PCLC2 Card needs: Click on the arrow beside the Flow Control setting, and select none. 4
24. Now select the Resources tab. 25. Remove check mark from "Use Automatic Settings" box. 26. Now you will need to set the basic configuration. Click on Setting Based on Basic Configuration 27. Select the "Basic Conifguration" setting in the pull-down menu. 28. Here you will see two configuration settings; Input/Output Range and Interrupt Request. First, we need to change the Input/Output Range so that it matches what the PCLC2 Card needs. Using the table below, we will decide what value we need the Input/Output Range option set to. To change the Input/Output Range, double-click on Input/Output Range. 29. A window will popup showing what the Input/Output Range is currently set to. Change this value to the first range listed in Table 1 by using the Up/Down arrows beside the option. Once the proper range is selected, press OK. NOTE: This is the address range required for the PC-LC2 setup. Table1: INPUT/OUTPUT Ranges 03E8-03EF 02E8-02EF F F F 30. If the I/O Range you entered is not being used by another device, you will be returned to the original window and the Input/Output Range setting will reflect your changes. If the I/O Range you entered is being used by another device, a Conflict Warning message will be displayed informing you that the I/O Range is being used. You must try the next range in the table to avoid causing problems. If you get the Conflict Warning message, Press No, and repeat steps #24 to #27 using the next Input/Output Range listed in the table until you find one that works. 5
31. In the spaces provided below, you will need to write down the Input/Output Range and Interrupt Request that you have selected. These settings must also be selected on the PCLC2 Card itself. Note the settings in the space provided below. You will need this information later on in the installation process. Once you have written these down, press Ok. a. Input/Output Range: Interrupt Request: b. Input/Output Range: Interrupt Request: c. Input/Output Range: Interrupt Request: d. Input/Output Range: Interrupt Request: e. Input/Output Range: Interrupt Request: f. Input/Output Range: Interrupt Request: g. Input/Output Range: Interrupt Request: h. Input/Output Range: Interrupt Request: 32. Next we will change the Interrupt Request option. To do this, double-click on Interrupt Request. 6
33. A window will popup showing what the Interrupt Request is currently set to. Change this value by using the Up/Down arrows beside the option. The same IRQ can be shared on different PC-LC2 cards. You will notice as you change the option, that the writing in the window below the option you are changing will change depending on what Interrupt Request you currently have selected. This tells you if the Interrupt Request you currently have selected is being used already or not. 34. Continue scrolling the Interrupt Request values until you find one that has the message No Devices Are Conflicting written in the Window. This way you know you have selected a free Interrupt Request andthere will be no problems with your hardware. Once you have found a free Interrupt Request, press Ok. 35. Because you have made changes to the COM port configuration, you will be confronted with a System Settings Change message from windows. Once you have finished configuring your second COM port, then we will shutdown so we can install the PCLC2 Cards. Until then, Select No. Repeat this process for the installation of additional PC-LC2 line cards. 36. You have now successfully configured a COM port to work properly with your PCLC2 Channel A. Again as before, we must now also configure the other COM port you installed to work properly with your PCLC2 Channel B. To do this, repeat steps #20 to #32 but with Communications Port (COM4) this time. 37. Once you have configured the two COM ports, press Close. 38. A System Settings Change window will appear, asking if you wish to restart your computer. Press No. We need to shutdown your computer so we can install the PCLC2 Cards inside. 39. Go to START 40. Go to Shutdown 7
41. Select Shutdown 42. We have now installed two COM ports for your PCLC2 Card. Repeat this process for Channel B on the PCLC2-P. This must be repeated for each line available (to a maximum of 4 PCLC2 line cards, 8 lines in total). We must now setup the jumpers on the PCLC2 card then install it within the computer. 8
9ABCDEF ABCDEF ii. PCLC2 Hardware Installation: (1 Card) There are 3 things that must be set on each PCLC2 card before the PC is powered up. 1. Rotary switch on PCLC2 card must be set. This Rotary switch selects the line number for each channel. Eg. If the rotary switch is set to 1, then channel A will be line number 2 and channel B will be line number 3 There are two different configurations for the rotary switch. If the rotary switch is set to 0 that PCLC2 card will be the MASTER card (the card that will talk to the outside world Automation/Printer). All other cards will be seen as SLAVE cards (rotary positions 1, 2 and 3) and their computer and printer messages will be directed to the Master card (via the PBUS) where the Master card will direct this alarm traffic out the correct output device. NOTE: There can only be one Master card inside a PC. Eg. If you have four PCLC2 cards in your PC, one will be the Master card, and all other cards will be Slave cards. When setting the Rotary switch on the Card, ensure no two cards have the same switch setting, as this will cause problems with the Printer/Computer output for the cards with the same number. Using a slot screwdriver, turn the rotary switch clock-wise to select "0" Master or "1-3" Slave cards. Rotary switch located here Jumper Jumper 2. The Input/Output Range for each channel must also be setup. a) First we will setup the Input/Output Range for Channel A, using the settings you wrote down on paper. Find the jumper number in the table below that corresponds to the first Input/Output Range you have written down. Table 2: JUMPER Input/Output Range 1 03E8-03EF 2 02E8-02EF F F F Once you have found the correct I/O Range, we will need to place a jumper across the corresponding number to have the PCLC2 card using the proper I/O Range. 9
Figure 1 b) To change the Input/Output Range setting for the card, locate the jumper set labeled COM. On the left-hand side of the jumper connectors, they are labeled with numbers 1-8. The right hand side is for Channel A and the left hand side is for Channel B the center row is common. To select an Input/Output Range, simply place a jumper across the two pins of either the right hand side or the left hand side of the jumper connector. (see Figure 1) To select Input/Output Range for Channel A, place a jumper across the 2 pins beside the corresponding number found from Table 2 (above) To select Input/Output Range for Channel B, place a jumper across the 2 pins beside the corresponding number found from Table 2 (above) A B 10
Example: If Communication Port (COM3) has been setup in windows for Input/Output Range : 03E8-03EF. And Communication Port (COM4) has been setup in windows for Input/Output Range : 02E8-02EF. Using Table1 (above) we would need to place a jumper across pins #1 and #2. (see Figure 2). Figure 2: Channel A = 03E8-03EF Channel B = 02E8-02EF B 3. Lastly, the Interrupt Request for each channel must be setup. a) Using the settings you wrote down on paper, locate the jumper set labeled IRQ. On the right-hand side of the jumper connectors, they are labeled with numbers 3,4,5,7,9,10,11,12,15. This corresponds to the Interrupt Request number you selected in windows. The IRQ number on the board must coincide with the IRQ in Windows in order for serial communication to work properly. Each channel s IRQ is configured via this jumper connector. The right hand side is for Channel A and the left hand side is for Channel B. To select an IRQ, simply place a jumper across the two pins of either the right hand side or the left hand side of the jumper connector. (see Figure 3) Figure 3 To select IRQ for Channel A, place a jumper across the 2 pins beside the desired IRQ number A To select IRQ for Channel B, place a jumper across the 2 pins beside the desired IRQ number A B 11
Example: If Communication Port (COM3) has been setup in windows for Interrupt Request : 05. And Communication Port (COM4) has been setup in windows for Interrupt Request : 07. We would place a jumper across Pin #5 for Channel A and Pin#7 for Channel B (see Figure 4). Figure 4 Channel A = IRQ5 Channel B = IRQ7 B A 4. Repeat steps #1 to #3 for each PCLC2 card to be placed into the PC. 5. You have now successfully setup the PCLC2 card jumper settings to match those you selected in windows. Your card will now be able to talk properly to windows. 6. Now we must install the card in the PC. 7. Power down the system. Ensure all power is turned off to the PC. Remove power cable. 8. Remove cover from PC, and ensure proper grounding before installation of the cards to ensure no static damage. 9. Find an empty ISA slot and remove Slot Cover from back of PC case. 10. Firmly place PCLC2 card in ISA slot, and ensure card is not touching adjacent cards. 11. Secure the card by using a screw to hold the bracket firmly in place. 12. If more than one card is to be installed, repeat steps #8 to #10 for each card. 13. Once all cards have been installed, replace PC cover. 14. Connect Printer to the Master PCLC2 card. 15. Perform a cold boot. 16. Power Up System. 17. Installation of your PC Receiver System is complete. 18. Insert the cd-rom that came with this package, and load the PC-LC2 console software. 12
iii. PCLC2 Console Setup: 1. Double click on the PCLC2 Console Icon on your desktop. 2. Enter Cafeteria in the password window to enter the PCLC2 Console. 3. Once inside, Click on the Configure Button. 4. Once you click on the Configure button, a dialogue window will pop-up. 5. Using the COMPORT settings you wrote down in the PCLC2 Installation section, click on the arrow beside Master Card COM Port and select the COM Port number that you have set for Channel A on your master PCLC2 Card (Setting this will allow the PCLC2 Console to communicate to the Master Card). 6. Under the heading COM Port Settings click on the Base Settings Tab. 7. The settings listed here should be: Baud Rate: 9600 Data Bits: 8 Parity: None StopBits: 1 If the settings are not as listed above, then change them to match. Once done, press OK. 8. On the main screen, under the label PCLC2 Cards, you will see eight LED s. Each of these LED s represents one channel on a PCLC2 card. Right click on the first LED (furthest left). 9. A popup menu will appear with three choices: 1. Refresh 2. COM Select 3. Change Options Bring the mouse pointer down to the COM Select item. 10. Here another window will open showing a list of COM ports from 1 to 16. The first LED is for Channel A of the Master card. Scroll down in the list until you find the COM port which Channel A of the Master card is set to and click on it. 11. Next, right click on the second LED. The same popup menu will appear as in step #9. Bring the mouse pointer down to the COM Select item. 12. Scroll down in the list of COM ports until you find the one that Channel B of the Master card is set to and click on it. If there is more than one PC-LC2 card, repeat steps
13. Now, click on the Connect button, to enable communication between the PCLC2 Console and the Master card. 14. If the PCLC2 Console is setup correctly, you will see a pick outline around the first LED. This shows that the PCLC2 Console is connected to the Channel A of the Master PCLC2 card. 15. Finally, click the Refresh button. This will poll all available PCLC2 cards. 16. Next, wait approximately 30 seconds. If the PCLC2 Master card is setup properly, the first two LED s in the console should turn GREEN to indicate the card is working properly. 17. You have now finished setting up the PCLC2 Console software to work with your newly installed PCLC2 card. iv. Installation of The Reporter software 1.
