1 PEAK TM SMART Equipment Controllers Product bulletin The PEAK family of SMART Equipment Controllers comprises a group of versatile field controllers specifically designed for the HVAC/R market. The controller s communication can be switched between using MS/TP, Modbus, and N2 communications protocols in real time without any controller software downloads. With a simple configuration change through the local display or Mobile Access Portal (MAP) Gateway, the system protocol changes for valid communication. In MS/TP mode, they are BACnet Master-Slave/Token-Passing (MS/TP) network compliant field controllers designed to monitor, control, and integrate a wide variety of HVAC/R and other building equipment. In N2 mode, they can be used to maintain or modernize sites with installed legacy Johnson Controls controllers. In Modbus mode, the controller uses the Modbus RTU slave mode to communicate with any Modbus Master that is properly configured. This family of controllers includes the PEAK 18 and 32 controllers, PEAK Input/Output Module (IOM), which integrate into the web-based Metasys system or any other third-party BACnet system. By utilizing the equipment model technology, all PEAK Series controllers become part of Verasys system (future light commercial system for Johnson Controls). Note: The PEAK IOM modules are not capable, nor required, to work as N2 or Modbus devices as they communicate through the SA bus from a field controller. The PEAK Series models feature an advanced design that provides optimum performance and easy access to power, network, and field terminations. These controllers come with 32-bit microprocessors to meet and exceed demanding industry standards. Some PEAK models include an intuitive user interface with an integral LCD screen and a 4-button navigation touchpad that provides enhanced local monitoring of your controlled field equipment. The PEAK controller family integrates easily with the NS Series Network Sensors. A wide variety of network sensor models provides options for measuring and displaying zone temperature, duct temperature, zone humidity, carbon dioxide level, setpoint adjustments, fan speed control, and discharge air temperatures. The PEAK Series models also feature two dedicated device layer communication buses. Use the traditional Sensor Actuator bus for integrating IOM and any other ancillary released SA bus devices. The second bus is a dedicated Modbus RTU Master bus for any thirdparty Modbus device. These can include, for example, existing off the shelf compressors, variable frequency drives (VFD), sensors, and electronic expansion valves (EEV).

2 Features Configurable controller Eliminates the need for software or programming in the field. Factory commission and programmed. Only configuration of parameters in the field through local display or MAP. Large product family Provides a wide range of point mix to meet application requirements and allows for the addition of one or more IOMs and/or Network Sensors to provide even more I/O capacity. Standard software and application development Uses a common hardware design throughout the family line to support standardized wiring practices and installation workflows. Optional mobile interface Allow monitoring, servicing, and commissioning of the equipment through the MAP gateway, utilizing any smart mobile devices. Real-time switchable language A single application can support up to four languages on the onboard local display. Equipment model technology Provides a standardized and dynamic way to expose equipment information though user interfances and to the system level enabling plug and play support on future Verasys connectivity Predefined alarms and trends Based on the application all alarms and trends will be predefined within the controller. Real-time switchable communications protocols Communicates from BACnet MS/TP, N2, or Modbus through the onboard local display or Mobile Access Portal gateway. Standard BACnet Protocol BACnet Testing Laboratories (BTL) Listing Rev 12 provides interoperability with other Building Automation Systems (BAS) products that use the widely accepted BACnet standard. Standard Sensor Actuator (SA) bus Supports interconnection with smart end devices and extension modules minimizing wirings. Dedicated Modbus Integration bus Provides interoperability with other Modbus devices through the dedicated Modbus master port. 2

3 Integration into the Metasys System Supervisory Devices The PEAK family is designed to integrate seamlessly into any Network Automation Engine (NAE) or Network Control Engine (NCE). This seamless integration of field controllers with Metasys supervisory controllers enables building operators to monitor and adjust field controllers directly from the Metasys system UI. In addition, service personnel can view field controller information locally through the integral LCD or through an optional local controller display available for field controllers or through the MAP Gateway. PEAK Topology Integration to the third-party system The PEAK family is designed to integrate seamlessly into any third-party native BACnet system by utilizing BACnet standard methods of integration. Also, any Modbus system can be an option based on the integration methods for this protocol. In the case of Modbus, the PEAK controllers communicate in Modbus Slave mode to the third-party Modbus supervisory. Communications protocols By default, the PEAK family controllers, IOM modules, and network sensors communicate using the standard BACnet protocol, based on the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The BACnet protocol is a standard for ANSI, ASHRAE, and the International Standards Organization (ISO) for building controls. When the controllers are used as MS/TP devices, they are BACnet Advanced Application Controllers (B-AAC). IOM controllers are BTL-tested and listed as BACnet Application Specific Controllers (B-ASCs). PEAK 18 and 32 controllers are BTL-listed as BACnet Advanced Application Controllers (B-AACs) Revision 12. The NS Series Sensors are BTL-listed as BACnet Smart Sensors (B-SSs). Equipment model With the equipment model, customers can create their own user experience for their equipment and application. When the PEAK controllers are provisioned at the factory with the customized package, the onboard local display and the all mobile user experiences follow the customization without additional programming. The equipment model customization becomes part of the firmware download of the controller, which can be either factory commissioned or uploaded in the field through the onboard USB port. 3

4 Hardware and installation PEAK controllers are encased in a durable plastic housing. The plastic housing may eliminate the need for a separate enclosure for plenum-rated construction. Check specific controller documentation and regional, national, and local code requirements for appropriate applications. PEAK controllers feature bright, color-coded LEDs, visible on the controller cover, that indicate the supply power, communications bus, as well as a variety of fault conditions to aid troubleshooting the controller and bus. The field controllers feature removable, color-coded, keyed, and labeled terminal block plugs for the supply power and communications bus terminations. Most models have fixed, color-coded, and labeled terminal blocks or spade connectors for ease of factory mounting for the input and output terminations, which facilitate installing and servicing the controllers. On all PEAK controllers, and PEAK IOM Series Controllers, integral mounting clips and a DIN rail track on the controller back-plate allow you to easily mount the field controller either on a horizontal section of 35 mm DIN rail or directly to a wall or flat vertical surface. Some PEAK models have a backlit user interface display with four- button keypad for navigation. The easy-touse display provides convenient commissioning, local monitoring, and adjusting of key setpoints and control parameters. For the PEAK models without a display, MAP Gateway can be used connected to the SA bus and with utilizing any mobile smart devices provides you with commission, local monitoring, and configuration of any parameters within the controller.
